Solid Bass Value, Classic Good Looks

Step up to a value-packed electric bass guitar: the Ibanez Talman Standard TMB35. The MB35 delivers powerful, punchy tone from its poplar body and solid playability from its maple neck and jatoba fingerboard. Dynamix P/J style pickups give the Talman Bass impressive tonal versatility, with a split-coil neck pickup for fat, punchy fundamental and a single-coil bridge pickup for enhanced midrange growl. Whether you’re searching for an easy-playing first bass or a reliable second instrument, bassists at Sweetwater love the Ibanez Talman Bass for its cool vintage vibe, smooth playability, and affordable price tag.

Big tone from Dynamix P/J pickups

The Talman’s Dynamix P and J pickups bring you the sound of some of the most famous bass players in history. From fat, thumping rock tones to soft, mid-rich R&B and jazz lines, the Talman gives you a wide range of sonic territory to explore.

Classic good looks

The Talman wins style points in Sweetwater’s book with its comfortable offset-waist body, rakish pickguard shape, chrome hardware, and oversized tuning knobs. Rocking classic good looks and modern sleekness, the Talman looks great on any stage.

Ibanez: a brief history

Ibanez began its life in 1908 as the Hoshino Gakki company in Nagoya, Japan. However, the company didn’t get into the guitar business until 1929, when they started importing Salvador Ibanez guitars from Spain. In 1935, Hoshino Gakki began building Spanish acoustic guitars under the "Ibanez Salvador" name, which was later shortened to "Ibanez." Although Ibanez began manufacturing electric guitars in 1957, the company was relatively unknown in the West until the 1960s, when they started producing guitars based on American designs. By the late 1970s, Ibanez had stopped producing derivative instruments and had begun manufacturing the innovative original guitar and bass designs that the company is now known for. Ibanez is also famous for their effect pedals, most notably the Tube Screamer. Sweetwater is proud to offer to you such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.

Buy this bass!
This bass is awesome! I got mine yesterday and its been tons of fun! Good for a beginner too!
My first short scale!
I've owned my TMB35 for nearly 6 months, and this is truly a sleeper bass. I've never been able to coax a great tone out of a P/J pickup equipped bass until this bass. Fit, finish and tone are all great, especially for the price! If you are looking for a short scale, check out this bass (or the 4-string TMB30)!

Tip: The Gator 4G Jazzmaster gig bag fits the TMB35 *PERFECTLY*!

A great bass for the price
I was looking for a short scale bass to add to my arsenal when I came across this one. I'm a five string player, so this fits the bill nicely. I gave it a four and a half for the same reason the other reviewer did, a heavy neck. My solution was to add a second strap peg higher on the back of the body that lined up with the next strap hole. This balanced the bass out very nicely. (see pic) I also replaced the VVT controls with a pre-wired VBT pot set along with better knobs, which I much prefer over the former. (see second pic) The one thing that was wrong was that one of the intonation screws wasn't fully tapped and limited adjustment. That wasn't an issue in my mind because I replaced the bridge with a hipshot nickel model.
All things said, I love the way this bass plays and sounds, and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a short scale.

Great inexpensive bass
This came in great shape and needed very few adjustments. I wanted to try out a short scale as I'm starting to get hand cramps playing my USA Fender Jazz 5 string. It's a little difficult with the highest notes but I guess that's the sacrifice for shorter neck.
Anyway it's awesome fo the price and sounds great!
Punches well above its weight!
I needed a 5 string bass for some recording work away from my primary location. I bought the Tallman for the price thinking " I'll only use it once or twice so I'll make it work. It was a real surprise. Flawless construction. Excellent set up , variety of useful tones, and most important: very even string to string response on recordings without eq or compression. I like it so much I'm going to buy another when I get home.
