Multimode Digital Percussive Panache

Tymp Legio — from the Latin, “legion of drums” — was born from a desire by Noise Engineering to challenge themselves to serve up a powerful percussion module that would only take up a portion of the space required by their Basimilus Iteritas Alter drum synth module. And don’t get it twiste: Tymp Legio exists in a world of its own, in part, because of the Legio stereo DSP platform, but also because it’s truly its own machine. The 3-way Mode switch is where you’ll find your broad categories of drum sounds: Boing, for the metallic and clanging; Cat, for snares, toms, and mid-focused noise; and Boot, for lasers, subs, and other low-end oomph. Opposite that, the Tang switch chooses a variation of that category. The underlying synth sonics that power this module can be attenuated with Pitch, Decay, and Wackitude parameters, the last of which adjusts timbre. These three control points, alongside the Hit trigger, and be managed via CV and trigger signals, allowing for distinctive beat-crafting, while the stereo I/O’s Quack features introduces some sidechain-flavored ducking, much to the delight of Sweetwater’s electronic afficionados.

World of Legio: the 6HP transformable powerhouse

Noise Engineering’s unwavering commitment to owning and personalizing your experience doesn’t stop with the versatility and scope of its modules. Those endowed with the Legio title can quickly and wholly reimagine their inspiration via the powerful onboard stereo oscillator and effects platform. All you need is an Internet connection and a USB cable! Alternate firmware and open-source DIY resources are freely available from Noise Engineering to Legio module owners, supplementing your sound with a world of customizable possibilities.

Noise Engineering: unbridled passion for modulation magic

From the beginnings of humble happenstance to transcending the physical-digital divide to produce compelling, innovative hardware and software instruments, one crucial element has consistently remained as Noise Engineering’s cornerstone: integrity. The company wholeheartedly understands how infinitely personal your relationship to sound can be, so each instrument — physical or virtual — brims with a distinctive character. Additionally, every module provides maximum room for personalized control while retaining its defining attributes that give Noise Engineering’s designs their unmistakable sonic identity. Whether you’re new to Eurorack or a dyed-in-the-wool synthesist, you can rest assured knowing that the creative team at Noise Engineering crafts each aural opportunity with care, one waveform at a time.

Reviews

Great little drum
This is a really nice "do it all" drum synth that can be changed via firmware swap to also be a full voiced synth. I really like this module, as every sound in it seems usable for a broad set of genres. It's very intuitive, and though simple, can do a lot between its 3 modes per voice and the wack settings. I particularly like that it can be tuned when given a 1v/oct signal. The only part that is a bit confusing is the ducking and stereo outputs, I'd have much rather had a 1v/oct program change input so that I could use the boot, cat, and boing with a single sequence lane, which would have let me compose entire 3-part drum lines with a single input.

Regardless, knocked half a star as the value for money isn't quite there, but it does sound very good to me and I like how much you get for a small HP while still being easy to use.
