High Performance Construction and Electronics

The Schecter Sun Valley SS FR-S solidbody electric guitar is a great choice for players looking for a guitar that pushes their technical limits while boasting the features and design to keep up with their every note. The guitar's classic styling recalls some of the best super-style instruments in history. And while an EMG Retro Active humbucking pickup delivers active clarity and passive dynamics, the neck position Sustainiac pickup offers three voices of unending tone. Also, the Schecter Sun Valley SS FR-S's exclusive Hot Rod Floyd Rose tremolo offers precise tuning and pitch control.

Hot-rodded construction

Inspired by souped-up and highly modified rock guitars, the Schecter Sun Valley SS FR-S solidbody electric guitar exudes a no-nonsense, high-performance attitude. It's black pickguard, hardware, and electronics sit on a comfortable S-style mahogany body. A bolt-on hard rock maple neck features a fast Thin-C neck contour and a 24-fret, 14" radius fretboard. And the Sun Valley SS FR-S's neck heel is beautifully contoured, allowing unrestricted access to the guitar's highest frets.

Incredibly powerful electronics

Schecter tapped EMG Pickups and the Sustainiac company to supply the Sun Valley SS FR-S's horsepower. EMG's Retro Active humbucker utilizes a specially designed active preamp system and passive-style coils for a tone that boasts vintage clarity with modern power. The neck-position Sustainiac humbucking pickup effortlessly delivers infinite sustain and thick feedback with a flip of a switch. And a simple-to-use 2-knob control layout works in conjunction with the 3-way blade switch to access a wide variety of tones.

Schecter-exclusive Floyd Rose Trem

Schecter and Floyd rose have partnered to bring you the Floyd Rose Hot Rod double-locking tremolo for a new level of control and stability. Floyd Rose has long been one of the best double-locking tremolo sellers at Sweetwater. And the Hot Rod is a specialized take on their iconic design design that you will only find on select Schecter guitars. The addition of this trem is another appointment that prepares the Sun Valley SS FR-S solidbody electric guitar for your best playing.

Killer guitar, great store

This guitar plays SO well! I have big hands and the fretboard is super comfortable with easy access to the higher frets. Sounds great, the Floyd holds tune really well. The kicker is the Sustainiac—so many cool things can be done with it at any volume. Matte black finish is really unique and nice. John McWhirter was a tremendous help both pre- and post-sale. The Schecter is great and I'm sold on Sweetwater!

Wicked cool guitar

I have owned this guitar for about a month and a half now, and overall I am very happy with it, I love it actually (down below I mention the only draw backs to me). I was eyeing this over the apocolypse with the stain grey (which actually cost a little more) but I went with this because I really liked that matte black with the maple neck contrast way more than that weird greenish grey stain + also this thing is strat body style, which I really like. (and it has a mahogany body I believe, which I hear is great for the type of rock I like to play) The thing is super sexy, I been trying to be super careful not to get pizza grease on her, when I first got it I washed my hands like every time religiously before I touched it, haha now I am getting a little more lax, but still careful. As far as playability, out of the box they sent it to me tuned, playing amazing, it is like butter, I never have owned a guitar or even actually played one that felt like this, for me its super comfortable, no issues at all in standard tuning, no buzzing, amazing intonation, all that stuff... Sounds and feels amazing, got it because of the sustainiac pick ups, they sound cool (I actually use that ring on feature a little less than I thought I would, but I still like having it / it's good for crazy leads with the wammy bar)... The only draw backs / complaint, that is my entirely my fault for not knowing what a floating bridge was before ordering... is that I didn't know about was the pain in the a** it is to tune a floyd rose floating bridge, haha now I know why when I tried to downtune my friends one time without realizing it why they started freaking out saying it took him like 20 mins to tune (after you learn tho it's really only like a few minutes)... you literally need to take a supplied allen wrench and unscrew the nuts on the head you see in the picture, set all the fine tuners the the middle, and then like tune out from in or whatever (for balanced tuning, like how they say to tune drum heads), but if you look up some YouTube videos you will see everyone seems to do it a little different... For down tuning, if you like to change tuning alot... I would not recommend as much if you mess with some crazy down tunes (Like I would try DADADA or like BEBEBE and constantly change tunings on other guitars, and more than like a few strings downtuned is not as great cuz it messes with the floating bridges slant / the intonation, then you would have to mess with the springs to get proper tension which I don't want to do) but I play mostly in drop D (and standard I mess with occasionally) with this and it works great for that... I did find you can "block" the bridge removing that floating back and forth feature, but now that I have learned to tune it and I am use to it, I don't mind having to tune it as much (it seems to hold tune really good too once you get it in, so if you stay in your tuning and not jump around a lot your pretty good). I have yet to change the strings but I think I may soon (hopefully it goes smooth, I got me some mammoth earnie balls to try) Overall for the money, this guitar I am extremely happy with the purchase, Even if I had the option to not have the floating bridge, I think I would still go with it now that I have learned how to tune /use it, because you can do these crazy whammys back and forth (the whammy bar goes both ways, which I didn't know about) Overall this thing sounds amazing, feels amazing, looks amazing (to me, I really like that matte black) I feel like a bad a** rocker playin this thing, I will defiantly be keeping this for a while, I ended up giving away all of my other guitars (trying to be minimalistic), and I only own this, a bass, and an acoustic is all I own now, and it is all I think I will ever need / want. I probably could even get rid of the acoustic now, since I play this way more. Well worth the money.

Speechless!!!

I have had this guitar for a year now and it is always the guitar I seem go to from my wall of ridiculous expensive guitars, I have played for 30 years and quite honestly this is a very special instrument! It can do everything and it inspires more and more every time I play it. If I had to choose 1 guitar in the World of Guitars this would be it for sure! These Pickups are Amazing! Brutal power from the bridge EMG and the sustainiac does things I never thought were possible. They are dead silent when you need that most, and boy the combination is truly special. This Guitar came with size 9 strings from the factory, and it was time to replace my strings again, so I was wondering how a set of 10s would be? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a huge boost in tone, that is why I am writing this review. It really brought out the growl of that EMG. There were some minor tweaks to get the FR Trem to lay flat, I just did a couple turns on the screws on the plate and moved the 2 outer springs to the center making a V pattern and perfection!!!! This brought the action even lower and absolutely "no buzz" anywhere! Also it made the guitar much more stable and seems like I never have to tune it. The neck is super fast, is it a Ibanez = No! But it is more capable of some things because it feels narrower but is slippery as silk. Honestly a guitar in this price point, its worth a LOT more IMO. I'm going to grab another one and store it as a backup. If your on the fence about buying this, you can't go wrong... So Here is the truth about this company for me, I prob have purchased and returned over 10 Schecter guitars, Some were top of the line and I did not like any of them. This one is different! This is the BOSS 429 of Guitars....

Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder FR-S

I have been keeping and eye on Schecter guitars since they were a guitar hot rod shop. They have always done good work. I picked up the demo of the FR-S model with just one little ding in the headstock and it was a steel. Saved close to $100. Anyway, I have been playing guitar for many many years. I was a dedicated Ibanez guy for years. Picked one of these up and loved the sound of the EMG's and the neck is close to what I am used to with Ibanez. Well 3 days in and I love the Schecter super shredder. The fret work/set up is really good with no sharp edges or buz. Sweetwater set the action rite where I wanted it. The sustaniac is AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWesome!!!!!!! I will be buying another in a different color when they get more in stock!

Ridiculously good

I have the FR S version and it"s such a steal. This thing is so fun to play. I installed a killswitch and that paired with the Sustainiac is a blast.
