The Next Stage of Nord

Since Hans Nordelius developed the first dynamic-playback digital drum pad in 1983, Nord has remained at the forefront of sonic innovation, handcrafting every keyboard in their Stockholm-based operation while maintaining tradition through meticulous research and design. With the Stage 4, they’ve once again raised the bar on lightweight stage pianos that retain sonic scope and aural fidelity and provide unmatched nuance and control for dialing in a suite of versatile tones. From FM and Virtual Analog synthesis via the Wave 2 Synth Engine to the doubled sample memory providing even greater quality of their award-winning piano, organ, and EP emulations, the triple-sensor keybed feels every piece of each note. Robust effects can be assigned per layer, with new physical drawbars, LED indicators, and the advanced MIDI control of the Extern mode granting unparalleled control over the Stage 4’s impressive array of sonic sculpting options, hand-delivering keyboard pros and synthesists alike at Sweetwater an incredible sandbox of music production.

Nuanced sound with expert emulation

In addition to Nord’s award-winning B-3, pipe organ, and Farfisa patches, the Stage 4 introduces a new B-3 bass mode, in addition to Model 122 Vintage Rotary Speaker modeling that includes standard and close microphone positions. Its doubled sample memory allows for more instruments to be included at even greater fidelity, with a new, enhanced collection of upright, grand, and electric pianos provided via the Nord Piano Library. The powerful Wave 2 Synth Engine plays host to sample-based, Virtual Analog, and FM synthesis modes, as well as a collection of guitars, strings, choirs, and much more that can now be implemented across three independently manageable synth layers. Plus, the already-advanced arpeggiator is outfitted with brand-new gate, polyphonic, and pattern modes to supplement your sound with highly detailed and customizable rhythmic opportunities.

Sculpt and shape your tones

A reimagined panel design is also present with the Stage 4, armed with physical drawbars and LED faders for each layer. The panel provides plenty of real-time feedback and flexibility in creating, designing, saving, and recalling patches as you need them. The triple-sensor keybed provides lifelike sensitivity with fully weighted keys, offering unparalleled expression across every instrument. New features like the dynamic compression and unison mode are accompanied by a freshly developed variation on their hallmark reverb, delay, amplifier, and modulation effects, including spring, cathedral, and booth reverb, as well as a new spin effect and space delay.

Real-time, reactive control

The Nord Stage 4 brings physical drawbars and LED indicators to its interface, facilitating reactive design of organ patches and real-time feedback as you dial in your sound. With the new Extern mode, deep and precise MIDI control allows the Stage 4 to integrate into any arrangement seamlessly. The Tru-Vibrato, Unison, and Round Robin modes have been bolstered with enhanced samples to provide even greater flexibility in cultivating and crafting your sound, with plenty of room for aftertouch.

Nord Stage 4 Features:

  • Digital stage piano with piano, organ, and synthesizer sound engines
  • Fast, smooth feel from the 88-key fully weighted, triple-sensor keybed
  • 2 OLED displays for Program and Synth sections provide clear navigation and operation
  • Seamless Transitions between program changes eliminate interruptions in your sound when changing patches
  • Doubled sample memory to add your favorite instrument sounds from the Nord Piano Library with even greater fidelity and range than before
  • 3 synth layers can be independently managed and attenuated for complex patch construction with the Wave 2 Synth Engine
  • Dedicated per-layer FX control allows for increased variety and depth of texturizing tools
  • Expanded instrument selection includes electric pianos, strings, voices, folk instruments, and more
  • Extern Section will enable you to integrate external MIDI sound modules as if they were part of the keyboard
  • LED indicators accompany physical drawbars for immersive and informative real-time patch development for organ sounds
  • Supports Program Changes from external footswitch (not included)
What is Certified Open Box Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call "Certified Open Box" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

Certified Open Box (also known as a demo) means we’ve had it out of the box for our YouTube channel, displayed at events, tested in our studio, or maybe it was in a customer’s hands for a few days and isn’t ‘factory fresh’ as a result. Every Certified Open Box item we sell has Sweetwater’s 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty and has been tested and verified up to ‘new’ specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it’s in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Certified Open Box item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!

Reviews

Oh yeah baby!
Where the nord is the Lord is, period. This beautiful red machine is the real deal man, yes it's pricey and the cost is very high but you're getting the best from the best, Nord. Quality & construction of this unit is nothing but amazing and it's built to last for many years to come. I can honestly say that the NS4 has replaced my Montage M7 which is a beautiful instrument aswell and now my NS4 is the center of my studio. By the way S/O to my sales engineer Aaron Cornelio for helping me out with this purchase. 10/10
Music background: Worship
Impressive Sound Quality and Built Like a Tank.
This is my second review. I received this keyboard two days ago, but unfortunately, I had to return it due to a damaged box and missing power cord and user manual. Thankfully, my Sweetwater rep, Erik Bothwell, arranged for a replacement, and I received it within just 48 hours. This time, it arrived double-boxed and included a soft carrying bag for free, which was also on sale.

So far, I'm enjoying the machine. It's taking me a bit of time to get used to its workflow, but I really like it—though not quite as much as my Yamaha Montage M8x. One issue to note: the manufacturer's shipping box is quite flimsy, so I highly recommend asking Sweetwater to double-box it when you order.

The only downside is that this keyboard is overpriced!
Not a Fatar fan, but overall - Freaking wow!!
I'm a huge Yamaha fan and currently have a YC73, CP88 and P515. Look, Yamaha wins the keybed war vs anything I've ever played with a Fatar keybed. So I wasn't blown away by the Nord Stage 4 feel during first hour of playing. Keybed feels slightly dull compared to all my Yamahas. But….
….Once you bond your Avatar tail thingy with this flying red dragon of a piano— it is pure freaking magic! The keybed is forgiven at that point! It sounds that good!! I'm Bonded for life! The Nord keybed has a triple sensor so it's very responsive. It responds best to rhythmic / synth / electric piano. But it feels slightly dull with slower acoustic piano pieces. Ask me in a couple months - I'm sure it will grow on me.

The ability to mix two organs, two pianos, and 3 synths allows some amazingly complex (or simple) sounds. The new layout makes mixing these sounds very intuitive. I got lost for hours just in the presets. The new volume sliders for each part are genius. Separate effects for each part and physical draw bars on the 88 - well done Nord!

I never played a Nord stage 3 (or any Nord) but the Nord Stage 4 interface is simple to use. From what I can tell, it's an improvement over the Stage 3. It wins hands down against the Yamaha stage piano interface (and I love the Yamahas).
Plug this thing into some 6in JBL monitors with a sub and thank me later.

If Stage 4 price turns you off, I still highly recommend the Yamaha YC or CP series. The Yamaha acoustics /EPs / Organs (on YC) are lovely. But if you can swing it, the new Nord Stage 4 is worth every penny.
Marriage pro tip: Look at real grand pianos in a piano store first. After sticker shock, the Nord can be the 'budget' option!
Shout to Georg Deng and Sweetwater excellent service!
Music background: Total amateur home-taught tinkerer. Played in church etc.
Nord stage 4
Much better than I expected!!
