Injection-molded Waterproof Carry-on for Your Studio Gear!

The SKB Studio Flyer Rack Case is a steamer trunk of innovative features packed into a compact, convenient, carry-on size. It boasts a virtually indestructible injection-molded shell that is both lighter, stronger, and less expensive than the previous 2U Studio Flyer. It also features front and rear molded-in square rack rails that are pre-installed with cage nuts, giving an extra element of security to sensitive equipment on the go. Improved quiet-glide wheels, a user-friendly pull handle, built-in cord pockets, and a laptop compartment under the lid all help make the SKB Studio Flyer the ultimate transport solution for studio gear today.

The multi-tool of rack cases: compact but full-featured

At only 1.6 cubic feet, the SKB Studio Flyer is made for just that: flying. Its small volume meets most airline carry-on size restrictions, yet it contains enough generously sized compartments to hold all your most essential studio gear. There are two cord pockets under the 2U rack space, and the lid has interior padding and a 2-inch compartment that will accommodate most laptops. There is also extra space at the front and rear to allow room for any knobs and switches protruding from your rack gear. And since water and electronics don't play nice together, Sweetwater's studio engineers are glad to see that there are waterproof seals on all Studio Flyer compartment doors.

SKB road cases: travel ready and convenient by design

SKB is a leader in the world of rugged road cases, and the Studio Flyer Rack Case strongly reinforces its reputation for build quality and toughness. Injection molding produces impact-resistant, durable case walls, corners, and lids, so your gear will get there safely. Once you arrive, open the lid to enjoy using the large laptop work area with adjustable hook-and-loop right-angle brackets to hold your laptop in place. The built-in quiet-glide wheels and pull-out handle make it easy to dash from gate to gate. Then, when you get on the plane, depress the conveniently located thumb switch and store the handle in its compartment, and our Studio Flyer— with your gear safe from rough handling — is ready to be placed in the overhead compartment.

SKB Studio Flyer Rack Case Features:

  • Injection-molded case is lighter and stronger than previous models for portability and safety
  • Compact size meets most airline carry-on size restrictions, so you can take the case on the plane
  • Waterproof seals on all compartment doors keep your gear dry for best performance
  • Innovative molded-in front/rear rack rails for convenient, quick rack gear installation
  • Large laptop work area with integrated safety brackets keeps your laptop and gear in one place
  • 2 cord pockets hold cables and cords; no separate carry bag needed
  • Quiet-glide wheels & pull-out handle make transport a breeze

Reviews

Perfect carry-on rack
Exactly what I needed. I previously owned an older generation. This one is lighter and well thought through. My only complaint is that the wheels are too small.

Game Changer
Finally built the right playback setup that I have been wanting for years! The case fits everything that I need inside of it.
Toured all over the world with this
Perfect for a laptop and audio interface setup. Very secure and checked this in more than 30 times on flights touring America and Europe with no issues. Also can fit easily in overhead compartments. Protects everything well!

There are cheaper options, but if you're a professional musician there's no reason to risk 3k worth of gear to save a tiny bit.
Love My SKB Laptop Case
I had the original SKB Laptop Case. It was about 5lbs heavier and was not waterproof. I loved that I could fit my Akai APC MKii where a laptop goes. This updated version, is lighter, waterproof, has inserts on each side for easy lifting and is a very sleek design. The new design width is more narrow, but, the APC still fits! My only complaint is that the handle extension is short. It's not even standard suitcase extension. I'm a 5'2 1/2, power walker. In the beginning, my foot frequently hit the back of the case, because the case is so close to me. When I turn a corner, it tips over easy as well. My husband is 5'11 and says a guy will hate this case. Overall, as with anything in life that you love and care about, you make it WORK! I've adjusted to the short extension and I make wider turns. I LOVE it!

Way better than the previous version!! Nice work SKB!
Just got back from using this case for the first time, used it to transport an interface and two Sennheiser wireless transmitters (for in-ears) on a plane.
We had the previous version of this case and the Sennheisers wouldn't fit in it! Not SKBs fault, Sennheiser made their rack ears with a ridiculously large metal flange sticking out the front for no reason. Anyway, long story short, the Sennheisers fit just fine in this new SKB case because the doors (which are removable unlike the last version) have recessed cavities (unlike the last version).
Everything else about this case feels go so far. The wheels roll nice and smooth (the old case had some issues with the wheels), handle retracts/extends smoothly. I guess the only tiny complaint would be the length of the pull-out handle. It's a good 6 inches shorter than the handle on the old version.
Other than that, it's a great case and it fits perfectly in the overhead bins (at least on Southwest).
I'm bummed they didn't get it right on the first try, but at least SKB went back to the drawing board and made a bunch of improvements over the last model.
