Really high value at the price point, huge range of sounds and excellent build.

After years of assuming flangers were not for me/mainly for airplane noises or other shenanigans, I came across a video demoing how to cover basically all the usually modulation types using a Boss BF-2. My interest was piqued for sure, though I wasn't interested in paying market rate for the classic discontinued Boss.

Enter the Thunderstorm. This really does seem to be a pretty spot on clone. In a few shootouts that I listened to I thought maybe the BF2 had a slightly deeper/bassy tone, but after playing with this in person the manual knob can totally be tweaked to get what you're looking for.

I already had the TC 3rd Dimension so I knew about what to expect with build quality, but I was still very impressed by how substantial and rock solid the knobs and enclosure are. it feels and sounds much more expensive for sure. I don't care for these soft touch switches but they get the job done fine I suppose. The overall enclosure size is good, not huge and not a mini, and the huge knobs are kind of fun and super easy to read.

None of this really answers whether you need a flanger or not. You probably don't. There are a ton of weird sounds in here that I would never really use. But if you want one anyway, or do need one of the very many sounds it can do, you seriously can't go wrong with one of these at the price point. Even if I pull it off my board later it will be worth keeping around for a rainy day where I want to knock out a 90's cover of whatever.

Just what I needed

I needed a flanger and I didn't have a lot of money so I took a chance on this. Built solid. Sounds great!

Thunderstorm

I had a Boss Flanger in the 90s, this one is every bit as versatile. The tones you can dial on this pedal have a lot of range. TC Thunderstorm is an all singing all dancing Flanger with dynamic range with the controls to add the jet swirl flange I've been looking for. The way we hear it in A forest by The Cure. Tried the JHS 3 series Flanger, it only made me want a Flanger. This has to be the best one made right now as of Jan 2023. Its also really sturdily built and the size looks in scale on my pedalboard with similar sized JHS and Earthquaker pedals. No regrets.

A Child of the Storm

This flanger is fantastic. It's Really well constructed and a welcome addition to my board. Responsive controls let you dial in a number of different sounds. I like the switch too. It doesn't click like most switches in this style, and requires only a soft touch to activate the effect. -Very useful if you're recording a song idea at quieter volumes. My only gripe about the pedal (and this is so minor, I realize I sound like a crybaby) is it comes with the rubber feet already attached. That's not a big deal, but they're paper backed and when you remove them it leaves glue and paper residue behind. It would be cooler if they left them off but included them in the box. Overall it's a great pedal for the money. Highly recommended.

Great vintage BF-2 Clone

You want Prince? Robert Smith? Blink-182? Here it is. Just as natural sounding as my old BF-2. The construction is very solid. Might last forever.
