A New Spin on the American Professional Telecaster Deluxe

Fender’s American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe puts a new spin on the hugely popular model, with upgrades aimed at the professional player. The iconic Tele Deluxe styling remains, but it benefits from a contoured neck heel and a redesigned 3-saddle bridge, which makes it easier than ever to get a clean setup with perfect intonation. Tim Shaw V-Mod II Double Tap humbuckers provide the fat sound you would expect from a Tele Deluxe, but they pull the wool off the top end, yielding a stunning hi-fi tone. The American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe also sports a satisfying Deep-C profile neck with Fender’s new “Super-Natural” satin finish. Guitarists at Sweetwater agree this may be the most comfortable Fender neck yet! Classic and contemporary, the Fender American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe is a world-class axe primed to dominate the studio and the stage.

The new standard for professional instruments

After the wild success of the original American Professional Stratocaster, Fender's team of designers dedicated themselves to improving on the design. The resulting instrument, the American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe, features several improvements and upgrades that push the classic design to new heights. V-Mod II Double Tap humbuckers give you signature ‘bucker heft with a tasty top-end sparkle. The upgraded “cut” 3-saddle top-load/string-through bridge has a classic look with enhanced flexibility for setting individual string tension to achieve perfect intonation. Factor in the all-new "Super-Natural" neck finish, and the Fender American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe sets the tone for what a professional-level instrument should look, sound, and feel like.

Upgraded pickups promote clarity

For the American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe, Fender's pickup guru, Tim Shaw, created a new breed of V-Mod humbucking pickups. Fittingly dubbed the V-Mod II Double Tap pickups, they deliver a hearty humbucking punch with enhanced clarity and articulation. The newest version of the American Professional also has an upgraded bridge pickup in the form of a Double Tap humbucker. Running it wide open yields a punchy tone with plenty of character. With the Push-Push tone knob, you can get realistic single-coil sounds. Whether you're keeping it clean or getting gritty, the Fender American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe will sound right at home.

Custom Shop-influenced neck

The Deep-C neck profile that you'll find on the Fender American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe solidbody electric guitar is a slight upgrade from the Fender American neck players have been in love with for years. By adding a touch more roundness to the back contour, the Deep-C carve fills your hand perfectly while never inhibiting your technique. For added playing comfort, the back of the neck is finished in Fender's "Super-Natural" satin finish, which feels fast and inviting. Your fingers will immediately notice how much control they have on the fretboard's Narrow Tall frets. For good reason, this fret wire is the most requested size at the Fender Custom Shop.

Fender American Professional II Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar Features:

  • Updated and upgraded Telecaster Deluxe for the performing musician
  • V-Mod II Double Tap humbuckers pump out punchy tones
  • Push-Push tone knob yields a convincing single-coil effect
  • 3-saddle top-load/string-through bridge has a classic look with enhanced flexibility
  • Satin-finished maple neck feels fast and responsive
  • Deep-C neck profile sits securely in your hand
  • Contoured neck heel enhances comfort when playing in the upper register

American Pro ll Telecaster

I purchased this gorgeous creature a few months ago. This guitar, by far, has the nicest neck I've ever played on. The deep C contour and narrow tall frets make it effortless to play.
It was immediately comfortable, and felt like home right out of the box. I've primarily played a mid 90s strat, and an older Ibanez RG570 for the last 25 years, and thought it would take some adjustment time, having never had a Telecaster. But it instantly became my favorite guitar. I play it through two amps in stereo, an old Fender Ultimate Chorus, and a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue. The clean tones are glorious. Shimmering, glassy, and amazing. Push/pull coil tapping tone knobs offer some cool tonal variations, and I find most of them very useful. Once settled in, this guitar stays in tune extremely well. Beautiful, stable, and plays like a total dream. And in person, it is truly a striking color. Worth every penny.

Excellent Instrument - Excellent Service

This is the first guitar that I have purchased online without ever putting hands on it, so for me it was a bit of a stressful purchasing to be putting that much money on the line and faith in Sweetwater to deliver. And they did! Nicholas Weaver worked with me the entire time, ensuring I was getting what I truly wanted and not settling (Nicholas encouraged me to wait for the Mercury/Silver color to come in stock, instead of going for an "in-stock" color). Turned out to be a good decision to wait because the Mercury color is just awesome in person! Guitar of course plays like a dream. The push/push Double-tap tone knobs make this guitar very versatile, but it can scream if you want it to.

American Professional II vs Vintera

I'll start by saying that I purchased the Vintera Road Worn Deluxe prior to this model, and will give some comparisons and contrast to the American Professional II. The fit and finish on the Am Pro is flawless (hard to compare with the Road Worn when you essentially paid for flaws!). That being said, I tend to not coddle the Vintera. I love the "Mercury" color on the Am Pro. It reminds me of the old Silverburst, but subtler. The "Deep C" neck profile on the AM Pro feels like a modern C, whereas the neck on the Vintera feels like a true deep C. There's no comparison with the fret work. The Am Pro's frets are flawless and the fret board edge is smooth and nicely rolled. The Vintera came with sharp fret ends and unpolished frets (a big disappointment). The narrow tall frets on the AM Pro do make for a smooth experience when bending strings, however the bigger wider frets on the Vintera feel more familiar. The traditional Wide Range humbuckers on the Vintera are what you'd expect to hear on a 70's Tele. The re-voiced V-Mod pickups on the Am Pro give the humbuckers more punch and an added compression (which mellow the high end compared to the Vintera). The coil splitting feature on the AM Pro is nice for subtle tonal variations (especially on cleaner settings), but don't expect to have the best of both single coil and humbucker worlds. The Vintera has a six vintage Strat style saddle bridge, which makes intonation a breeze. The AM Pro chose to employ a three compensated brass barrel bridge (top load or traditional), with a trimmed back bridge plate. It's a nice design and helps to maintain some of that traditional Tele twang (not as easy to intonate). The AM Pro comes with a newly designed heavy-duty molded case (travel-worthy). The Vintera came with one of the cheapest gig bags I have ever seen. I gave the Vintera a 3 star review (on another mfg page). I am giving the Am Pro 5.!!

Versatile and Rock Solid

This is a guitar my wife got me for Christmas... yes, I'm spoiled. This is not a guitar I would have picked out for myself. I would have most likely picked a fairly standard Tele with two single coils. The case alone was awesome so I knew what was inside was goin to be nice. Opened it up to see this shiny metallic grey paint (called Mercury), then those two Fender humbucker pickups sparking up at me. The joy of getting a brand new guitar... no scratches, no marks. I get to put all the wear and tear on this bad boy myself. A bit of a throwback to the 1970's from the looks, but seeing how I was a 70's child, I liked the look... it looks tough.

But, how does it play, and most importantly, how does it sound? Playability was just fine, it had a very good setup out of the box, I did very little tweaking to get it right where I wanted. Some folks rag on the three saddle brass tuners that most tele's have, but intonation was spot on! And, with no tremolo, tuning was rock solid. I can really dig into the strings, bend the strings, and stays in tune. Strat-style belly cut and rounded heel edge where the neck joins were very nice touches to improve playability. The neck carve is very comfortable, not a shredding-style like on my super-start, but still very comfortable.

The pickup and electronics make this thing very versatile. I like the coil splitting ability for both humbuckers, provides a lot of options to chose from. Playing with the tone and volume knobs, gets even more ways to dial in some cool and interesting tones. On the amp's clean channel, I got some very glassy tones with a hint of edge from the bridge humbuckers, warms up a bit on the neck humbuckers. I raised the height of both, just a bit from the factory setting. Use the coil-splitting function and you find the standard chimes that you would expect from a single coil Fender. Flip the amp to a higher gain setting (crunch) and just good old classic rock from both humbuckers and single coils. For me, this is where this guitar does it's best work. Just feels right on some classic rock tones, which certainly matches the 70's look. Onto the high gain setting (Lead) and still get some good stuff... Probably not going to give you modern metal tones, but some very usable lead guitar tones, and definitely good for higher-gain rhythm work.

Overall, a very good addition to my axe collection.
