Superb Double-dirt Overdrive for Busy Bees!

Imitation is a high form of flattery when it comes to overdrives, and the Beetronics Wannabee “Beelateral Buzz” overdrive pedal embraces that with a double dose of overdrive circuits with a sweet twist. The Wannabee’s unique routing tools let you combine classic overdrives in any order or combine in parallel. These tools make it easy to stack tones, which is what most players do regardless — Wannabee just simplifies the process! The included circuits cover two drive styles with deep roots. The first is a transparent, medium-gain overdrive that’s prized for its golden tone and edge-of-breakup fidelity. It’s also useful as a boost! The second circuit is a blues-style packed with monstrous output and the response of a cranked tube amplifier. The strong clarity and note definition of this circuit achieve brilliant saturation, even at high volumes. The Wannabee also offers a bevy of sound-sculpting toggles for tweaking bass response and wet/dry blend. Moreover, two footswitches fuel independent control of each overdrive, which makes the Wannabee a silver bullet for all your overdrive needs. Secure a practical spin on your favorite overdrive pedals today with the Wannabee “Beelateral Buzz” overdrive pedal from Sweetwater!

A happy marriage of memorable drives

Players endlessly debate the merits of the classic circuits that inspire the Wannabee, but why take one side when you can put both circuits side-by-side?

  • Circuit #1: it’s a controversial circuit only because so many sing its praises! Circuit #1 preserves incoming tone while upping the ante with a touch of sparkle and grit. Many also use this circuit as an almost-clean boost. Circuit #1’s companion toggle allows further customization with three degrees of wet/dry blend at your disposal.
  • Circuit #2: a high-output, amp-like overdrive in the British tradition. Famously used by John Mayer, but also by numerous non-blues artists who love saturated tube-like tones. Expect thick bass and glassy highs that can sting with a clarity that almost hurts. Circuit #2’s companion toggle lets you adjust the overdrive’s bass response, which certainly comes in handy when recording or playing at stage levels.

Custom drive orders let you bee who you Wannabee!

The Wannabee is far beyond a clone! The folks at Beetronics added innovative routing for adjusting circuit order; either circuit can be placed first, and using both circuits in tandem unlocks hearty distortion. To unleash distortion, simply increase the volume level on the circuit that’s placed first as it flows into the second overdrive! When you factor in the distortion possibilities, the Wannabee offers up to three different dirt options at any given moment and empowers efficient dynamic changes, especially in live settings. Moreover, the Wannabee lets you run both circuits in parallel if desired — an uncommon but useful option rarely seen with overdrive pedals!

Beetronics Wannabee "Beelateral Buzz" Features:

  • Analog, true bypass, dual-overdrive pedal capable of OD, boost, and distortion tones
  • 2 classic drive styles onboard, each with 3 voice variations
  • Circuit #1: transparent drive (also useful as a boost) with wet/dry toggle options
  • Circuit #2: blues-style drive packed with powerful tube-like saturation and immaculate clarity, plus bass response toggle options
  • Dual footswitches let you freely combine circuits and even achieve distortion
  • Total control over signal flow order — run both drives in parallel or as a series pair

Reviews

Sweet as Honey!
The $ price tag may look steep but this pedal delivers two vintage pedal tones in one box (and we all know Klon prices have sky-rocketed and reissued new Bluesbreakers go for $250). There are lots of tonal possibilities depending on what your are going for - I'm digging using the Bluesbreaker and Klon in parallel. The side input and output jacks may be sub-optimal for some players, but I can live with them given how sweet this pedal looks. This is my first Beetronics product but hopefully not the last. Thanks to Mike Picotte and assistant Yolanda for delivering the goods and providing first-rate customer service.

Sweet as Honey Dual Overdrive
I am a bit OCD regarding the pedalboard in my little home studio. I was running two drive pedals and started looking at dual overdrives out of a need to optimize spacing. I'm glad I spent time researching this overdrive pedal. There are good video reviews on YouTube and the consensus is that it is a great pedal. I took the chance and purchased it, and I can now say that the YouTube reviews are correct. The pedal is flexible, with so many ways to use it. Based on reviews, I thought I would love the parallel option but that is not what I am currently using. I love the Bluesbreaker circuit (circuit 0) as always on to give my main tone an edge of breakup sound. Then I use the Klon circuit (circuit 1) as a gently colored boost for lead. So my favorite way to run it is Circuit 1 into Circuit 0. Of course, with different a different guitar or amp, the options to go parallel or the other direction are there. Besides all of this, I have never cared what my pedals look like as long as the sound is what I want. Having said that, this pedal really looks great. I highly recommend it if you are looking for dual overdrive.
