The King of Pedal Steel Amps

When pedal steel guitarists think of amplification for their rigs, Peavey’s Nashville and Session series of amp offerings immediately come to mind, and for good reason. The Nashville Session 112 represents a culmination of iconic tone that spans decades of Hawaiian, pop, and country music. Many of Sweetwater’s vintage Session and Nashville amp players favor the Nashville Session 112 for its equally impressive tone and lighter weight. This single-channel, dual-mode amp delivers 200 watts of power via a single 12-inch Celestion speaker, custom-voiced to accentuate the entire frequency range of pedal steel instruments. Moreover, an active EQ and buffered effects loop allow you to shape your tone with your favorite outboard effects, while the built-in Reverb adds additional space to your sound. Lastly, headphone and XLR outputs are available to practice silently or send a direct signal to a PA or mixing console. With a vast array of tone-shaping controls and its storied pedigree, the Peavey Nashville Session 112 is ready to help you carve out your part of history.

The two best pedal steel amps in a single enclosure

As its name implies, the Nashville Session 112 houses not one, but two legendary steel guitar circuits in a singular chassis. With a flick of the Nashville/Session switch, you get your choice of traditional, warm pedal steel tone from the Session 400’s earlier years or added punch and body that came from the Nashville series. Both circuits feature highly customizable EQ sections with era-matching midrange controls, putting you in control of your tone-shaping destiny. The Session circuit is true to form with its passive Midrange control to cut your unwanted mid frequencies. Flip over to the Nashville circuit, and the Midrange control offers more flexibility, including the option to boost or cut your mids. It all equates to a control set that puts you in the driver's seat for crafting your perfect singing tone to perfection.

Peavey's pedal steel legacy: a brief history

Back in the late 1960s, a challenge was made to Hartley Peavey by way of renowned pedal steel guitarist Julian Tharpe: design an amp that could accurately — and cleanly — handle the extended frequency range of steel guitars and withstand the rigors of touring. After several years of prototyping, a magic formula crystallized, and an industry standard was born. Debuting in 1974, the Session 400 and its equally mighty but lighter-weight sibling, the LTD 400, sent shockwaves through the country music circuit for their warm, expressive sound and exceptional power handling. As time progressed, more iterations of this classic amplifier emerged, such as the Vegas 400 and Nashville 400, as well as the 500 and 1000 series bearing the same names, each with expanded power capabilities and feature sets. To this day, the Session and Nashville series continue to reign as sought-after amps for their best-in-class sonic representation.
