The White Wolfe Packs Killer Punch

Austin-based singer, songwriter, and axe-slinger Emily Wolfe has captured the attention of guitarists at Sweetwater with her ferocious brand of modern blues-rock music. A tone chaser through and through, Emily’s signature sound is aggressive, fuzz laden, and dripping in reverb and delay — echoing guitar trailblazers such as Josh Homme and Jack White, mixed with the Texas-sized swagger of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Her guitar of choice? Emily is all about semi-hollowbodies, from her beloved Gibson ES-335 to her constant touring companion, the Epiphone Sheraton. The Epiphone Emily Wolfe “White Wolfe” Sheraton Stealth is her stunning spin on the latter. Decked out in a sumptuous gloss finish, it’s outfitted with a set of scorching-hot Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers and premium appointments, including a ’60s SlimTaper “C” profile neck, electrifying lightning bolt fingerboard inlays, and Trini Lopez-style diamond F-holes. Chock-full of attitude, the Emily Wolfe “White Wolfe” Sheraton Stealth is a hot-rodded mayhem-inducing instrument fit for the boldest guitar players!

Classic Sheraton shape with diamond F-holes

Crafted from layered maple, the Emily Wolfe Sheraton Stealth has a comfortable feel. It yields a natural bell-like sound, with notes springing to life and gently decaying into a sonorous sustain. A ’60s SlimTaper “C” profile neck invites you to explore the expanse of its Indian laurel fingerboard, whether you’re banging out country chords down low or climbing up to the higher frets for nimble lead work. The neck terminates in a ’60s Kalamazoo-style compact headstock, decorated with a mother-of-pearl tree of life inlay on the front and Emily’s yellow wolf icon stalking on the back.

Vintage-flavored alnico humbuckers with modern bite

When designing the Sheraton Stealth, Emily Wolfe and Epiphone scrutinized every detail, auditioning numerous pickup combinations to find just the right voice to amplify her signature blues-rock sonic brew. Eventually, they landed on Epiphone’s Alnico Classic PRO Buckers. Featuring Alnico V magnets, the Alnico Classic PRO Buckers lean vintage but exhibit a modern bite and healthy midrange punch. They especially excel at feeding dirt boxes and driving the front end of tube amps. Combined with premium CTS pots, including individual pickup volume controls and a single tone knob, this hellacious pair of Wolfe pickups guarantees a tone that can’t be tamed!

Premium lightly aged gold hardware package

The Emily Wolfe Sheraton Stealth rounds out its high-performance specs with a lightly aged gold hardware package, featuring Grover Rotomatic tuners, black top hat knobs with gold inserts, and a rock-solid LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and a LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece. Additionally, it’s equipped with a Graph Tech nut that puts the kibosh on string binding, ensuring a crisp sound and clean intonation — even when you’re chugging hard or performing howling bends.

Deceptively great guitar!

I've owned dozens of Gibson guitars and with Gibson you usually get what you pay for. I had modest expectations with this new Emily Wolfe model especially with the relatively low price point. Boy was I wrong! This guitar has exceptional build and tonal qualities. Plays as good or even better than a lot of other more expensive Gibsons. I expect for Epiphone to sell a lot of these. My suggestion would be to buy one before they are all gone.

Amazingly beautiful guitar, weakened by a flawed output jack

This guitar is gorgeous looking and sounding. Since it arrived, it's the only one I've wanted to play. It has such a great range of tone and it plays really well. It would absolutely deserve five stars. Except...

Only a month after I got it, when I unplugged the cable from the output jack, I saw the washer and nut hit the floor and watched as the output jack fell into the body. The ES-335/Sheraton bodies have no pick guard or back panel to make it easy to get to the controls. Getting it back into that hole is very difficult, especially with the gorgeous diamond f-holes because there is less "hole" to work with. After about an our of fiddling and fishing, I got it back in and the nut screwed on, just plugging in the cable and unplugging it again had the jack fall back into the guitar. The issue is that the output jack part that Epiphone uses has a shorter neck than other ones I have and the threading does not go all the way around the jack so there is less actual contact with the nut. So it takes very little twisting of the jack when it's getting plugged in or unplugged for the nut to pop off and, once it does, it is somewhat stripped and won't go on again. Due to the short neck, Epiphone also didn't add the inside washer that keeps the jack from twisting when you try to tighten the nut. And, finally, the nut and threading are not the same size as just about any other guitar I have so I couldn't just replace the nut. I had to replace the entire output jack to be able to use the guitar again. Trying to solder on a new output jack with less than an inch of wire coming out of the diamond hole and dreading that wire falling back into the guitar was not easy or pleasant. Fortunately, I had an extra jack with all the right bits handy and I was able to replace it. Since then, it has been great.

So if you buy this guitar, and I really, really recommend it in general, you should make sure you, or a guitar tech you trust, replaces the output jack as soon as possible. I don't know if Sweetwater would do this if you asked. I like to think they would.

Great guitar poor quality control

Sheraton #1
I was excited to receive the white Wolfe guitar, but upon inspection, I noticed some scratches on the headstock, discoloration at the cutaway, and a smudge near the diamond hole that wouldn't polish out. I contacted Sweetwater immediately , it took about 4 days and a reminder call to receive any resolution . A rep at Sweetwater told me that the manufacturer and Sweetwater would allow these blemishes, as they were within quality control tolerances and that a replacement would likely have similar issues. I was disappointed, and expecting higher quality in the finish especially given the higher price point for a Epi.

Sheraton #2 . My replacement White Wolfe Sheraton had a flawless finish, and plays great without a setup, but sadly the neck volume knob has a horrible crackle and the input jack fell into the body on day three. At this point I'm disappointed with Epiphone QC and sweetwaters 55 point inspection . Everything was checked off as passing inspection but I'm thinking this inspection never happened and I was assured it would have a second inspection to avoid any further disappointment . I know this is more of a Epiphone issue , however sweetwater has a bit of responsibility if they pride their operation on the 55 point inspections. It's a wonderful playing, looking and sounding guitar, unfortunately it left me frustrated.
