Versatile Preamp Pedal for Electric, Acoustic, and Bass

Based on a preamp pedal from the '80s favored by the Edge from U2 and other discerning players, The Clover preamp pedal from JHS is primed to be your always-on tone-shaping tool. It's equipped for acoustic, electric, and bass guitars, with your choice of 1/4-inch or balanced XLR outputs. In addition to the 3-band EQ, The Clover makes it easy to tighten up your sound with its side-mounted Low-cut DIP switch. And with plenty of boost available, you can use The Clover preamp pedal to overdrive your favorite amplifier.

Three EQ modes

While the Bass, Middle, and Treble controls on The Clover are self-explanatory, its rotary knob allows you to select from three operational modes. Full EQ mode offers traditional 3-band EQ operation. No Mids mode removes the midband from the circuit, allowing you to adjust lows and highs while leaving mids in a fixed setting (this emulates the original FA-1 pedal the Clover is inspired by). No EQ mode removes the EQ circuit from your signal path, for totally clean boosting. And no matter how you use it or what instrument you play, Sweetwater definitely recommends trying the Low-cut switch to tighten your tone and reduce unnecessary bass.

JHS The Clover Features:

  • Preamplifier pedal for acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass guitar
  • Shape your tone with the 3-band EQ
  • Rotary switch selects from 3 EQ modes: Full EQ, No Mids, and No EQ
  • Low-cut DIP switch cuts unnecessary bass and tightens your tone
  • Balanced XLR outputs allow you to send your signal direct to a modeler, mixer, or recording device

Reviews

Best Acoustic D/I on the Market
I purchased this to use with my Martin OMJM for live acoustic gigs. This is by far the best tone shaper you can use for an acoustic guitar. It also doubles as a D/I Box which is extremely useful.

Most sound guys, unless they are professional audio engineers, leave your acoustic guitar sounding thin. Now I'm able to add breadth and body to my sound without having to plead with the AV guy.

Super tone shaping for Guitar.
The Clover is a really great tone shaping tool for your Guitar. The rotary switch gives a large palate to work with and as a bonus it works great as a boost as well to push your tubes to saturation.

Great addition
I was looking for more sustained and more power for my sound and the j h s Clover preamp pedal was just what I was looking for. It was a great addition to my board!
Always on
I use this to sort of keep all my gain pedals under control, in between my last distortion pedal and the first modulation pedal in the chain (my Princeton has no effects loop). Thanks to Connor Bowdoin for his recommendation here, he nailed what I was after. I really like the eq as well, it has a very notable influence on the tone and really lets you dial in different sounds. I've neve owned a Vox, but this pedal makes me think I know what one sounds like with some tweaking.
Sweetens your tone
The clover preamp pedal makes an amp have the clarity in tone we can lose, due to signal loss from equipment that we use. I've tried it through a couple of my setup's: a modded fender deluxe, little practice amps and my Amplified Nation O D Reverb. It's a pedal you need that you don't know you need until you try it.
