Five Reference-grade Amp Models from the Mesa/Boogie Vault
Whether you’re rocking a physical TONEX pedal on the stage or laying down tracks with IK Multimedia’s TONEX app, the IK Multimedia TONEX Mesa/Boogie Reference Signature Collection plug-in is a must-have for the high-gain obsessive with a passion for Mesa/Boogie might. This comprehensive collection boasts four immaculate TONEX models of individual amplifiers pulled from Mesa/Boogie’s Tone Lab — models loftily dubbed “reference amps” for their historical importance and sonic significance to Mesa/Boogie’s half-century legacy. Moreover, your bounty includes models of Mesa/Boogie’s limited-edition King Snake combo to cop smooth Santana-style tones. To precisely capture every sonic nuance of these five amplifiers, IK Multimedia worked directly with Mesa/Boogie’s in-house tone guru, Doug “Tone Boy” West, at a world-class studio, aided by IK’s state-of-the-art Advanced AI Machine Modeling Technology. The result? Some 70 exacting Tone Models perfectly capture the complex, harmonic-rich gain and expressive dynamics of Mesa/Boogie’s most iconic amplifiers.
Note: This expansion is for the TONEX ecosystem and requires either the free TONEX CS software, TONEX pedal, or full version software. Please contact your Sweetwater Sales Engineer if you have questions.

A sonic history of Mesa/Boogie
The IK Multimedia TONEX Mesa/Boogie Reference Signature Collection plug-in provides four reference amps taken directly from Mesa/Boogie’s Tone Lab, along with the limited-edition King Snake — an exacting replication of Carlos Santana’s legendary “Budokan” Mark I amplifier. From the searing sound of the 1984 Mark IIC+ to the gain-drenched sounds of Mesa/Boogie’s 1990s-era Dual and Triple Rectifier amps to the raw sounds of the Mark IV, this collection spans all of Mesa/Boogie’s iconic tones in a single plug-in.
What’s more, the four reference amps were captured using two matching reference cabs from Mesa/Boogie, including a 4 x 12-inch Slope and 1 x 12-inch Widebody Extension. These two cabs have been perfectly worn in over the years by the Mesa/Boogie team, supplying a rich, warm, and touch-sensitive broken-in feel. True to Santana’s tastes, the King Snake’s cab was recorded with a Jensen Blackbird 100 alnico speaker, which Sweetwater guitarists find provides a decidedly clear and vocal-like quality when pushed into overdrive.
