Thin Body, Gargantuan Tone

The Takamine Thinline TSP178ACK N is an electric guitarist’s dream, thanks to its comfortable streamlined body and Slender C-shaped mahogany neck. What’s more, a cutaway supplies easy access to this acoustic-electric guitar’s upper frets. Enjoy ample projection and clear tonality via a stunning-looking all-koa body, while a CT-3N preamp system ensures top-shelf plugged-in tone. The Thinline TSP178ACK N boasts an eye-catching abalone rosette and fingerboard inlays.

Koa looks and great koa tone

The Thinline TSP178ACK N’s body is constructed entirely from Hawaiian koa. Koa looks beautiful — there's no denying that. As for tone, this wood boasts the midrange of mahogany, along with the high end of maple. Take note — a new koa instrument may sound excessively bright; however, the more it’s played the more the sound will open up. Over time, your Thinline TSP178ACK N will increase in richness, sweetness, and resonance, especially for fingerstyle playing. Beyond that, this acoustic-electric guitar’s mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard give you a smooth and precise fretting surface while producing full, enveloping sustain.

Shown in Gloss See-Thru Blue Burst.

Great-sounding CT-3N preamp system

When you take the stage with the Takamine Thinline TSP178ACK N, you can expect top-shelf plugged-in tone, thanks to its CT-3N electronics. Created explicitly for the Thinline Series, this preamp system features a 3-band EQ for tone shaping and a notch filter for feedback elimination. You also get an onboard tuner, battery indicator, and master volume control. When you combine the CT-3N’s stellar preamplification with Takamine’s proprietary Palathetic pickup, the results are impressive. And since you're buying your new Takamine from Sweetwater's Guitar Gallery, you know the electronics have been tested and will be working for you right out of the box.

Compact and comfortable

Large acoustic guitars are appreciated for their massive tone and extraordinary projection. That said, not everybody finds them comfortable to play; especially if they primarily play a solidbody electric. Enter the Thinline Series — these guitars enable electric players’ lower arm to rest on the instrument’s body at an angle that better accommodates their playing style. But don’t think for a minute that Thinline Series guitars lack in tone — their streamlined bodies offer excellent volume and clarity. Even when you play them unplugged, they deliver excellent projection and articulation.

Takamine Thinline TSP178ACK N Features:

  • Acoustic-electric guitar with compact, streamlined body
  • Stunning-looking koa construction aids in a clear tonality
  • Thinline body gives you plenty of volume while providing easy playability
  • Slender C-shaped mahogany neck and easy-playing ebony fingerboard
  • Cutaway supplies easy access to the guitar’s upper frets
  • CT-3N preamp system with tuner and 3-band EQ delivers clear and articulate sound onstage

Recording and Amped Bang for your buck

Ordered this fine lady a couple weeks ago and have put her through the paces.
She's a little shy and cigar-box sounding unplugged, which is to be expected with a thinline. But maaaan does she sing through an amp, I'd swear the clouds opened up and let the sun warm my shoulders when I let her loose on every one of my amps, still need to run her through my Rednet setup to get a full picture, but this lady is on track to be my go-to recording girl.

In short,
if you're looking for a good pickin' and grinnin' guitar for 'round the campfire, probably not the guitar for you.

If you're looking for a guitar that sings like a a sweet angel through an amp and for recording, absolutely a must buy.

Beautiful guitar with a bright tone

I have this beautiful guitar and not only is the figured Koa incredible but I really love the sound. It isn't a big boomy sound like a dreadnaught guitar but more of a sparkle sound almost like a 12 string. It has that bright quality about it. The fit and finish could not be any better and is certainly spot on. Little things like the quality headstock with a koa face and the inlayed Takamine name. Flawless ebony embraces the fretboard making a smooth playing surface. It feels as smooth as my Fender American Stratocaster with the maple fretboard.
This guitar has exactly the sound I was looking for. My only complaint is the strings are a bit high and I prefer a lower action. I did have my guitar plek'ed before delivery and now I am wondering if that process shaved a little too much from the frets? I am not sure that is possible.

If you are thinking about this guitar I would recommend that you pull the trigger before Koa wood gets priced out of sight.
Music background: I have been playing guitar for 58 years. I have a Gibson Les Paul, American Fender 60th anniversary Statocastet, Gibson SG 50's tribute, Ernie Ball Music Man Luke Iii, an old Aria dreadnaught that pre-dates their records.
