Play the Same Guitar Used by a Fretboard Legend!

The EVH Wolfgang solidbody electric guitar is built to deliver the goods on any stage; that should come as no surprise, given that the man behind this impressive axe not only designed it — he put it through its paces every night during Van Halen's last world tour! Built to Eddie Van Halen's exact specifications, the Wolfgang gives you absolutely awesome tone, practical playability and comfort, and the kind of stunning looks you'd expect from a world-class guitar. From its high-quality pickups, hardware, and controls to its gorgeous, top-notch tonewoods, the Wolfgang is made to rock in style!

Road tested by EVH himself

To say this guitar is "road tested" would definitely be an understatement! Wolfgang prototypes were put through a full year of brutal in-concert road testing by Eddie on Van Halen's triumphant 2007-2008 world tour. The result is a bulletproof and beautiful guitar that takes whatever you can dish out and then asks for more. As the VH tour roared along, Eddie changed and adjusted components and specs until he was satisfied with the Wolfgang's sound, feel and looks. To prove that it was battle-worthy and could survive the road, performance data was collected from every gig for months and months to establish and confirm consistency and durability.

Built to Eddie's exacting specifications

From its basswood body and 1/2-inch-thick maple top to its quartersawn maple neck and beautiful ebony fingerboard, the EVH Wolfgang just screams quality — and that's just the tonewoods! This gorgeous guitar is made for serious playing, with dual graphite reinforcement rods in the neck, a Floyd Rose #2 locking nut and EVH Floyd Rose trem (complete with D-Tuna), and hard-mounted EVH humbuckers. The controls are top-notch, too: you get a handy 3-way pickup selector switch and Bourns low-friction volume and tone pots for total control over your tone and volume. All the components come together to make a guitar that looks absolutely stunning and plays even better.

Quartersawn neck for stability and playability

The neck is one of the most important aspects of any instrument, which is why the EVH Wolfgang features a quartersawn maple neck. Besides looking good, the straight grain of quartersawn necks is about 50% more stable than plain-sawn necks, and less likely to warp, twist or shrink. You'll also love the playability and feel of the compound radius fretboard on the Wolfgang. The fretboard radius goes from 12 inches at the nut to a comfortable and flat 16-inch radius on the upper frets.

EVH Wolfgang Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • A shred machine designed by rock legend Eddie Van Halen
  • High-end tonewoods and hardware
  • D-Tuna tremolo device gives you instant drop-D tuning
  • Custom humbuckers built to EVH's specs

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from EVH do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Great guitar but with issues [UPDATED]

ORIGINAL (2 1/2 STARS): This is a tough one to write as it has already gone in for warranty service because the neck keeps coming loose. First time ever I had to take a guitar in for a warranty issue. Knowing where it is built, the cost and how long the wait is, that is unacceptable. Other knock is the case is pure gimmick and nothing more than a POS (again the price?).

As for what is good about - EVERYTHING ELSE. The look, feel, sound are really amazing. I did "fret" over SS vintage frets but adjusted to them in no time (almost want to convert other guitars to same fret wire). This would be a pure 5 star guitar but knowing it is $$$ and severe problems within 3 months does not bode well. Will readjust the review if done right by Fender. We will see!

UPDATE: Sent the guitar back to Sweetwater, they did a setup and held it for a few days. However, upon getting it back the neck started to move again within minutes of playing. Returned it to Sweetwater once again and was sent a replacement guitar a month later. The new guitar had the same exact issue. Only option was either to return for full refund or find someone to fix. Ended up taking the guitar to a well-respected custom guitar luthier near me. He took a look and found the issue. Apparently Fender/EVH use metal shims between the neck and body, thus once warmed up the neck slides on the metal, no amount of tightening will keep it tight. He removed the shim and setup the guitar and FRT. Since then no issues and the guitar plays like a dream. Awesome guitar and would be 5 stars if not for all the initial issues with not 1 but 2 different guitars plus the extra cash to get it serviced.

NOTE: Sweetwater did a good job throughout the process, though in the end I needed to get it resolved elsewhere.
