Taking S-style Performance into the Stratosphere

Refined, reshaped, and revoiced for modern performing musicians, the Fender American Ultra II Stratocaster is a thoroughly 21st-century reimagining of Leo Fender’s iconic double-cut creation. From the second you sling up this Strat, you’ll enjoy enhanced playing comfort thanks to the select alder body’s tapered neck heel and deep neck joint contour. Naturally, these changes grant effortless access to the Modern D quartersawn maple neck’s compound-radius fingerboard, which boasts Ultra Rolled edges for a seamless feel against your palm. Three Ultra II Noiseless Vintage Stratocaster pickups capture the chiming highs, round lows, and snappy attack that have served as the Strat’s sonic calling card since 1954, all without a hint of single-coil hum. Plus, Fender’s S-1 switch upgrades the Strat’s standard 5-position switch by injecting your neck pickup into positions one and two. You also get a host of high-performance hardware appointments, including Fender’s 2-point American Ultra Synchronized tremolo, a cold-rolled steel trem block, Deluxe locking tuners, and a stylish 1-ply aluminum pickguard. Cutting-edge and classic all at once, the Fender American Ultra II Stratocaster advances the S-style formula to bold new heights without compromising the model’s vintage soul.

Ultra-high-performance quartersawn maple neck

Fender’s American Ultra II series is all about superb 6-string performance, and nowhere is that more apparent than in this Stratocaster’s easy-playing neck. A comfortably slim Modern D maple neck lays the foundation, topped with a compound-radius fingerboard that steadily flattens out from a 10-inch radius on the low frets to a 14-inch radius up high. This design ensures both easy, natural-feeling chording on the lower half of the neck and effortless multi-step bends up high without a hint of fret-out. To further aid your fleet-fingered endeavors, this guitar’s neck is topped off with Ultra Rolled edges and an Ultra Satin finish, resulting in a nearly frictionless feel against your palm.

Old-school Strat sonics with zero hum

From whisper-quiet cleans to screaming gain-laden leads, Fender’s Ultra II Noiseless Vintage Strat pickups can do it all without a hint of hum. These pickups sing with classic single-coil Stratocaster sonics, offering modern noise-free performance and uncompromisingly vintage-tinged tone. Bell-like highs, round lows, quacky in-between positions — you get the picture. What’s more, this Strat comes equipped with Fender’s S-1 switching system; it allows you to integrate the neck pickup into the 5-way switch’s one and two positions, unlocking a full-blast setting with all three pickups enabled and a Tele-style neck/bridge configuration.

Limitless access to all 22 frets

Sculpted to perfection, the Fender American Ultra II Stratocaster sports expertly engineered contours that smooth over the Strat’s traditionally chunky neck joint. This guitar’s tapered neck heel pairs with a deeply sculpted body contour at the neck joint, resulting in a nearly seamless transition from neck to body. Moreover, Sweetwater’s technique-heavy guitarists appreciate how these cuts ensure unfettered access to all 22 frets, with no need to twist and contort your fretting hand when laying down licks and solos on the highest notes.

Fender American Ultra II Stratocaster Features:

  • A high-performance reimagining of Fender’s iconic Stratocaster guitar
  • Select alder body, complete with deep neck joint body contour and sculpted neck heel for limitless upper-fret access
  • Fast-playing quartersawn maple neck in Fender’s comfortable Modern D profile
  • 10-in. to 14-in. compound-radius ebony fingerboard offers effortless low-position chording and seamless upper-register bends
  • Luminlay side dots ensure you’re always in the right position, even on the darkest of stages
  • Ultra Rolled fingerboard edges are smooth and sleek against your hand
  • Ultra II Noiseless Vintage Strat pickups capture the sonics of an old-school Strat with zero hum
  • S-1 switch injects your neck pickup into positions 1 and 2
  • 2-point American Ultra Synchronized tremolo with polished stainless steel block saddles and cold-rolled steel block allows for expressive pitch-bending possibilities
  • Rock-solid short-post locking tuners for fast and efficient string changes
  • Stylish anodized aluminum pickguard

What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

Note: While Certified Open Box items from Fender do not include the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation warranty, you can shop with confidence knowing that this item is backed and covered by Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items

Reviews

SIMPLY PERFECT
I've had quite a few strats over the last 22 years or so of playing. This is one of those guitars that as soon as it hits my hands it feels like I've known it all my life. Literally to a gig out of the box and was perfection. I still have yet to have someone ask about the Texas Tea finish. If a stage light hits it, a gold color explodes.

My only advice after A/Bing both is going with the classic SSS config. HSS just didn't sound like a real strat to me. Especially if you're a jazz, blues, soul player. No business putting a humbucker on this unless your growling heavy rock, in which case, there are probably other guitars that suit your needs.

This thing is just amazing. I have not a single negative to right here.
Music background: Gigging musician, teacher, friend.
Great Guitar!
I want to start this review by giving special thanks to Skyler and Joey at Sweetwater for working with me to get this guitar. Customer service at Sweetwater is by far the best I have ever experienced. These guys really go through extra effort to ensure customer satisfaction.

I purchased this exactly one week ago. It took me this long to write a review because every spare moment I had I was playing it instead of writing the review, ha ha! The Texas Tea finish is fabulous and the aluminum pick guard really compliments it. Hardware is top shelf. Sounds wonderful, and plays well. Very impressive for a production model. Fender really tricked this out for the 70th anniversary and with proper care it will be passed down through generations.

If you are on the fence about one just go for it. I did and have no regrets.

Why four and a half stars instead of five? Simply because of the annoying lacquer finish on the fret ends and the ends of the nut (if you are a Fender guy you know what I mean). It does no harm and does not affect the playability at all, but it's just not a pretty as it could be.

Cheers!

It’s impossible to imagine a world without Fender guitars, and if you’re like many of the guitarists at Sweetwater, then Fender not only made the first guitar you ever bought " they made the last one too! From building the first mass-produced solidbody electric guitars and basses in the 1950s to creating some of the most influential amplifier designs in history, it’s no wonder why Fender is one of the biggest names in the business. As one of the world’s largest Fender dealers, we have countless guitars, basses, amps, effects pedals, and accessories in stock and ready to ship, whenever you need them. We’re always getting our hands on their latest creations, and there’s nothing we love more than to tell our customers all about them! So, whether you’re looking for your first axe or a Custom Shop creation, make sure to give your Sweetwater Sales Engineer a call at (800) 222-4700.
