6-voice Synthesis in a Desktop Powerhouse

With a nearly half-century lineage that begins with the legendary Prophet-5, Sequential has applied its hallmark expertise to bring to bear an innovative 6-voice synthesizer: Trigon-6 Module. Loaded with three discrete VCOs per voice, polyphonic performance is rich and distinctive, augmented by the newly reimagined take on the ladder filter originally created for the Pro 3. Versatile control of waveshape, lowpass filter, LFO, and envelope generator parameters allow for vast aural exploration, enhanced by a robust suite of destination and sync choices, as well as powerful polymod tools. Onboard FX, arpeggiator, and sequencer options broaden the scope of playback, enriched with numerous performance modes and dynamic aftertouch. With 500 presets to explore and room for 500 more of your design, Sweetwater’s synthesists agree that the Trigon-6 Module is a welcome innovation on classic synth character.

Classic voicing, modern control

Built on the foundations of Sequential’s iconic 3-oscillator ladder filter sound, the Trigon-6 Module supplements the rich voicing with six voices of powerful polyphony. Blend distinctive sonics with simultaneously selectable waveforms on each of the three per-voice VCOs, with triangle, sawtooth, and reverse sawtooth options, refined and personalized through pulse-width modulation for each oscillator. Feedback and drive controls can be used to attune saturation with each oscillator, while hard sync connects VCOs one and two, and keyboard tracking can be toggled for VCO three. A supplementary white noise source broadens the scope even further; a vintage knob lets you dial in the voice-to-voice variance of vintage synths, allowing you to sculpt a sound that’s equal parts personal and quintessential Sequential.

Superlative sonic shaping

Sequential spared no effort in ensuring comprehensive control of your Trigon-6 Module tones. A flexible lowpass filter can be quickly toggled between 2- and 4-pole modes, with discrete, resonant, lowpass, and ladder options available per voice. Bipolar envelope-amount values and be used in conjunction with velocity modulation, while you can send the filter into self-oscillation with the resonance controls. The 4-stage ADSR envelope generators can be velocity modulated for both amplifier and filter envelopes.

A menagerie of modulation

Craft alluring, reactive patches with the help of the Trigon Module’s formidable LFO that boasts five waveshapes, including a sample and hold-based random mode. Eight target destinations include frequency and pulse-width values for each oscillator, as well as filter cutoff and VCA figures. Chain this into the versatile Polymod, which sources bipolar values from your VCO three and filter envelope to a choice of seven destinations. A dynamic, voltaic aftertouch is capable of simultaneously selectable destinations, including both FX mixes.

Spatialized soundscapes and robust rhythms

Bolster your sound with the texturizing tools of Sequential’s formidable FX suite. Fully digital at 24-bit/48kHz, the A and B mixes include multiple delay and reverb options, as well as chorus, flanger, phase shifter, and ring modulation. Push the vintage-inspired circuitry to its harmonic edges with gritty, stereo analog distortion, or hit the true bypass to maintain a fully analog signal path. Utilize the 3-octave range of the versatile arpeggiator to elicit compelling playback or ramp up the rhythm with the polyphonic 64-step sequencer. Stack or arrange your sonics across multiple voice modes, including a configurable-count unison or key. Plus, the polyphonic portamento is a striking supplement to the Trigon Module’s 6-voice scope.

Streamlined integration

Considering the plethora of inspiring opportunities afforded by the Trigon-6 Module, Sequential made integration into any arrangement a breeze. An uncomplicated rear panel includes 1/4-inch audio outputs for left/mono, right, and headphones, delivering uncompromising audio from the studio to the stage. MIDI ports allow for dedicated control of in, out, and thru functions, while a USB-B port supports bidirectional MIDI communication. Footswitch ports are available for sustain and sequencer start/stop controls; expression pedal ports can accommodate filter cutoff and volume values. The Trigon-6 Module comes loaded with 500 factory presets, and an additional 500 are left blank for you to painlessly craft and recall your preferred patches. The streamlined, ergonomic interface includes vivid displays, backlit buttons, and a 10-bank program selection station, with 100 programs each.

Reviews

Amazing Somics, Complements my Moog Matriarch Perfectly.
I am a longtime analog synthesizer enthusiast, and am fortunate to have a nice monophonic and paraphonic analog set up with an Arturia Matrixbrute and a Moog Matriarch. Over the years I had started to look more and more into polyphonic analog options to complement these pieces, as I knew I would like to be able to play fully-articulated chords. It had been a dream of mine to own a Sequential Circuits Prophet Five Synthesizer for some time now, especially as a child of the eighties with groups like Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, New Order, and many others making heavy use of these ethereal, haunting, and at times funky sounding machines part of their sonic signature embedded in my childhood memories. Dave Smith had made that dream a possibility with his re-release of the Prophet Five, (this time, a Rev4 with enhanced features).

I wanted to make sure I would have the funds for a keyboard version and possibly go for the Prophet 10 one day, since there is the option on having one again, which is something I had never anticipated. I have had had the experience of playing both a OB-X and the Prophet Five Rev 3, and was choosing between the modern remakes of each the Oberheim OBXA desktop, and the Prophet Ten rev 4 desktop.

I have absolutely no regrets about my decision to go with the Trigon desktop instead. This machine has its own vibe and it's really something special and unique. For many years I had gotten 80% of the way to P5 territory with my Prophet 600, that has since failed, and I ultimately ended up getting rid of it. The Prophets 6 and 5 rev 4 give me a lot of that sonic familiarity, but because of that, don't grip me the same way as the Trigon 6, and as much as I would like to have the Rev4, I don't feel the urgency having had experience with the P600.

The Trigon, however, sounds at once new and familiar. The demos you come across online don't do it justice. The Trigon 6 is extremely flexible, sounds fantastic, very well built, and most importantly it compliments my Moog Matriarch PERFECTLY. Believe me when I say this is a perfect pairing. I think of this as a polyphonic extension of the aforementioned synthesizer—while it is familiar sounding with the Moog-style ladder filter, it has its own sonic characteristics, with the switchable 2/4 pole filter, vintage knob, as well as its own Sequential lineage tone shaping poly modulation, and a nod to the Minimoog lineage with the newly created feedback/drive circuits.

Don't sleep on this one.
Raw Analog Greatness!
When I was younger, I had a Moog Prodigy…that, and a Roland Space Echo - these two units had me spellbound for hours….those were indeed, the days. Nowadays, my setup is comprised of stage keyboards, high-end synths, quality plugins, etc. But until now, no true analog representation. With Sequential choices (OB-6, Prophets, etc.) I ultimately decided on the Trigon-6 module. I could not be happier. NO menu-diving. Complete knob-per-function with easy-to-follow modulation routing. The sound? Unbelievable. Three (3) glorious VCOs, musical LFOs, 4 and 2-pole ladder filters….takes me back to my Moog days.

This synth is extremely musical and an absolute rip to play and groove with. I've never laid hands on a Memorymoog (reviews make the comparisons) nevertheless, the synth sounds full yet incredibly flexible in use. Just feels like an authentic instrument. Sequential should be proud. Finally, build quality is solid. The synth exudes quality without being buried in effects - this thing has me grinning with joy! Thank you, Dave and team!

Worth the investment
I was looking for a poly analog synth with a classic sound that wasn't limited by a 4-octave keyboard. I found it. Build quality is excellent; knobs are a little tight but will loosen up with time. Workflow and layout are intuitive. The analog distortion is one of my favorite features. I have just begun scratching the surface but have already learned enough to build some great sounds. Look forward to diving deeper.
