Classic Dano 12 String Sound and Feel

Its iconic jangle is unmistakable. Sporting the classic Shorthorn hollowbody, “S” soundhole, and a pair of ’56 Vintage Lipstick pickups, the Danelectro Vintage 12 String captures the look, feel, and tone of the early days of rock. The Vintage 12 String is constructed with a lightweight hardboard/plywood body that delivers the jangly signature “Dano” sound. In addition, a maple neck with pau ferro fingerboard offers smooth playability, while a fully adjustable bridge lets you set your intonation to your liking. The Danelectro Vintage 12 String flawlessly re-creates the “Dano” sound heard on countless hit records. You simply must experience it for yourself.

That signature jangle

The two single-coil Lipstick pickups in the Vintage 12 String have a one-of-a-kind tone that captured the imagination of so many guitarists over the last six decades. With their coils wrapped around an Alnico VI magnet and then wrapped in tape, these pickups harken back to the vintage tone of rock’s earliest days. The result is a sound that truly stands alone — jangly, with a punchy midrange and a treble kick. And with a 3-way pickup selector plus volume and tone controls for each pickup, you’ll have a lot of options for dialing in your ideal tone for any track.

An iconic American brand

Founded in 1947, Danelectro produced guitar amps throughout the 1940s before expanding into guitars in the ’50s. With their beloved quirky hollowbody designs, hardboard/plywood construction, and Lipstick pickups, the iconic Danelectro designs are instantly recognizable. Among other innovations, Danelectro introduced the baritone guitar in 1956 and the electric sitar in 1967. From guitar gods Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck to Who bassist John Entwhistle (check out the bass solo on “My Generation”) to country superstar Glen Campbell, Tom Petty lead guitarist Mike Campbell, and the ever-eclectic Wilco guitarist and solo artist Nels Cline, Danos have become staples in the guitar and bass arsenals of top artists in all genres. Now Danelectro is back again and better than ever. Sweetwater is proud to offer you this formidable lineup of iconic vintage-inspired instruments.

12 string Danelectro
Plays like a dream. Arrived next day after payment. Sweetwater has been great with dealings. Hell Yeah!!!

An Update ... On Re-Stringing
Just wanted to let you know that you should change ONE STRING AT A TIME - the unusual design could give you headaches and I don't mean that it's a deal breaker. The bridge intonation riders kind of "float" if you remove both strings at any one time. All double strings alternately go through the back of the guitar and from the front bridge (like normal) and the piece that they "ride" on can flip upside down and then be a hassle to get it right. Just do it one at a time and you'll be fine.
I had a Rick for years with that recessed design and that was MUCH more trouble than this. Because of the precise nature of any 12 string, you'll want to get each string right before moving on.
Otherwise, very happy with the purchase and have recorded with it extensively already after only 2 months. You might need something to brighten the EQ a bit as this is not an active guitar, but even by itself it has that cool jangle and also nice warm tones across the board.
Cheers.

I loved it right out of the box!
I must say that I paid the charge to have it Plekked - I never played one first, so I suggest having that service performed. My luthier gave me a slap in the head moment when I told him the nut looked like aluminum - he said "All frets are metal, why not the nut"?! Right! Anyway, I recorded with it within 20 minutes and all the parts I laid down were keepers. The guitar is bright and clean but not brittle - and I believe it has more of that classic jangly sound than a Rick does. It is very clean when played acoustically - the sure sign that if the electronics are up to it, then this guitar is gonna sound great. I owned a Rick solid body 12 for many years, so I think I know that sound and for one quarter the price, well you'd be a dope to buy something else.

Danelectro 12
This guitar sounds great. Has that sorta 60's sound to it and sounds better through a Surf n Turf compressor and a Fab chorus. Captures the Byrds, Beatles and British Invasion thing. My only complaint is that Danelectro should have put matching knobs on it for volume and tone. Other than that, it's great.
Music background: Punk, Mod, British Invasion, 60's garage, New Wave (80's)
Amazing!!
I love this guitar. Playability out of the box is remarkable. It is the easiest playing 12 string I have ever played. It's my new favorite guitar. You will never beat this guitar for this price point. Thanks to Jason and his team. True professionals.
