Inspired by the Legendary T-Top Humbucker

If you’re clamoring for the arena-rock crunch of the ’70s and ’80s, then the Gibson Accessories T-Type humbucker pickup delivers the same medium-output tone and high-aggression punch of its legendary forebearer, the T-Top humbucker! T-Type pickups are the spiritual successors to Gibson’s T-Top humbuckers, which slot perfectly in between the elegant sound of the PAF and the all-out fury of later maximum-output humbucker designs. While the originals used a variety of different magnets, Gibson Accessories’ modern re-creation utilizes Alnico V magnets for a sharp, bright attack. Finally, while T-Type humbuckers are unpotted (which can lead to a bit of squeal and hum at monster volumes), Sweetwater guitarists find that this facet greatly opens up the treble response and inherent clarity of a pickup design.

Gibson Accessories T-Type Electric Guitar Bridge Humbucking Pickup Features:

  • Inspired by the legendary Gibson T-Top pickups from the ’70s and ’80s
  • Unpotted construction for an open and airy tone, with plenty of treble bite
  • Alnico V magnets for enhanced output and exceptional tonal clarity

Reviews

Burstbucker-Buckers
I bought a new Epiphone IBG '61 SG Sandard that came stock with Gibson Burstbuckers 2 & 3. They sounded glorious with high-gain settings but with lower gain, they became dark and muddy. I really love this guitar, but rarely do the high-gain stuff, so I went pickup shopping.
These T-Types are exactly what I was looking for. They are markedly brighter with tighter bottom end and have exquisite note definition & clarity. They behave somewhat like single coils while still retaining that Gibson humbucker sound and feel. Perfectly voiced for the lower gain, 70s classic rock stuff that I play. And at higher settings, they really cut through the mix.
If you play mostly high gain, get the Burstbuckers, they're awesome in that capacity. If you play mostly clean-ish to medium gain, like I do, then the T-Types are what you're looking for.
(Btw, I believe that Gibson is putting these p'ups in most of their 335 models nowadays. A very wise business decision, imo).
