An American-made Telecaster at a Great Price

An American-made Tele at an unbeatable price — that’s exactly what you get with the Fender American Performer Telecaster. Experience balanced tone and extreme comfort, courtesy of a lightweight alder body, maple modern C-shaped neck, and easy-playing 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard. Heat things up with an awe-inspiring combination of vintage-tinged sonics and modern output, thanks to two Yosemite single-coil pickups. On top of that, Fender’s Greasebucket tone control keeps things from getting muddy. The American Performer Tele includes ClassicGear tuners for rock-solid intonation.

American-made quality at an unbeatable price

Fender's American Performer Series exists to do one thing: give you a genuine US-made Fender at an unbeatable price. The American Performer Telecaster gives you a great selection of cool Tele features, including a supremely playable maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, jumbo frets, Yosemite pickups, and Fender's innovative Greasebucket tone control. All in all, it's quite a potent music-delivery system. And it's made right here in the USA, in Fender's state-of-the-art Corona, California, factory. The guitarists here at Sweetwater are impressed with the incredible price-to-performance ratio that’s supplied by the American Performer Series.

Vintage-tinged tone with higher output and modern wiring

While the Fender American Performer Telecaster is teeming with vintage-tinged tone, its modern output and wiring give it a sound all its own. This Tele’s Yosemite single-coil pickups feature flat-staggered pole pieces, yielding a vintage tonal balance and amp-brutalizing punch. There’s plenty of tone shaping onboard, with a master tone knob, tone control, and 3-way pickup selector switch.

Greasebucket tone control rolls off highs without adding bass

Fender has fitted their American Performer Telecaster with their Greasebucket tone control, which rolls off highs without adding bass or affecting your volume. This is seriously cool, because it gives you explicit control over your tone onstage without your having to compensate for volume loss — making the American Performer Tele a serious tone machine.

Fender American Performer Telecaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • American-made Telecaster at an unbeatable price
  • Alder body yields a balanced tone with equal amounts of lows, mids, and highs
  • Maple modern “C” neck supplies comfortable playability
  • Easy-playing 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard with jumbo frets
  • Yosemite single-coil pickups yield a vintage tonal balance and amp-brutalizing punch
  • Greasebucket tone control rolls off highs without adding bass or affecting your volume
  • 3-saddle Telecaster string-through bridge provides enhanced sustain
  • ClassicGear tuners ensure rock-solid intonation

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While demo items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Excellent Guitar Thank you, Mitch!

Just opened my package today and wow this guitar is excellent! The neck is so playable right out of the box! Sounds amazing and absolutely no hum. Not to mention it is absolutely gorgeous!

I want to thank my Sweetwater Rep Mitch Dazey who is so great to work with. He always listens to my needs and is so patient with all my questions and requests!

Love this guitar and Sweetwater!

Superb Telecaster

This guitar plays exceptionally well. It has all of the Telecaster tone you can handle, and the satin finish is very smooth and adds an almost vintage look to it. The standout for me, other than how amazing it looks, is the neck. It's very comfortable, and the jumbo frets make bending a breeze with low action. It was set up great right out of the box, and as always, Sweetwater sales and customer service went above and beyond.

Rocks great!

Plays great and has nice bouncy sound unplugged. I picked this model because the bridge pickup with gain sounded especially thick and raunchy in the videos I saw. Sounds that way at my house too, especially through a cranked Deluxe Reverb. No hum at home, hopefully not much when it leaves the house either. The neck and bridge pickup are well matched.

The Sonic Blue seems a little faded but still looks great. I like the satin finish and imagine it breathes better than thick poly. I like the brass barrel saddles for the way they color the sound and have no problem with the ashtray bridge corners or saddle screws at standard string height when palm muting.

Only thing some of the reviews gloss over is the jumbo frets-- they may take a little getting used to for me, but I've only got experience with vintage to medium jumbo.

American built and American quality

Simply put, you're getting an American built classic at a great price. I played this at Sweetwater in Ft Wayne and the floor model was just perfect. Bought a new one from their warehouse on the spot and it was set up absolutely the same. Maybe a slight buzz on the low E that I was able to adjust both saddle wise and with my playing and it is not a noticeable thing now. Part of this is the light gauge strings they put on which I kind of really like for what I'm doing with it so, pick your poison. As far as value it's a 10 out of 10. The history of this guitar is affordability and while you'll read some stuff about this series, honestly I like it twice as much as the Ultra series which I spent a lot of time with and is $$$ and borderline not really even a tele with some super questionable choice of metal pickguards. I played it against the more budget Teles and the fretboard and Alnico pickups simply blew the non-USA versions away. The famed Mexican teles are not the same and got smoked. This is probably what those were back in the day. I did think I wanted more of a purist maple fretboard and I kind of miss that but, I'm just a sucker for rosewood and the frets are just so playable I couldn't resist. I have a Les Paul and a Strat that are more costly but, I've used this live now and people absolutely LOVE it. It just dials in simply and the two pickup configuration is the perfect amount of different tone that it'll fit right in with a second guitarist. The tone goes from warm to nasty in the flip of a switch. For reference I'm playing a Peavey Delta Blues 30w tube amp. I used like a Fender champ in the store and it sounded great. I probably won't use the in between setting but, the tone knob where you can roll off some highs but, don't lose volume is a GREAT touch. As for a negative, I wasn't sure I was going to dig the matte finish and the very light blue color at first but, it's honestly grown on me and other people seem to really really love it. If you are looking for high quality and playability at a very fair price, this guitar is a pure winner.

Sonic Blue Performer

Excellent guitar. Plays great and the pickups are some of the best I've heard from Fender. A+

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them! So, whether you’re looking for your first axe or a Custom Shop creation, make sure to give your Sweetwater Sales Engineer a call at (800) 222-4700.
