Swap Between Keys in a Matter of Seconds

Shubb’s Fifth String Capo for banjo offers a more versatile alternative to traditional banjo “railroad spikes,” allowing you to capo your fifth string wherever you please within a matter of seconds. This long-bar version of Shubb’s Fifth String Capo is installed onto your banjo’s neck via a trio of mounting screws, with a range that stretches all the way up to the 13th fret. Sweetwater’s traditional bluegrass players and more adventurous genre-defining banjoists find that this capo is a must-have accessory, making it a breeze to instantly swap into any key, any time you like. And since this capo relies on a lever-based design instead of a standard spring-based operation, muted and partially depressed notes are never an issue. Make the most of your banjo with Shubb’s Fifth String Capo!

Shubb Fifth String Capo Features:

  • Adjustable capo for your banjo’s 5th string, offering a more versatile alternative to traditional “railroad spikes”
  • Installs onto your banjo’s neck via three mounting screws, allowing you to capo your 5th string up to the 13th fret
  • Lever-based design allows you to change notes in a matter of seconds while also defeating the muted notes and partially depressed tones that can sometimes result from spring-based designs
  • Slim low-profile design is both visually and physically unobtrusive

Reviews

Doesn't pull sharp like spikes
The traditionalist will not agree with me, but after using spikes and other 5th string capos, I find this to be accurate, effective and convenient. Other complaints I disagree with is that it is invasive that you need to use two small screws to install it and that it gets in the way. The holes are small and repairable and even playing up the neck, I have no complaint that it gets in the way. It sits next to the 5th string tuner and is much smaller. I did put a rubber pad where it contacts the string. If you insist on doing it exactly like "Earl" and doing spikes....go right ahead. This is faster and more effective.
Music background: 40 year musician.
I love this capo!
This makes it simple to play banjo in any key. In the past I used spikes in the finger board, but still needed to re-tune the G string for certain keys. Now I just move the capo to the desired fret and tighten it.
I installed it myself and I was a little hesitant to drill tiny holes through the binding on the neck. As the instructions suggest, if you aren't confident in your luthier skills, have a professional luthier install it for you.
I have wanted this capo since I saw someone using one years ago. I am very happy I took the leap and bought it.
Music background: I have been playing many different string instruments and all styles of music for over 50 years.
