Portable Mixer with Impressive Features

The Allen & Heath ZED60-14FX adds four more channels and solid-feeling 60mm faders to their popular ZED-10FX mixer. It's great for guitarists — two of its eight mono channels boast high impedance input jacks that re-create the warmth and character of a classic tube preamp. The ZED60-14FX's responsive 3-band EQ design features A & H's MusiQ — a variable Q that makes optimizing each instrument's tone settings a breeze. You also get high-quality built-in digital effects, and stereo USB audio connectivity for capturing quick recordings. Complete with comprehensive monitoring and effective metering, you can't go wrong with the ZED60-14FX.

Guitar DIs deliver tube-like warmth and character

The ZED60-14FX is loaded with eight great-sounding mic preamps, based on Allen & Heath's MixWizard range of mixers. But the ZED60-14FX takes it a step further with the inclusion of high impedance input jacks on inputs 3 and 4. These inputs allow you to plug your guitar straight into the board without a DI box. And best of all, they impart a tube-like warmth and character that's guaranteed to add power and definition to your guitar tone. The guitarists here at Sweetwater appreciate the convenience and sound quality afforded by the ZED60-14FX's built-in DIs.

MusiQ provides fast, easy sound shaping

Dialing in each instrument's tone settings is easy with the ZED60-14FX. Its responsive three-band, swept mid-frequency EQ design employs Allen & Heath's innovative MusiQ, which is essentially a variable Q that automatically optimizes your EQ settings. Thanks to MusiQ, beginners can achieve musically pleasant EQ settings with the ZED60-14FX with little effort.

Flexible USB connectivity for Mac and PC

Getting audio in and out of your computer with the ZED60-14FX is a simple plug-and-play operation. Just plug in, select the USB routing on the mixer and your computer, and you're ready to pipe CD-quality audio into and out of your Mac or PC. The ZED60-14FX allows different signals to be sent to USB, from LR or from selected aux buses. The USB return signal can be routed straight to the LR mix or to a stereo channel.

Reviews

Best in class if sound quality is your priority
This is the second mixer in the ZED-FX series I have owned (I upgraded from the 10-channel model) and I have been more than pleased. The mic preamps are clear winners in this price range, the build quality is well above competing mixers. The mixer signal flow can be a bit obtuse and confusing so you will have to consult the manual for a while but once you're used to it, no problem at all. Rugged, great sound, and punches well above its price point.
Great board for a small band!
So I had one of these boards and then decided to "upgrade" to a digital board. I got rid of the digital board for reliability reasons. Then I went and bought another ZED60-14FX and have done many gigs with it and used it to run sound for many different band line-ups. When I went back to it, people commented that I got amazing sound that day compared to digital board. The EQ is outstanding and the pre-amps have very audible sound which is great for vocals. At one gig, I blew a tube on my guitar amp and had to go straight into one of the Hi-Z inputs from my guitar pedal board. Worked great. Keys sound awesome through the stereo channels, as does an MP3 player for in between sets. I've also run many acoustic guitars through the Hi-Z channels and they work perfectly. I have a couple complaints about this board. I would really like 2 more aux sends that are pre-fader. I would also like a 2-4 more channels. In a 2-guitar band, with 3 singers, mic-ing guitar amps and bass, that only leaves 2 channels for drums and if you are running an acoustic through the board as well, you're out of luck (maybe a stereo channel). The single aux send is a pain in the but because you only get one monitor mix and everybody gets the same one. I think my complaints could be fixed by getting a bigger board, but then I think you lose the Hi-Z channels that work great for acoustic. I have played probably 500 gigs with this board and the one I mistakenly sold previously and have never had a problem.

Near perfect compact mixer
Compact mixers.... I own this unit Zed6014fx, Zed10fx, Yamaha MG10xu, Yamaha MG06, Yamaha MG10/2, Yamaha AW16g, Tascam Model 24.Dj Mixers, Ecler Nuo2, Denon X1850, Soundcraft Urei 1600 w/ the sampler.

So used many small compact mixers and many dj mixers. Everything feels different. I was out shopping and came across a used AE-6FX and was taken back by how solid the feel of the mixer was but I was not in the market for another small mixer since I had recently picked up the Yamaha MG10XU but after going home and using the Yamaha I wanted an A&E mixer based on feel alone. The build quality is by far superior to the desktop mixers listed above with exeption to Yamaha 16G and the Dj mixers listed (totally different application). I purchased the AE Zed10fx and was happy with it until I helped a fried out with a Christmas party and we were using 4 live mics and both stereo inputs for a Dj mixer and a laptop audio input. The AEZed10 showed it weak points immediately and weak points in general for this line of mixers that extend beyond this format. The Zed10fx IMO is not suited for a live dynamic event, obvious no faders and adjusting multiple knobs fast does not work also no Mute buttons. I made a decision to level up and bought the Zed14fx that has faders and mute buttons that you can swipe channels and mute quickly. The quick winner for this mixer is the feel of the top mounted pots, the fast VU meter. Do I wish it had a compressor on a few channels... yes, but I will survive - the Yamaha has the single knob compressor but oh well. The unit's build is superior. My only true gripe is the channel width, the channels are very close = the pots vertically and horizontally are very close and you can find yourself pinching the knobs to make your adjustments meaning i/you may not be able to get your fingers around the pots unless you had a had full of pinky's. The Sliders on channels 1-12 & FX feel like they bump into the mute button if you go slide to the top, you don't have the same feel on the master faders as they are fluid. I want to give it a 4.85 but with the stars it will show a 4.5 The AE's are built like tanks for sure, Yamaha's are made all plastic and the pots wiggle, but they do last a lifetime no question when cared forso not a bad buy at all. I needed more channels, sliders and mute buttons so I am extremely happy with this purchase of the AE Zed60-14FX

Hope you dont have to Rack mount it
I just wanted to throw on a couple rack ears and mount it to a rack and I literally had to disassemble the entire board and remove the PSU board just to access 1 screw. Im not sure if a disassembly of this magnitude voids the warranty, but even if it doesnt, it turned a 20 minute job into an hour and a half job.

Didn’t Last 1 Year
Doesn't have that Allen & Heath sound I was hoping for. It failed in the middle of a gig. Not fun, switching out mixers in the middle of a show. I will not be replacing this with the same thing. I'm just hoping it will be covered under warranty.
