Active 3-band EQ for Your Bass Guitar

Expand the sonic range of your electric bass guitar, with the Darkglass Tone Capsule bass preamp system. Instead of a typical bass/mid/treble EQ configuration, the Tone Capsule system offers bass/mid/high-mid tone shaping, each with a +/-12dB range. The bass control is centered at 70Hz for low-end power, while the mid control centers at 500Hz for midrange growl and punch. The high-mid control is centered at 2.8kHz, allowing you to enhance presence and articulation without adding noise or unwanted highs. Bassists at Sweetwater agree, the Darkglass Tone Capsule gives you powerful tone-shaping capabilities in a convenient form factor.

Darkglass Tone Capsule Bass Preamp System Features at a Glance:
  • Active preamp system for electric bass guitar
  • Ample tone-shaping opportunities from the 3-band EQ (Bass 70Hz, Mid 500Hz, High-mid 2.8kHz)
  • Hi-mid control allows you to add presence and articulation without boosting noise or unwanted highs
  • +/-12dB range on tone controls
  • Can be powered by one or two 9-volt batteries (not included) for 9-volt or 18-volt operation
Enhance your bass tone with the Darkglass Tone Capsule bass preamp system.

Reviews

I’m blown away!
I bought these to put in my Spector Euro 5lx... I am completely blown away with the difference in tone that it makes to my bass! So much more tonal range then I had before with the tone pump preamp that was in it.. Darkglass is changing the game in bass .. the tone I’m getting out of this is so clean and smoooth.. best I’ve ever heard.. Im putting one in all of my basses!

Great but not a game changer like I’d hoped.
I put this into my 5 string with some passive Bartolini pickups but it still desperately needs my Sansamp for extra push.
I'm normally a staunch fan of everything by Darkglass, but I may actually replace this down the road, or try it in a 4 string.
All that said, it's not the biggest gamble price-wise, and you never really know how these things sound until it all comes together. I say it's worth the leap overall. If I hadn't got my hopes up about this thing, I might be more satisfied because it does have a pretty great sound now, just not as mind blowing as I'd hoped.
To improve, I might suggest they don't actually do away with the "high" knob because I actually do miss being able to open up the treble and let it breathe.

The pre amp that changed my life !
I've had exp with many diff pre amps … and this one imo one of best imo . It's equally compatible with passive or active basses and unique cause it had no treble knob . Bass…. Low mids and high mids . This pre amp is in Spector euro 5LT and ding wall basses . This pre amp takes time to get used to cause little tweaks of knob carry lotta mojo till you find ya sweet spot. I'm now getting Bartolini pick ups installed in my Warwick to turn it into Funk machine that can play ANY genre of music
Music background: Semi pro
Excellent versatility albeit a bit finicky
This little tone capsule system is absolutely incredible. I love the amount of versatility it adds to any bass I could put it on. I wont lie it's been giving me problems but that's because I was very unprepared going into the installation. However, I certainly got it to work just fine. I'd strongly recommend making sure your bass has proper electromagnetic shielding before installing because this thing will pick up everything from power fluctuations to wireless printer signals

Wowzers
This preamp is fantastic. I was in the camp about not caring whether a bass was active or passive; I could take care of the amp on my pedal board. But this little preamp has made me a believer. I have it installed in a PJ with a DiMarzio Sixties P/Area J, and it sounds great. Everything is crisp and articulate, the warmth of the P comes through, at the same time the presence of the treble is there. The bass sits in the mix perfectly.

The amount of tones you have is incredible. I am running with a little added bass and low mids, and dialed back a touch on high mids, and it's just amazing. If you want to bring a bass to life this is definitely an option.

Sweetwater did an excellent job installing it too. Everything was installed perfectly and the setup was spot on. 5/5

Shoutout to Kyle Austin my sales engineer. If your a bass player Kyle knows his stuff.
