An Instant Ibanez Classic

Ibanez set out to create a merger of classic looks, classic tones, and modern performance with their Talman Bass Standard. Sweetwater is happy to report that Ibanez has achieved their goal. This well-priced bass guitar doesn’t skimp on stellar sound, thanks to a combination of Dynamix P and J pickups. Here, you’ll find those classic tones from days gone by and new ones ready and waiting. The body of the Talman Standard is made of poplar, setting it up for a strong tonal foundation, while an ash top adds a little extra charm and dimension. A bolt-on roasted maple neck reels in your fretting hand while it comfortably transverses the rich rosewood fingerboard. See what the fuss is all about with the Ibanez Talman Bass Standard.

Big tone from Dynamix P/J pickups

Take a dive into those classic tones and discover the versatility that dueling P- and J-style pickups can bring to a bass guitar. Ibanez outfitted the Talman Standard with a duo of Dynamix pickups, making it an instant classic with tones that reach back to some of history's most famous bass players. From fat, thumping rock tones to soft, mid-rich R&B and jazz lines, the Talman has a wide range of sonic territory to explore. The Ibanez custom 2-band EQ and balancer knob round out the sonic possibilities and put the power in your hands.

Classic good looks

The Talman Bass Standard wins style points in Sweetwater's book with its thin-waisted body, eye-grabbing hardware, and oversized tuning keys. The Talman's classic good looks and modern sleekness make it a good fit for most stage shows. This Talman rendition benefits from the added charm of its Tamo ash top that shines through its finish. Lastly, classic fingerboard inlays up the ante for exceptional visual appeal.

Ibanez Talman Bass Standard Features:

  • Tamo ash top over a poplar body
  • Comfortable body shape with a classy design
  • Bolt-on roasted maple neck for fretting comfort
  • Rich rosewood fingerboard with 20 medium frets
  • Eye-catching fingerboard inlays, high-quality hardware, and oversized tuning keys add visual charm
  • Dynamix P and J pickups deliver classic bass sound with tons of versatility
  • Sculpt your sound with an Ibanez Custom 2-band EQ

Reviews

My dream bass! For a steal!
I've been looking at the cheaper model of this bass (TMB105) for years now after trying the 4 string version at guitar center. For the price that bass is still an amazing option, but my only gripe is it's a bit neck heavy (even on the 4 string, so I'd imagine the 5 string would be worse). Despite having an extra string, this bass solved that problem by using roasted maple! The balance is much better.
For the extra $ (at the time of writing this review) you pay over the TMB105, I think the roasted neck alone is worth the upgrade, but you also get a beautiful figured ash top with blue burst! I'm an absolute sucker for blue finishes, so when I saw this top I was over the moon! The only down sides I could possibly come up with for this bass, is that I would flip the volume and blend on the concentric pot to have volume on the bottom, since it's a bit easier to adjust the lower knob on the fly. That's such a small detail though, I don't hold it against this bass. One other small downside is changing the battery requires removing 2 phillips head screws, but it is what it is.
Overall, I'm in love with this bass! The P/J configuration IMO is the most versatile pickup combo you can have on a bass, and these pickups sound great, especially considering the price. The preamp is very powerful, and the knobs have a notch in the middle so you can easily return to the center position, without being too stiff to get in the way of adjusting quickly. The strings are comfortably spaced for slapping techniques without being too wide.
You can see in the uploaded pics the exact bass I bought from sweetwater. The top on mine has a nice tight figured grain. This bass also tends to be 9-10lbs, and I wanted one on the lighter side, so the one I chose is 9lbs 2oz. I will be posting a youtube review under the channel AustinDavidGuitar soon if you want a more detailed review! Awesome bass 9.5/10, it would be 10/10 easily if it wasn't for the screws on the battery plate.

Its alright
The guitar plays and sounds great but the build quality breaks my heart. The included hardware has fallen apart on me within a day. Like I am not even kidding. Very disappointed with this guitar that has so much potential
