Another Fab Throwback Collab by Epiphone and Gibson

Epiphone is all about throwing it back to 1964 in grand style with this thundering Thunderbird ’64 Bass! Sweetwater looked into the specs of this bass, and we know vintage music lovers will find much to love about the classic Thunderbird body shape, 9-ply mahogany walnut neck, and Indian laurel fingerboard that all make for a supremely enjoyable playing experience. Bassists are also sure to find their groove with the sonics of this bass guitar thanks to the duo of ProBucker 760 humbuckers that dole out boisterous, thumping tone that’s right at home in rock ’n’ roll. This Thunderbird model is sure to bring honor to its legacy while bringing its build quality and electronics up to par with 21st-century bassist needs.

Take the stage in style

Here's a little fun fact about the Thunderbird bass: It was initially designed by the automotive designer Ray Dietrich! The Thunderbird '64 stays true to many of the original innovations that made it such a rising star, including a neck-through construction and the comfortably sculpted Thunderbird body shape and wings that'll never go out of style. With a body of mahogany and a '60s Rounded Bass 9-ply mahogany/walnut neck, the Thunderbird '64 is sure to soar through any groove you can lay on its Indian laurel fingerboard. Other hardware combines to keep this bass rock solid during gigs and rehearsals alike, such as the Epiphone Vintage Bass Tune-o-matic bridge, a Graph Tech nut, and clover open-gear bass tuners. Take the stage in style with this eye-catching vintage vibe Thunderbird!

Great tone from dual humbucking pickups

Epiphone's ProBucker 760 humbucking pickups are tuned to replicate the glorious thump of Gibson's original 1960s Thunderbird pickups. For tone shaping, you've got a separate volume knob for each pickup, giving you access to blended pickup tones you can't achieve with a traditional three-way pickup selector. A master tone control lets you dial in just the right amount of top-end snap.

Epiphone Thunderbird '64 Bass Guitar Features:

  • A vintage-inspired Thunderbird model collaboration between Epiphone and Gibson
  • Built with a classic 9-piece neck-through design with mahogany and walnut
  • Mahogany body with classic side wing design
  • Epiphone Vintage Bass Tune-o-matic bridge, open-gear clover tuners, and Graph Tech nut keep this bass's tuning rock solid
  • '60s rounded bass neck profile feels comfortable in the hand for long gigs
  • Indian laurel fingerboard sports 20 frets
  • Epiphone ProBucker 760 humbucking pickups are designed to replicate original Gibson Thunderbird pickups

This thing rips. Perfect for Doom.

I'd been looking for a good bass to hammer with distortion and this couldn't have been any better. It retains its low end while still being thunderous. I definitely recommend this bass. Plus it looks sweet.
Music background: Played bass since 2014.
