My new favorite ride
I bought this 22" monarch on a whim. The price was unbeatable. Rock, jazz, fusion and whatever else you choose to play this cymbal will do the job! I also have the monarch hats, 18 monarch with rivets, and an 18 Apollo! Try some, you'll love them. As always, Norb takes care of whatever I'm looking for!!!
Music background: Drumming since 1965
Gorgeous Ride!
Dark, dry, light, crashable, and mellow. I love this cymbal so much. Light enough to crash and wobble, but the crash is mellow and quick to decay. Incredible stick definition that never washes out but still allows for lots of expressive yet controlled tonal variations. Very versatile, but not in a "jack of all trades" way. This is a very distinctive cymbal that needs a refined touch to sound its best. I use it for jazz, funk, indie rock, and acoustic music, but it sits in the mix rather than cutting through it. Probably not suited to very loud musical settings. For the price, it's an insanely good ride. Sabian has done a great deed making a cymbal of this musical caliber available at such a reasonable price. Most "budget" gear is for beginners and sounds like it, but I've been playing for 25 years and this ride is the truth. It's my main ride, accompanied by a 20" Bosphorus Masters on the left and 14" Dream Bliss hats. Fits right in and sounds incredible!

As a worship musician and session drummer, I constantly have to switch between musical styles. I absolutely love this affordable Sabian XSR Monarch ride cymbal. It gives me the kind of dark, dry, and washy sound that I can tuck into any mix. Even when I play hard, its volume stays tight and controlled, without taking anything away from its musical qualities. That's just what I need for playing in church acoustics.
