An Ensemble of Opportunity, Reborn!

Like most synth strings from the disco-fueled fever of 1970s Studio 54 panache, Solina String Ensemble’s sonic array carefully threads the needle between delightfully cheesy and vintage character. Behringer has faithfully and carefully mastered the art of emulation and, like its predecessor, the Solina String Ensemble is an all-analog synthesizer that packs all the fixin’s of a vaunted heritage synth into a flexible module with even more possibilities than ever before. From its six instrument presets to the iconic, multi-stage bucket brigade device ensemble chorus and Small Stone-style phase shifter, texture defines the Solina’s unique voicing. Synth heads at Sweetwater love that the expanded I/O suite gives you even finer control of the lauded synth’s aural faculties. At the same time, classic octave divide-down and voice priority selection means you can experience the sum of Solina String Ensemble’s 49-tone polyphony any way you like.

More than just emulation

As synthesizer technology flourished throughout the ’70s, many contenders emerged with the promise of streamlining and simplifying the songwriting and composition processes that would be otherwise prohibitive to recording string ensembles. Behringer’s Solina String Ensemble takes up the mantle by faithfully capturing the magic of its predecessor with contrabass, cello, viola, violin, trumpet, and horn voicing options and the full suite of 13-tone generation. Fine-tuning, togglable color, and adjustable rate provide immense flexibility in texturizing your tones. Moreover, the multi-stage BBD chorus ensemble and phase shifter allow you to achieve that vaunted, vintage string sound that eschews realism for a classic arrangement that defined so many disco records of yore.

Reimagined connectivity for the modern era

Unlike its ancestor, Behringer’s Solina String Ensemble ditches a keyboard for a more flexible design that retains its analog architecture. MIDI In and Thru ports are accompanied by a host of 1/8-inch jacks, including dedicated trigger and gate outputs, a VCA CV input, and individual I/O for modulation and the phaser. Taken together, Solina’s charming output can integrate easily into your physical setups and sonic arrays. You can even remove its housing to transform it into a Eurorack-compatible module. Sub-octave generation lets you dial in a broad swath of instrumental parts, thanks to the inclusion of the original’s divide-down structure, with modern voice priority selection tools creating more opportunity than ever for carefully constructed compositions.

Behringer Solina String Ensemble Features:

  • Analog architecture provides the iconic sounds of the sought-after synth strings that defined an era of disco and more
  • 49-tone polyphony means rich, lush ensembles and distinctive ‘70s panache
  • Octave divide-down structure and voice priority options provide immense flexibility in tonal scope
  • 6 voicing presets and 13-tone generation accurately capture the unique voicing that made its predecessor such a lauded synth
  • Fine-tune controls, color options, and rate adjustment mean flexible sonics and uncompromised control
  • BBD chorus ensemble and Small Stone-style phase shifter deliver heaps of texture and character across the mix
  • Extensive I/O suite ditches a keyboard for deep integration options, including Gate and Trigger outputs, modulation I/O, phaser I/O, and VCA CV input
  • MIDI implementation includes both In and Thru ports to accommodate use with virtually any arrangement
  • Removable housing transforms the Solina into a Eurorack-compatible module without sacrificing any of its sound-shaping tools or potential

Reviews

Behringer Solina
Phenomenal instrument; true to form. For those who remember the original Solina or ARP String Ensemble, Behringer nailed it with this. Fat, analog string sounds with built in modulation and phase effects.
Pros: fat analog string sounds with built in effects(modulation, phase).
Cons: the only con on this is that Behringer should come out with a keyboard model. This plays great through my Arturia controller.
Music background: Classical piano, synthesizers, guitar, home studio
Behringer Solina String Ensemble does not disappoint!!
YES!! Finally, after many years the Solina Strings Ensemble sound is a reality!! Behringer did a fantastic job on this!! Thank you God and thank you Behringer!! And thank you Sweetwater!!
Behringer Solina String Ensamble

I love the sounds this synth can make!!!! I use it on its own as well as layering it with other synths especially my Mellotron. It adds a depth that can be incredible. I work mostly with atmospheric soundscapes and prog rock and this synth delivers big time. Behringer hit another home run with this little beauty! With a vintage Solina in decent shape going for $ ... Behringer make a quality instrument for a price most people can easily afford.

..... and as ALWAYS - Sweetwater and my Sales Engineer Franko = A+ Service

A tiny orchestra, at your command
OMG, what a great sound. When I play along with songs like Silent Lucidity by Queensryche or Ordinary World by Duran Duran, this Solina can really bring stirring emotions with it's depth and lushness. It mixes so well with the other Behringer synthesizers that I have as well, the model D, the JT-mini, the Pro-VS and the awesome JT-4000. Just an amazing sound and a super addition to anyone's studio.
Music background: Played both bass and guitar with bands. Musical family background.
Nice String Synth
A great little string synth with extras via patching. Nice with a midi keyboard and fun with a sequencer. Just started exploring all it can do. Having fun. Easy to use and great sound.
Music background: Just have loved sysnth and learning music now because of it.
