The EJ Strat!

Very few musical artists are ever able to achieve a true signature style — a sometimes undefinable sound that makes comparisons to other musicians impossible. But Texas guitarist Eric Johnson comes as close as any musician from the past 25 years. Eric is also known for his perfectionism and dedicated search for an ultimate guitar. Now, Fender has released the long-awaited Eric Johnson Signature Model Stratocaster guitar. The brainchild of Johnson himself, this new model is designed with Eric's own personal features and preferences, and it is made possible because of his expressed desire to give something back to the collectors, players, and fans who have supported him throughout his career.

Made with the finest woods available

The Eric Johnson Signature Model Fender Stratocaster guitar is built from some of the finest materials available. The light 2-piece alder body is dressed in a very thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, and the 1-piece quartersawn maple neck sports a 12-inch fingerboard radius, 21 highly polished frets, and a soft V-shaped neck profile.

Custom pickups wound to Eric's specifications

Additional features on the Eric Johnson Strat include staggered vintage-style machine heads (thus eliminating the need for a string tree), custom pickups with countersink screws that are wound to Eric's specifications, and a highly contoured body and neck.

Vintage tremolo and '57-style features

The Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster comes with a parchment '57-style pickguard, a 5-way pickup switch, master volume, neck tone, and bridge tone controls, and a vintage tremolo with five tremolo springs.

Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster Features:

  • 1-piece quartersawn soft V-shaped maple neck with vintage tint
  • 2-piece deep-contoured '57-style lightweight alder body
  • 12-inch radius fingerboard
  • Height-staggered vintage-style tuners eliminate the need for string trees
  • Vintage tremolo with silver-painted block and '57-style string recess
  • 5 tremolo springs and no-back tremolo cover plate
  • Deluxe blonde hardshell case included with black ends, strap, and cable
  • White blonde color with nitrocellulose finish
  • 21 highly polished medium-jumbo frets
  • 1-ply parchment pickguard
  • 25.5-inch scale length

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While Certified Open Box items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Reviews

EJ Stratocaster
Great strat! All the specs I was looking for. The soft V neck is amazing especially for blues playing. Would definitely recommend. Thanks to Jeff Weinstein and Sweetwater!
Best Strat I've ever owned
The 12" neck radius definitely makes this Strat one of a kind. As far as it being a '57 reissue..well..they certainly didn't have that feature, but it sounds amazing, and I had mine Pleked which allows it to have a super low action. I only wish it had 22 frets, but that's nit picking. Thanks to my sales engineer Codie Priester for the great service. Awesome axe.
Music background: Professional Musician
The best Stratocaster I ever touched.
This is basically a 57 reissue with Eric Johnson's tweaks on it. If you have ever watched Eric live you know he likes to play a lot of Hendrix songs, and he sounds like the record live not like Jimi live. So it goes to figure that his pickups would sound very Hendrixy with modern Noise Canceling. This guitar is just over the top perfect and if you are looking for the vintage experience with a modern twist here it is.
This thing has Custom Shop quality at Factory Production pricing, I wont ever be buying any other models from now on. So many times you buy a Strat with a list of replacement parts you are going to need like Texas Specials or locking tuners. For me this Strat was perfect out of the box and I only installed a backplate because I like them and strap locks. It has cloth wiring and the pickups are awesome. This is all you need.
Just what I’ve been looking for
Magnificent instrument, worth every penny!
Magnificent!
I grew up on Strats. My first guitar I bought on my own was a 1975 Blonde. After it was stolen in the mid-80s, I got a 1987 American Standard. After that, it was a 50th Anniversary model in 2004.

A few years ago, I finally got into Les Pauls. Got a couple of great ones, and kind of neglected Strats. On a whim, I decided to start up with Strats again. I was wanting one with a lacquer finish. I got the EJ, and it is now my fave guitar. It's not just a great Strat. It is a great guitar. Period. Quality is up there with my Gibson R8s.

The EJ pickups are stellar. Just be aware that it has a rather thick neck. I like 'em, but it gives a Strat a tight feel. Very exacting for the player.

I'm actually thinking of getting the rosewood version. It's that good. Good enough to have two. Very musical instrument, to be sure.

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them! So, whether you’re looking for your first axe or a Custom Shop creation, make sure to give your Sweetwater Sales Engineer a call at (800) 222-4700.
