Bold and Blooming Dirt Tones — Courtesy of Lari Basilio

Purpose-built for Brazilian 6-string virtuoso Lari Basilio, the JHS Violet delivers a bouquet of ultra-versatile boutique dirty tones to explore. Primed for superior sonic versatility, this pedal is equipped with a unique control section that places standard Treble and Bass controls after the distortion circuit, while the powerful midrange circuit shapes your signal before it kicks into overdrive. The result? The ability to sculpt your sound from biting, bluesy overdrive to pummeling metal-ready distortion with the tweak of a few knobs. And while the Violet makes for a top-class do-it-all dirtbox, this pedal’s ability to seamlessly blend and stack with the rest of your overdrive, distortion, and fuzz pedals allows it to effortlessly slot into any pedalboard setup. Capable of capturing hundreds of unique distortion and overdrive tones, the JHS Violet Lari Basilio signature pedal is a must-have for any dirt-obsessed guitarist’s stompbox arsenal.

Designed in collaboration with Lari Basilio

Lari Basilio is a true guitarist’s guitarist. Yes, she’s more than capable of shredding with the best of them, but her natural ear for melodic phrasing is arguably what makes her 6-string style so unique. With such a wide-ranging skill set, it was imperative for Josh Scott and the crew at JHS to deliver a distortion pedal with superior sonic flexibility, and they’ve done just that with the JHS Violet Lari Basilio signature distortion pedal. In fact, JHS tells Sweetwater that stomping on the Violet is akin to “adding a new and ultra-flexible distortion channel to your favorite clean amplifier.”

Powerful and precise equalization

The JHS Violet comes equipped with a distinctive equalization section, placing elements before and after the distortion circuit. Boosting and cutting the treble and bass in your signal is a familiar task, with these two controls placed after the distortion circuit. However, the Violet’s midrange section enters the picture before your signal begins to saturate, and it also gives you the power to target which midrange frequencies are boosted or cut using the Mid Freq control. These seemingly minor changes allow the Violet to bloom with a seriously flexible range of dirty tones. It’s equally at home dishing out classic mid-forward overdrive tones as it is residing in ultra-scooped modern metal territory.

JHS Violet Features:

  • An exceptionally versatile do-it-all overdrive and distortion pedal
  • Designed in collaboration between Josh Scott and Brazilian 6-string virtuoso Lari Basilio
  • Distinctive 3-band EQ places the midrange controls before the distortion circuit, while the Bass and Treble knobs are placed after your signal saturates
  • Powerful midrange section allows you to precisely home in on which frequencies to boost or scoop
  • Covers a massive range of dirty tones, from classic midrange-rich overdrive bite to scooped and searing modern metal tones
  • Seamlessly stacks with your favorite fuzz, overdrive, and distortion pedals
  • Silent soft-touch switching and buffered bypass construction

Reviews

Best distortion ever built
When?
I got my JHS Violet I have to say it did not meet my expectations. In fact, it exceeded them more than I ever thought was possible! I've just about every distortion pedal out there, DS1, RAT, MXR BAD ***, BOX OF ROCK. YOU NANE IT IVE EITHER OWN IT OR TRUED IT. But this one nails it! The videos tell only half the story the mid range control is absolutely game changing I can get Ace Frehley tones right out of 1975! I can get AcDc flavor even Stryper or Metallice tones are possible! This pedal is great but put the Morning Glory in front t of it and WOW!!!!
If you want the pedal that does Steve Vai or Allen Collins or Ingwee this is the one to buy. And after 40 years playing electric guitars I've finally found the right distortion pedal. And thanks to Ty my sales rep at Sweetwater. You really lead me to just the right pedal as always you are a great help and always do a fantastic job for me. And Josh at JHS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

One Pedal to Rule Them All
Believe the hype. This pedal does all the dirties. I've played it through my hollow bodies, Tele and high gain Ibanez and it is easy to find a great sound.
Music background: guitarist for 40 years. mostly rock and power pop but have delved into country, too.
Bruh…
The best distortion pedal ever made. On a clean channel: can do the heavy riffing no problem. And the tone exceeds anything out there
A true Delight to play!!!
Words can't even begin to describe how much fun it is to play this pedal for me. I must first start off by saying the way the EQ is stacked on this pedal truly makes sense. Having control over the MIDS pre-distortion just makes sense to me tbh for this kind of pedal. Allowing for much more flexibility with the bass and treble post distortion. The gain is always pleasant and never out of control or fizzy or any of those other bad things associated with dirt pedals. Josh and Lari really did their homework on this one before bringing it to market. I put this pedal through the ringer as well, playing it with all my SD bridge pickups. My favorite tone came from my Pegasus Alnico 5 pickup which is medium/high output (around 12K), but this thing also kept up easy with my Drop C guitar with a SD Duncan Distortion in the bridge as well (16K output). NO BAD TONES with this pedal if you don't go crazy with the EQ. It's active so a little goes a long way with it. Lastly I'll say I believe I am using this pedal in the way it was meant to be used as well. I'm using it as the main dirt tone on my pedalboard being pushed by the classic Maxon 808 pedal. The 55ma output helps immensely with the dynamics too. From dirty blue to the Hi-Gain stuff, you'll be covered with the Violet!!!
Music background: guitarist over 10 years
Just what I needed
I have several OD's, I use most of them periodically. It means I keep updating my pedalboard depending on the gig. I was in need of something else, not a distortion pedal, but a more aggressive OD, and this JHS is perfect ¡ It is a great OD by its own, and it is a great distortion pedal too, but it works best as a boost OD. Has to do with its very smart middle band EQ, you can make the pedal sound like practically whatever you have in mind with it. Great solution, very good pedal really.
