A Standard Approach to an Iconic Guitar

When you’re ready to experience quintessential Fender design and playability, look no further than the Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS. Built with the player in mind, the standard design allows beginners and aficionados alike to experience essential Fender features that make the brand’s guitars the first choice of so many Sweetwater guitarists. With a satin-finished and time-tested modern C-shaped neck and a 9.5-inch-radius Indian laurel fingerboard, this guitar is immensely comfortable for both chords and individually fretted notes. The Standard Single-coil Strat pickups offer the iconic snappy tone, while a high-output Standard Ceramic Humbucker lends itself to a more aggressive modern sound. Achieve patented Strat vibrato and dynamic versatility with the onboard 2-point synchronized tremolo system, complete with even tension that is easy to use and stays in tune. Whether you’re buying your first guitar or looking to add some Strat sparkle to your collection, the Standard Stratocaster offers all the playability, tonality, and style a Fender guitar can provide.

Tried-and-true design

The Fender Stratocaster is one of the most widely recognized and popular electric guitar designs worldwide. Its S-shaped body features dual cutaways for easy fretboard access, and its sleek tapered edges are comfortable for any player. This Standard Stratocaster is a no-frills representation of that legacy, capturing the beloved style and sound in one approachable instrument.

The best of both worlds

With two traditional single-coil pickups and a ceramic humbucker, the Standard Strat HSS offers a spectrum of tonal variety. The Standard Single-coil Strat pickups supply bright, smooth, clean tones that are at home in any genre, and the Standard Ceramic Humbucker can push your amp into crunchier tones or melt faces with gritty high-gain drive. This versatile instrument makes the perfect platform for experimenting with your sound and dialing in your setup. Use it to practice or perform across various styles with multiple techniques.

C-shaped perfection

The Standard Stratocaster's neck sports Fender's much-loved modern C shape. Combined with the 9.5-inch radius of the fretboard, this neck is excellent at reducing tension in your hand. Easy to play, the maple neck fits comfortably in the hand, allowing plenty of room to fret complex chords, pick out simple melodies, or shred through scales. The satin finish is smooth without being tacky, keeping your movements fluid, while the Indian laurel fretboard adds a splash of darkness to the guitar’s aesthetic.

Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Features:

  • Standard design offers Fender style with essential Stratocaster playability and features
  • Satin-finished modern C maple neck with Indian laurel fingerboard maximizes speed and comfort
  • 9.5-in. fingerboard radius is comfortable, smooth, and accessible
  • Standard Single-coil Strat pickups in the neck and middle positions for iconic snappy tone
  • Standard Ceramic Humbucker in the bridge for searing leads and modern high-output sound
  • 2-point synchronized tremolo system is easy to use and stays in tune

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While Certified Open Box items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

This is an excellent guitar!!!! Please read if you have any doubts!!!
Don't let the "Made in Indonesia" label fool you—this is not a rebranded Squier. This is a real Fender, and it plays every bit as well as the made-in-Mexico Standards I've owned in the past. The build quality is solid, the tone is classic Strat, and it feels great in the hands.

A couple of welcome updates include the two-point tremolo and block saddles, which add to both the tuning stability and the overall feel of the guitar. The only thing I'd change is the 21-fret neck—I'd prefer 22—but it's far from a deal breaker.

All in all, this is a fantastic guitar that punches well above its price point. Sleek, reliable, and a total workhorse.
impressed
Very nice. I was sceptical because of the reviews I have seen. I found no sharp frets, no dead spots, action just right, intonation right on. Good time, humbucker nice and crunchy single coils nice sparkly and has that quack if you want it. Everything a strat should be.
It is routed HSH so you can change it to a HH strat if you want. And very nice fret board .
Needed a go between and got more
I got this guitar to be a go between while I modded another one I have. After doing the setup and plugging this in, I realized I got more than what I was looking for. With just a few tweaks of the bridge and adjusting the truss, this guitar feels and plays like a dream.

Recommended for anyone looking for versatile playability (Is that actually a word?) in a guitar. Been playing 36 years and played many guitars. This is the first Fender I've ever owned and I love it. Absolutely perfect without the monster price tag.
Music background: Played guitar over 36 years
Good tone
In my first review I see that I actually wrote time
I meant good tone. I also didn't mention that to her trem is great as well. I've had the guitar a while now and still haven't changed the bridge pickup yet. Probably will but it sounds fine. I have a JB ready to put in it.
A good solid strat
Ordered this on an open box special. Was attracted to it for the 43mm nut width combined with the 9.5 inch fretboard radius. Checked the frets right out of the box and they were level all the way down the fretboard. No sharp fret ends either. Played great right out of the box. Pickups sound great. No complaints on this guitar at all. It's a good solid strat and I'm really enjoying playing it.

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them! So, whether you’re looking for your first axe or a Custom Shop creation, make sure to give your Sweetwater Sales Engineer a call at (800) 222-4700.
