Capturing Sound? You Need the Soyuz Session Kit!

The Soyuz Session Kit arms you with everything you need to capture musical performances in all their sonic glory. And we mean everything! This meticulously crafted collection comprises a matched pair of 011 FET small diaphragm condenser mics, complemented by the acclaimed 1973 large-diaphragm FET condenser, forming the cornerstone for any serious recording setup. These handcrafted microphones come in an elegant wooden storage box with screw-in 10dB pads and mic clips for the 011 FET matched pair, and a mic holder for the 1973. An ideal addition to any studio mic locker, touring rig, or sound-reinforcement setup, the Soyuz Session Kit is an outstanding value that delivers premium sound quality at a budget-friendly price.

1973: classic LDC performance — for a song

1973 was a very good year for pro audio. Fortified with amazing-sounding handwired consoles and microphones, the Golden Age of Analog was underway, and it would produce some of the most iconic recordings ever made. The Soyuz 1973 large-diaphragm FET condenser mic captures the sonic magic of this era in an innovative transformerless design that serves up sumptuous results on any source. Featuring the same capsule as Soyuz’s acclaimed 023 Bomblet, the 1973 leverages modern design and manufacturing techniques while remaining faithful to its moniker with a classic, mid-forward European sound that makes vocals and instruments come to life. That’s a lot to live up to, but the Soyuz 1973 delivers.

Tracks that sit perfectly in the mix

Engineers at Sweetwater are well acquainted with a certain characteristic that great microphones have in common. Simply put, instruments and vocals recorded with them are easier to mix. They sit beautifully in the track without extensive processing to shoehorn them into an arrangement. (And they also tend to sound wonderful when soloed!) Harnessing the renowned sonic prowess of the first generation of FET (field-effect transistor) microphones, the Soyuz 1973 FET condenser enhances your recordings with this elusive quality without blowing a hole in your studio equipment budget. With its versatile fixed cardioid polar pattern, the 1973 FET is ideal for capturing just about any source; it’s a workhorse studio mic you’ll reach for session after session.

Soyuz 1973:

  • Large-diaphragm FET condenser microphone
  • Proprietary Soyuz S23 capsule
  • Fixed cardioid polar pattern
  • Capsule: 2 x 33mm membranes (one gold sputtered)
  • Frequency response: 30Hz–18kHz
  • Transformerless design
  • Hand-machined body and capsule
  • Custom-machined resonator minimizes undesirable resonance and plosives
  • Switchable 10/20dB pad
  • Sensitivity: 24.5 mV/Pa
  • Impedance: 150 ohms
  • Maximum SPL: 140dB
  • Equivalent noise: 18dB (A-weighted)
  • Power: 48V phantom
  • Includes mic holder

011 FET: value- and performance-packed SDC

Small-diaphragm FET condenser microphones are the secret weapons of top recording engineers. Their small capsules have lower mass than those of their large-diaphragm cousins and hence can move quicker. This nuance makes them more responsive to the sonic nuances of instruments that generate very fast transients, such as acoustic guitars, cymbals and percussion, pianos, and many more. Although tube-powered SDCs have been made, the solid-state variants have dominated the pro audio market since the 1960s. The field-effect transistor (FET) suits the diminutive form factor of the typical “pencil mic,” and its speed complements the SDC’s natural abilities to capture the minute details of a performance. Handcrafted with premium components and a cutting-edge transformerless circuit, the Soyuz 011 FET leverages all the advantages this time-tested technology has to offer in an affordable microphone that punches way above its price point.

Superior sound and durability for studio and stage

Designed to deliver a controlled low end, smooth midrange presence, and excellent high-end definition, the Soyuz 011 FET’s cardioid capsule features a 19mm gold-sputtered membrane and is hand machined to stringent tolerances in the Soyuz factory. Mating this unique capsule with a proprietary Soyuz transformerless circuit gives the 011 FET the ability to capture a wide range of sources with accuracy and deliver focused yet flattering tracks that punch through the mix. The 011 FET’s interchangeable capsules and wide dynamic range, further augmented by the included 10dB pad, enhance its versatility for both studio and high-decibel onstage applications. With its elegant hand-machined body, the Soyuz 011 FET is built tour-tough and is certainly robust enough to warrant inclusion in your mobile mic locker.

Soyuz 011 FET:

  • Small-diaphragm FET condenser microphone
  • Precision-matched stereo pair
  • Capsule: 19mm gold-sputtered membrane
  • Switchable capsules; cardioid capsule included
  • Optional hypercardioid and omni capsules available
  • Frequency response: 20Hz–20kHz
  • Screw-in 10dB pad included
  • Sensitivity: 19mV/Pa
  • Impedance: 150 ohms
  • Maximum SPL: 130dB
  • Equivalent noise: 16dB (a-weighted)
  • Power: 48V phantom
  • Screw-in 10dB pads and mic clips included

Soyuz: Eastern engineering, Western design

The Russian word “soyuz” means alliance, and it signifies the partnership that is the driving force behind Soyuz Microphones. In 2013, American vocalist David Arthur Brown and Russian entrepreneur Pavel Bazdyrev teamed up and launched a company to build world-class microphones in Russia — a country where less than 5% of small businesses last more than two years. Since then, thanks to their outstanding quality and sound, Soyuz microphones have gained a firm foothold in the industry and are being used by top engineers, producers, and artists. Sweetwater is delighted to bring you the innovative microphones of Soyuz.

What’s in your mic locker?

Among the most cherished assets of any world-class recording studio are its microphones. Take a peek in the mic locker, and you will almost certainly find vintage European tube and FET models made in the 1950s, ’60s, or ’70s. The “human-touch” manufacturing methods and discrete handwired circuitry of that era yielded microphones with sonic characteristics that are distinctly different from modern computer-assisted designs. Built using a blend of old-school handcraftmanship and state-of-the-art machining, Soyuz’s original tube and FET microphone designs — while not clones of vintage models — deliver the coveted sonic attributes associated with these classics, along with modern precision and reliability. It’s truly the best of both worlds. So, what’s in your mic locker? The answer will determine the sound of your recordings.

Reviews

A solid set of mics. I’ve been wowed.
Just picked up the set a few days ago and I'm loving it! It punches well beyond its price point. The 011's have a very true to life sound and zero harshness across the frequency spectrum. The 1973 fit my voice perfectly right out of the box with zero processing. A great tone and color. Super smooth and warm. I'll be holding onto these indefinitely.
