The Big Muff That Changed the World

Classic Big Muff fuzz tones

A faithful re-creation of the original late '60s circuit, the Electro-Harmonix Triangle Big Muff delivers a wide range of tones from its three simple controls. Guitarists at Sweetwater especially love the sweep of its Tone knob, which basically blends between lowpassed and highpassed splits of your signal. Fully counterclockwise, it sounds dark and brooding — fully clockwise sounds thin and focused. Somewhere in between, your ideal fuzz tone awaits.

Sounds Like Me

I play mostly clean but wanted a fuzz for occasional soloing. Being a devotee of Boss pedals (see pic) and trying to retain continuity, I checked out their Fuzz offering. It was a bit thin & grainy, imho. So #@!$ continuity and just get the best one out there.
There are currently 10 EHX Big Muffs available at Sweetwater and I looked at all of them. The Triangle was the clear winner because of its smoothness and versatility. It can get steely like the Ram's Head and it can be dark & grungy like the Russian with just a small tweak of the tone knob. It can do Gilmour, Hendrix, Santana & Clapton, but most importantly it can do Rob (that's me). Finding my own sound is incredibly easy with this little thing. And that sweet, smooth, violin-like sustain has to be heard to be appreciated. Sounds awesome through all my amps. The original is still the best.

Fuzz City

A great fuzz pedal. The tone knob really works well...from smooth fuzz to nasty. Played smooth with an overdrive pedal and good reverb....great sounds.

I like a Big Muff

Great sounding pedal from the mighty EHX.
Built like a tank.
Great lead tones with a Strat.
Pairing with a couple of LP with EMGs it can get monstrous!
My neighbors even say it sounds good!

When I first played through the new EHX Triangle fuzz reissue with my Telecaster, I was ecstatic! Lots of companies have tried to mimic the original triangle muffs but, they always lacked the smoothness that I liked. I love the iconic sound of the first generation of Big Muffs and EHX has successfully replicated those iconic tones. Smooth, creamy, velvety fuzz. Nothing too harsh. Just luscious vintage fuzz tones. I was happy to nail down some of my favorite David Gilmour tones with ease. It made my Telecaster sound larger than life and I couldn't be happier with the new reissue.
