Retro Low-end Firepower with Reverend Swagger

From headstock to bridge, the Thundergun bass from Reverend brims with stunning features and premium electronics for that thick old-school tone with modern bells and whistles. Reverend’s proprietary 100% korina body delivers lively low end and harmonic range with big sustain that’s elevated further by the body’s raised mid-section and contoured wings that balance the body for perfect playability. Two custom Reverend humbucker pickups — a Thick Brick in the bridge and a Split Brick in the neck — produce a warm and rounded tone, adjustable to taste via the onboard pickup pan knob. Lastly, Hipshot Ultralight tuners made from aircraft-grade aluminum provide the Thundergun bass the kind of balance in bodyweight and sound that'll have you taking your low-end frequencies sky high!

Rich, unique tonewoods

Like every Reverend instrument, the Thundergun features a lively korina body with a thin, UV-cured finish. In fact, Reverend has revealed to Sweetwater that it is the korina wood that gives Reverend basses their responsive sounds and rich harmonics. Together with its 5-piece korina/walnut neck, the Thundergun produces strong, lasting sustain yet weighs less than a comparable mahogany instrument.

Bespoke Reverend electronics

Reverend’s in-house electronics are individually designed optimized for each Reverend instrument, and the Thundergun is no exception. Onboard are two humbuckers — a Thick Brick in the bridge for thick, strong mids that cut through even the densest mixes, and a Split Brick in the neck that provides wide, round notes with pronounced highs and shaking lows. Reverend’s unique dual-point output jack (created by Pure Tone Technology) ensures an airtight cable connection that’s reliable and less prone to failure than traditional bass jacks.

Boutique hardware

The Thundergun's hardware is ultra-light and primed for versatility with a high-mass 2-way bridge that yields of enhanced clarity, sustain, and attack. This unique bridge also allows you to wind your bass strings as a string-through setup or a top-loading setup so can dial in your bass’s tone and tension just how you like it (and still change your mind later)! Onboard tone controls include three low-profile dome knobs (volume, tone, and pickup pan) that stay clear of your fingers or pick, and the pan knob is conveniently a different color for fast adjustments on stage with no flubs.

Reverend Thundergun Features:

  • Solid korina body with bold sustain and a balanced weight
  • 5-piece korina/walnut neck with a gloss finish
  • Balanced body shape with raised mid-section and contoured wing
  • Thick Brick humbucker in the bridge for thick, strong mids; Split Brick humbucker in the neck for rounded lows and warmer highs
  • Tone, volume, and pickup pan controls
  • Hipshot Ultralight tuners
  • High-mass 2-way bridge
  • Reliable Pure Tone output jack
  • Rosewood fingerboard with 21 frets and bold block fretboard inlays

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

Take the shot!
I have always thought Reverend basses looked great but, for whatever reason, I had it in my head that they were top heavy. Last weekend at a gig, a fellow bass player and I were talking about light weight basses between sets. He told me he had picked up Reverend because they were so light. I mentioned the above. He said, no way, they feel great! I have mine out in the car, wanna try it out? I played it for 5 or 6 songs during our set. It was freakin awesome. Tonally, think Thunderbird. But plenty of other tonal options as well. Mine weighs in under 8 lbs.!!
The finish, setup, literally everything, is as good as a bass twice this price. Neck reminds me of a p bass. Probably closer to a Tbird though. A Musicman HH stealth is my regular workhorse and this fits right in there. Beautiful, couldn't be happier with it.
