Reviews

Good service and high quality mounthpiece
I purchased this product for my son. We worried what to do when we did not get a chance to try before purchasing, but it was a very good experience with customer service follow-ups. We love to purchase again from sweetwater.
Where have you been, all my clarinet playing life?
I have heard about these MPs for over seven years ... and well aware that mamy top pros are using the BD5. I've been attempting to play clarinet since 1963 and have had some professiona success over the years.

I asked the members of our flagship symphony orchestra, here in Arkansas, what clarinet MP they reccommended and/or played. The answer: Vandoren BD5.

So, after playing and owning dozens of others, I ordered a BD5/13 series from Sweetwater. Nice. Had many attributes I wanted ... but the tuning was a bit low on my clarinet. Further questioning of the clarinet section on what model, I got this reply "oh, I dunno, the higher pitch one, I think".

So I ordere a "non-13" series BD5.

Awesome! Pitch is spot on. Warm, more compact, easy to control, articulates wonderfully! Great for Band players playing 1st parts and skipping around in the altissimo range.

The blanks are different between the 13 series and the regular series. The beak profile is fatter on the regular series, and this might be some of the difference I detect, but I suspect the interior construction is different as well. Also the side and tip rails are slightly different widths. And the 13 series is a bit longer.

I love the BD5 standard! Now, I think I'll unload my tacklebox collection of other MPs ...
