The Epitome of Surfliner Style

More than just a visual upgrade over the standard Surfliner, Guild’s Surfliner Deluxe fully commits to the offset guitar formula with the surfy sounds of a 2-piece vibrato unit! This unit style hails from the vintage era’s surf and offset guitars, offering an incredibly smooth, gliding vibrato action and a distinct quick-attack, moderate sustain sound. In addition, the Surfliner Deluxe truly lives up to its “Deluxe” designation, boasting a maple neck with sleek block/binding rosewood fingerboard, matched painted headstock, and redesigned control scheme. The rest is all classic Surfliner: the lightweight poplar body is home to an endlessly versatile 3-pickup HSS configuration of a bridge Guild HB-2 humbucker and two DeArmond Aerosonic single-coils to effortlessly cover everything from traditional washed-out surf tones to hard rock swagger and beyond.

Versatile HSS pickup configuration

While this guitar takes inspiration from the surf guitars of the ’60s, the Surfliner Deluxe’s modernized HSS pickup combo can cover almost any style you can throw at it! The Guild HB-2 mini humbucker bridge pickup provides a full, punchy tone that’s equally at home with twangy tremolo picking as it is with fuzzed-out garage rock lead tones. Two Aerosonic pickups in the middle and the neck position bring the single-coil clarity, ideal for players looking to capture more traditional offset-style guitar tones.

Comfortable maple neck

The Surfliner Deluxe sports a beautiful rosewood-on-maple neck that’s loaded with features to deliver a versatile and comfortable playing experience. The 10-inch fingerboard radius is curved enough to deliver both easy open-position playing and wide enough to prevent your bends from choking out when exploring the Surfliner Deluxe’s higher register. Next, the elegant block and binding fingerboard appointments are a serious visual upgrade over the standard Surfliner Deluxe. Finally, the “C” shape neck is sure to make players of all varieties feel right at home when playing the Surfliner Deluxe — it’s the standard guitar neck shape for a reason!

Surfy offset-style vibrato system

While the standard Surfliner features a traditional string-through hardtail bridge, the Surfliner Deluxe fully commits to the offset formula with a 2-piece Guild vibrato unit. Any fan of the classic offset guitars of the ‘60s will find much to love about this reliable vibrato system, sporting a depth that goes from a subtle shimmer to cascading waves of surfy vibrato. Moreover, it’s also a must-have vibrato system for the more alternative-minded musician — after all, it’s the very same unit that defined the gliding strummed chord-vibrato sway of the shoegaze era!

Guild Surfliner Deluxe Electric Guitar Features:

  • Lightweight poplar body in an exceptionally comfortable offset-style design
  • Maple neck in a highly versatile “C” shape
  • Rosewood fingerboard featuring elegant binding and block inlays
  • Narrow jumbo frets in a 10-inch radius are sure to please guitarists of all styles and backgrounds
  • Versatile HSS pickup configuration that covers everything from traditional surf sounds to hard rock to blues and beyond
  • Tune-o-matic bridge with Guild Vibrato system captures the gliding vibrato sounds of both the surf guitar and shoegaze era

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Playability and wide range of tone

Big shout to Guild for their craftsmanship. The surfliner deluxe plays nicely with a wide range of tone selection. The roasted neck feels good on the hands. My only complaint they should've released this sooner. For someone that's looking into buying a new axe in the mid to upper price range this one worth trying. Big thanks to Billy G. At sweetwater for being a great Sales rep, and informant too!

Very Pleased!

I'm very happy with my rose quartz surfliner deluxe. I am in love with the feel of the roasted maple neck. I admit i bought it on looks, but because of the pickup slection, the offset trem, and playability, its apparent that it's a REALLY flexible instrument. The quality of the build is great too.

Lives up to its name and so much more

I am so happy I purchased this guitar. It is beautiful and absolute treat to play. Build quality is excellent. I have been primarily using the middle pick up for a surf meets indie or grunge tone. The locking tuners are awesome and I think the vibrato is a must have - at least for my playing style. That feature is why I chose this model over the standard Surfliner. If you're are thinking about this, you should go for it. I would absolutely recommend this guitar to a friend.

An inspiring surf rock machine

I had been previously unfamiliar with Guild electrics until the last year. In the late spring I picked up a Surfliner dual humbbucker electric and was very impressed. The playability and style was just very cool...and different. Shortly after, I found out about the Deluxe (and this this pink color) and knew I had to get my hands on one.

I ended up getting the rose quartz metallic version and it's just beautiful. The offset body, hardware and toasted neck are quite unique compared to other similar styles of surf guitars. The pickups sound great and allow for a variety of styles, including grunge rock, which I predominately play. I would say it's sound is closer to a SSH strat with this pickup configuration, but is overall still a fuller sound. The weight of the guitar is vary manageable and craftsmanship punches above it's cost.

So far, after two weeks I don't really have any negatives to point out. The only think you might want to be aware of is that the whammy bar locks in with a very small allen wrench that you will need to have with you if you take it out gigging and/or store it in a case.

Nice Guitar

A unique hardware combination. It is a good guitar at this price point. I had it for about 2 weeks with a few complaints. The vibrato action is a bit stiff (difficult to depress) even when the middle screw is loosened. There is some popping when doing major dives with the vibrato. Also the high e string locking tuner had a difficult time staying tightened during both attempted restrings. Other than that it is a pretty cool guitar.

When customers come to Sweetwater looking for great, affordable acoustic guitars, we're always quick to tell them about Guild.
