Reissued and Ready to Sing

As part of the NUX Reissue series, the Steel Singer Drive pedal captures the lauded tones of one of California’s most-revered builders of boutique amps. At its core, the Steel Singer boasts NUX’s Pure Analog Circuit, and Sweetwater’s road warriors are singing its praises, not just for the pedal’s flexibility but the seamless highs and saccharine midrange sonics that define its fiery, natural tube-style overdrive. Its mini-size form factor makes pain-free work of integrating the Steel Singer into myriad studio and stage rigs while amplifying its ease of incorporation in your setup as a primary overdrive or a supplement for your setup. With true bypass hardware switching and a rugged tour-grade chassis, the NUX Steel Singer Drive pedal is your ticket to bringing time-honored tones into your cutting-edge sound.

Reviews

Love it--hope it holds up
Never played a SSS. But regardless of how close it is, this thing sounds and feels great. Definitely a unique drive pedal, covers ground that none of my others drives quite touch.

It's quite compressed in character, which is fantastic for flowing, voice-like lead lines. Engaging the pedal seems to engage a high pass filter, but it doesn't sound thin somehow. Very mid-centric, but again, very tastefully done. Surprising clarity on double stops/chords.

The "filter" control is interesting, feels...different than your typical tone knob. Not sure if it turns a HPF up/down or if it moves the center frequency of the filter as you rotate the knob. In any case, I tend to keep it around 2-3 o'clock depending how much drive. Any lower is a bit dull for me. It can get quite bright at the other extreme.

It is truly and overdrive pedal, not an amp sim--you won't get crystal clear cleans even with the drive all the way down, though it does sound fantastic. Also worth noting that the output isn't all that high--I do wish it had a little more to make it more usable as a boost at lower gain settings. Currently, I dime the Volume, then adjust the Gain to get my preferred boost level.

The only reason I took off half a star is the build quality. The knobs feel cheap and turn almost too easily. Additionally, the potentiometer shafts seems to be made of plastic(?) I can feel them flexing if you apply any pressure to the knobs. Makes me worry about its longevity.

The footswitch feels sturdy, but cheap--definitely not smooth. Hopefully it will loosen up with use.

Other than these issues, build is nice, housing looks and feels good/sturdy.
