Articulate Sound, Responsive Feel

Promark Hickory 420 drumsticks were designed by acclaimed progressive rock drummer Mike Portnoy. The short, quick taper of these sticks provides you with a responsive feel, excellent forward balance, and surprisingly little rebound. Expect a bright, articulate sound from these drumsticks, thanks to their oval nylon tip. A lot of the drummers at Sweetwater use hickory drumsticks like Promark Hickory 420s because hickory's resilience, responsiveness, durability, and classic feel make for such an enjoyable drumming experience.

Reviews

These are the ones!
I've used these playing live for years. The diameter is perfect for feel and volume (it's just under a 5a). I once tried switching to normal 5a's but found the volume to be a bit high for clubs. These are great all-around performers and the only ones I use.

Good feel
Play electronic and these nylon tip 420's are perfect.
The 747's a little heavy for nights of 45 songs

Best sticks ever!
I've been using these for years and they're outstanding. Perfect diameter and length, I keep coming back to these every time.

Great!
I wanted to dislike these sticks since they are a signature series. But alas, they feel fantastic! They didn't bless me with Portnoy chops, but boy oh boy do they feel great in the hand! They feel overall like a 7A but they have the pop of a 5A. They are awesome if you like light, responsive sticks!
BEST STICKS EVER!!
Best Sticks Ever!!...for me anyway...
If I were to design a drumstick specifically for MY playing style, I would design it EXACTLY this way. The shaft is relatively thin, slightly thinner than a 5A, but the shoulder and taper are thicker then even a 5b and the tip is fairly huge (talkin about drumsticks here, people).
I like a lot of ride cymbal and bell articulation, and the thick shoulder + XL tip are perfect for that. The stick (as a whole) feels fairly thin and light (slightly lighter than my VF 5A's) but the overall balance is great and you get one heck of a THWACK with the front being relatively heavy.
I've been using these sticks for about a year and I'm on my third brick. You will break more of these than you would a 5b I'm sure, but it's worth it for me to have the perfect stick.
I've never seen drumsticks quite like these before and I hope they continue to make them, because if they stop, or run out, I WILL cry.
