Vintage Tone with PRS Playability
Tucked away in an upstairs corner of the PRS factory are racks filled with extraordinary tonewoods. Mahogany, maple, rosewood, ebony, swamp ash, korina — you name it. This is the PRS Wood Library. It is from these premium tonewoods that Wood Library guitars like this one are built. This limited-edition PRS Wood Library McCarty features a flamed maple 10-Top, a torrefied figured maple neck, and an ebony fingerboard. Two onboard 57/08 humbucking pickups are TCI-tuned in Maryland by PRS and built with vintage-style specs inspired by classic ’57 humbuckers. A doublecut mahogany body delivers great access to 22 frets, with massive sustain that's enhanced by a proprietary PRS Pattern neck crafted from torrefied figured maple. Sweetwater guitarists concur: if you're on the prowl for a playable instrument with rich old-school tone, then look no further than the PRS Wood Library McCarty!

A historic pedigree
The McCarty’s namesake Ted McCarty had his hand in some of the electric guitar’s most legendary designs, including the original humbucking pickup. McCarty’s mentorship of PRS founder Paul Reed Smith is an essential part of company history, and the original PRS McCarty model debuted in the 1990s as a tribute to Paul’s lessons learned. An enduring PRS model with evergreen appeal, this Wood Library McCarty leverages the original McCarty’s double-cut design, an early PRS-style neck, vintage-style pickups, and premium hardware and tonewoods.
’57-inspired Humbuckers
Paul Reed Smith and his team build every Wood Library McCarty pickup with their TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) tuning process, which ear-tunes each pickup to perfection before your guitar leaves PRS’ Maryland-based facility. The end result? Very musical pickups that are true to their lineage but updated for the modern player. This Wood Library McCarty features 57/08 humbuckers, a build inspired by classic 1957 humbuckers. These pickups feature alnico magnets and vintage-style wire wound in-house by PRS, with additional coil-splittable tones accessible via a push-pull tone knob.
Signature PRS Pattern Regular neck profile
The Wood Library McCarty features a highly playable Pattern Regular neck profile fitted with an ebony fretboard. A hallmark of PRS quality, neck profiles are, of course, critical to your playing experience and a point where PRS perpetually excels. Perfected after years of prototyping, the Pattern Regular neck carve is based on Paul Reed Smith’s original, pre-factory neck design — the same one used on instruments Paul built in the late ’80s at PRS’s Virginia Avenue location. You’ll love the feel and playability of the PRS Wood Library McCarty!
