Striking Sound That Won't Fade

D’Addario’s XT strings are among the longest lasting we’ve used here at Sweetwater. Descended from the company's shuttered EXP strings line, XT strings leverage a thin, ultra-durable coating applied to the wrap wire before assembly. And we do mean thin — it feels akin to a regular uncoated string. XT strings employ D’Addario’s proprietary high-carbon NY Steel core and Fusion Twist technology, ensuring that they bend farther and stay in tune better — even under the duress of a live performance. XT strings also boast nickel-plated windings with enhanced magnetic properties for increased output and juiced midrange. You’ll appreciate the long life and present sound that you get out of D’Addario’s XT electric guitar strings.

The evolution of XT strings

During their lifespan, EXP strings enjoyed a loyal following here at Sweetwater. Now, EXP strings have leveled up to become XT acoustic guitar strings, the next evolution of D’Addario’s world-renowned treated strings. Each string receives a groundbreaking coating for twice the protection. And since the coating is so thin, each string rings out just as loudly and clearly as an uncoated string does. If you're a fan of EXP strings, then you will love D’Addario XT strings.

The right tone for everyone

D’Addario believes that every acoustic guitar player should have a set of strings that match their sonic needs. That’s why they build strings with a range of construction methods and materials. Whether you go with the brightest 80/20 Bronze strings, the mellowest Silk & Steels, or anywhere in between, D’Addario has the perfect sound for everyone. Want to learn more? Hex-core wounds, Fusion Twist steels

Inside each roundwound string in this lies an NY Steel hexagonal core — the same as you'll find on a set of your favorite NYXLs. This angular core gives the wrap wire more surface to grab on to, yielding better tone and intonation. Plain steels in this set also feature D'Addario's Fusion Twist technology. This process prevents slack in the twist, resulting in greater resistance against detuning and breaking.

D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

Reviews

D'Addario gives you options
If you know your gear as we all should, we should know what ought to sound the best based on the gear you have.

Based on the tone spectrum that D'Addario gives you regarding their strings, if you're familiar with your gear, you should get the items that best suits your tone.

Because the XT is on the more mellower tone spectrum than the others, I've put this on my PRS SE Custom 24 and the fact that the pickups on that guitar are brighter and yet the strings err on the side of more mellow tones, there is a balance that is offered and I for one appreciate this and yes, I do hear the difference and since I play with 9s, I can play with confidence and not squeeze the life out of the frets as I used to do with 10s.

The XT strings are definitely balanced, affords you the means to play all genres from pop and worship to funk and metal. With the extended life coating, it allows you to play a set longer than usual which is more competitive than other coated string guitars and D'Addario strings are cheaper than your usual coated guitar string brands!
A Stand Out
These strings are great. I've been using Elixir for many years to this point, but the unwound strings break too often for me nowadays. I've repaired potential burrs in saddles, tried new sets hoping for lemons and no luck.

I went on a search and landed on these. They're not as slick as Elixir, which I used to like, but they're fairly smooth and definitely sound brighter and punchier than the Elixir. There was an adjustment period for me, but if you're coming from the general uncoated string, I think it'll be fairly seamless while reaping the benefits. Also, I haven't broken a string yet. Good deal!

Tension on Elixir feels a little more stiff. These are probably just a little lighter I'd say, but not as light as Slinky - from what I feel at least.

They last, sound great, feel good and are durable.

They’re more stiff than the regular D’Addario strings
They don't feel as normal as stated. The steel cores give them a different feel. If you have uses XL's in the past, these will feel completely new. The corrosion didn't last any longer. These felt old in feel in a couple of days.
