Amazingly Versatile Dynamic Mic

Onstage and in your studio, the Aston Microphones Stealth active dynamic microphone is the very definition of a workhorse. This ingenious mic features active and passive modes, depending on whether or not phantom power is present. In passive mode, Stealth performs as a high-quality dynamic mic should, offering impressive SPL handling and a rich, full sound. Engage phantom power, and the built-in Class A mic pre enhances sensitivity and maximizes gain before feedback. And with four different voicing settings available, you'll be able to tailor the Aston Microphones Stealth for any sound source.

Enjoy the flexibility of an active dynamic mic

The Aston Microphones Stealth blurs the line between dynamic and condenser microphones. In passive mode, it's a high-quality cardioid dynamic mic that excels on guitar amps and drums. Engaging phantom power turns on active dynamic mode, which utilizes a built-in Class A preamp to raise the input sensitivity. You're rewarded with more gain before feedback, which Sweetwater loves for live sound applications.

Tried-and-true performance

With an innovative design such as the Stealth microphone, Aston Microphones wanted to make sure they were on the right track. They enlisted the help of more than 90 top engineers, producers, and artists throughout Stealth's development process. The result is a versatile microphone that exceeds the expectations of real working pros in a wide range of stage and studio applications.

Built for reliable workhorse performance

Beyond the versatility of its active/passive modes, the Stealth microphone is built to make day-to-day operation enjoyable. It comes with a quick-release stand mount, making it easier to swap mics and stands during a session. The Stealth mic also features a unique Sorbothane internal shockmount, helping to prevent unwanted rumble in your signal.

Four voicing modes enhance sonic performance

Four different voicing modes help you optimize Stealth's response for guitars, vocals, and more. Aston explains that these aren't EQ filters, which can make professional post-processing difficult, if not impossible. These voicing modes utilize "contour networks," which essentially reinforce key frequencies without sonically destructive filter circuits. The result is much lower phase distortion than you'd typically encounter with most pre-EQ designs.

Aston Microphones Stealth Active Dynamic Microphone Features:

  • Active/passive dynamic mic with 4 voicing modes
  • Built-in Class A preamp increases mic sensitivity in active mode (requires phantom power)
  • Auto-detects 48V phantom power to engage active mode
  • 4 different voicings optimize mic response: Vocal 1, Vocal 2, Guitar, and Dark
  • Internal Sorbothane shockmount minimizes low-end rumble
  • Includes quick-release mic stand mount
  • Purple LED phantom power indicator can be disabled for Stealth mode
  • Capsule is enclosed in a stainless steel Faraday cage for maximum interference rejection

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

SM7B killer

Let's get this out of the way early - this think bloody rocks! So much so that I sold my SM7B (and my Shure KSM8) within a few weeks of getting my hands on a Stealth. For male vocals, and really any vocals, it really is amazing - pairs well with any decent mic preamp, and whether you're using the onboard amp or not, it always sounds great. And such versatility, with the four different tones - don't even think about this one, at the price it's being sold for it is an absolute steal - made in the UK too! Just get one, you will not be disappointed. You might even put the old SM7B back in the cupboard (or up for sale, as I did).

Incredible sound but physics sucks.

It is a long and heavy mic at 689.46g (24 ozs). The bayonet-style mount only exacerbates the issues with this design. The center of gravity is just below the Log on the Mic. So all of that length works as a lever on the mount. It also increases strain on the boom if you are using one. Add to that the traffic jam at the aft of the Mic. The XLR and Bayonet are side by side. This forces you to use only about 110 degrees of this 180-degree mount.

So Aston, if you want me to test a mount that clamps around the center of the Mic, I would love to.

Having said all that, this Mic loves my voice. It has excellent sensitivity. The V1 setting is great for most of my usage, but the D(ark) mode is a welcome feature. The V2 and G moods would be great for Sopranos or acoustic guitar, I would think.

I am not sending this back, but I want to 3D print a custom mount. Since the Aston Stealth has an internal shock mount, I should be able to go low profile. Of course, I don't have a 3d Printer... I think our library does.

Awesome Mic

I was sold on the Aston Stealth Microphone after viewing the video. The presenter was candid and genuinely enthusiastic. I appreciate the Aston creativity and willingness to "think (and act) outside the box". Being primarily an instrumentalist, I am self-conscious about my voice so I am impressed with the way that the Aston Stealth Microphone makes me sound which in-turn boosts my confidence in singing. In my opinion it is big, but feels like a powerhouse of quality. I perceive that my audience credits me with having more professionalism than I think I deserve because of the quality of my gear and this microphone certainly carries it's load to that end.

The secret weapon

I haven't tested it thoroughly yet, but this is a big hitter. Really excellent on vocals. Super smooth all through the mids and highs, and crystal clear. There's a bit of a tradeoff between the active and passive modes. With phantom power there's a fairly exaggerated bass response on the V1 setting, maybe up to about 250-300 Hz, so you have to pull back a little from the mic. Without phantom the mic sounds incredible all the way across the spectrum, but the signal is fairly weak. I was recording into a Focusrite Clarett interface, which doesn't provide a lot of preamp gain anyway. But with the gain turned all the way up, I still had to boost the signal inside Pro Tools by about 21 dB in order to get it to a good listening level. Basically, if you want to get good passive signal out of this mic, you'll need a preamp that can give you 70-75 dB of clean gain. The good news is that I could still barely hear the noise floor even with 21 dB of boost in the DAW, so it's a really quiet mic.

I might add more later when I hear it on a guitar cabinet. But this is going to end up being a secret weapon for a lot of people. Anybody doing a podcast should try it out for sure. If you're getting tired of hearing the RE20 and SM7 for decades on end, get one of these. It does the same job but with more detail, and it does a whole lot of other jobs besides.
