The Fender Player Series Stratocaster

The Fender Stratocaster is considered by many guitarists at Sweetwater to be the classic solidbody electric guitar. Introduced in 1954, the Stratocaster has flaunted its svelte body curves, tonal dexterity, and expressive vibrato in the capable hands of guitarists cross-genre. At once a working musician's axe and cultural icon, the Fender Player Series Stratocaster takes the grand tradition into the future with a fast-action 22-fret maple neck, vibrant vintage-inspired finishes, and three Player Series Alnico 5 Strat pickups that deliver all the legendary spank and sparkle you expect from a Strat.

Fender's Player Series: vintage vibe, modern edge

For their new Player Series guitars, Fender went back to the drawing board with updated radii for more historically accurate body shapes, new vintage-inspired finishes, and a classic logo that harkens back to the Fenders of yesteryear. But these smooth-playing instruments also look to the future with modern enhancements that include 22 fret necks, upgraded bridges for better sustain, and new Alnico 5 pickups that crank out legendary Fender tone by the boatload.

The timeless classic, with Player Series upgrades

Though the original Stratocaster was first introduced more than 60 years ago, it's unquestionably more popular now than ever. The Fender Player Stratocaster combines the guitar's sleek, elegant lines with the perfect blend of vintage and modern features. You start with the classic comfort-contoured alder body with a gloss polyester finish, then add a 3-ply parchment pickguard and a trio of Player Series Alnico 5 Strat single-coil pickups. The Stratocaster's original master volume plus two tone pot configuration left the bridge pickup without a tone control; but in the Fender Player Series Strat, Tone 1 operates on both the neck and middle pickups, while Tone 2 is dedicated to the bridge pickup.

The trademark Stratocaster sound

Leo Fender designed the original Stratocaster with three single-coil pickups, enabling it to produce sounds that no other guitar could — particularly once players discovered they could lodge the 3-position blade switch in those in-between positions to access polarity-reversed neck/middle and bridge/middle pickup combinations that produced what is affectionately called the Strat "quack." The Fender Player Stratocaster comes with three sweet-sounding single-coil pickups selected by a modern, 5-position blade switch, making it easy to nail those glassy Strat sounds with a flick of the switch.

Fast-playing modern C-shaped maple neck

In keeping with contemporary player preferences, the Fender Player Stratocaster sports a comfortable modern C shape maple neck and a 9.5"-radius fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets. The neck is finished with a smooth satin polyurethane for a sleek, fast feel. With its sleek body contours and highly playable neck, it's no wonder that the Fender Stratocaster has remained one of the most popular guitars on the planet for decades.

Fender Player Series Stratocaster Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Comfort-contoured alder body, gloss polyester finish
  • Maple, modern "C"-shaped neck (satin polyurethane finish)
  • 9.5-inch-radius fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets
  • 3 Player Series Alnico 5 Strat single-coil pickups
  • Fender 2-point "Synchronized Tremolo" floating vibrato bridge/tailpiece
  • Fender standard cast/sealed tuning machines
  • Synthetic bone nut, width: 1.650 inches
  • 25.5-inch scale length
  • Chrome hardware

Top Quality Strat

I was wanting a nice Fender Stratocaster specifically to put a set of Fender Custom Shop Fat 60's pickups into. I had been looking at the Buttercream with maple fingerboard for some time. The basic Player series Stratocaster is a great "everything you need, and nothing you don't" guitar. It came properly set up and intonated, with no flaws whatsoever. I highly recommend this Fender model. To my elated surprise, the pictures online didn't show the magnificently flamed neck on the one I picked out. (See attached photo) Every once in a while you just get lucky I guess! Many thanks to my sales engineer, Jim Ridings, and the rest of the Sweetwater team for another perfect purchase experience.

Just great!!!!!

I've had time to compare my new Player Strat and my Am Standard. The trem/bridge on the Player is a little different from the US one, but not to the point of being objectionable. The trem itself works great (floating). The action is very fast (and I can get it even faster, but I got bored during the setup). The feel is fantastic, pretty much identical to the US one. The string tree is a bit basic; I may replace it, but it is functional. The nut is fine, frets are very nice. It seems a tad heavier than the US, feels great while standing. The sound is really nice. Neck PU is very expressive with some gain. Will not change the PUs. $1100 with a case. Well, well, worth it. A great guitar — a great Strat!

My teenage dream guitar

Took lessons 55 years ago on a cheap guitar that had to be tuned with pliers and the strings wouldn't touch the fret board without enough pressure to cut my fingers. Finally decided it was time to buy the guitar that was always coveted.

Sales engineer Todd Kitchen was terrific in going through the purchasing process and more importantly, encouraging me that 65 was not too old to shred.

Zero buyer's regret. I love my buttercream Strat and being able to say it's mine. Just wish it had come to me back in the late 60s and I could actually play it!

Great Strat

Purchased the Player Stratocaster in Buttercream and ordered a bone nut upgrade and had it Plek'd. The guitar looks and plays great. The pickups sound nice and there really isn't a bad thing to say. It's a really nice Strat.

Shocked to say the least.

First I want to say, I've owned American professional strats, and an American artist series.
I had purchased 2 American pro 2 strats from sweetwater... Both had issues out of the box, so I returned (not as easy as they make it sound)
After a while I decided to order this less expensive MIM model, and throw in a YJM loaded pickguard... Mainly because I want a YJB signature, but I'm not sure if I'd like the scalloped neck, and sweetwater isn't as kind about returns as they claim, unfortunately.
But upon receiving this buttercream beauty, I was shocked. I honestly see no downgrade from the American pro strat, with exception of 3 things...
1. No contour to the heal... But that's fine, I'm used to the strat block heal.
2. No s switch... But honestly, that wasn't really my thing anyway.
3. No case (but let's be honest, those are never free, they are bundled in and called free).

I love this guitar so much I'm tempted to buy another to put the YJM in, as this sounds and plays great.

In a blind test I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and an American model. It's just a great guitar.
