Friedman-designed Classic Rock Tone

In both channels of the Synergy Amplification Friedman DS preamp module, you'll find an impressive range of British-style gain that takes you from JTM-style crunch to 800-style grind. And like its namesake Friedman Dirty Shirley all-tube amplifier head, the DS preamp module's touch sensitivity is second to none. Roll back your guitar's volume knob for chiming cleans, then crank it up for thick, cascading drive that never loses clarity. And Dave Friedman designed this preamp module for Synergy, ensuring you experience the tone and performance of his top-tier amp in the studio and the performance-friendly DS preamp module.

Synergy Amplification

Merriam-Webster defines synergy as "a mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants." With Synergy Amplification's combining of tube-amp talents that include Dave Friedman (Friedman), Joe Morgan (Morgan), Steven Fryette (Fryette and VHT), Mike Soldano (Soldano), and Peter Diezel (Diezel), the name is a perfect fit. Each product is painstakingly crafted by these titans of the tube-amp world, ensuring every nuance of their legendary amplifiers is translated to your tone. For the most iconic tones in the most convenient package possible, Sweetwater is proud to offer you Synergy Amplification.

Synergy Amplification Friedman DS Preamp Module Features:

perfect
This is one of my favorites it's like having a Marshall jtm and a plexi. It does every Marshall tone that I ever wanted.
Out of the six modules that I have so far the dirty Shirley and the Dr. Z wreck get the most use and are definitely my favorites!

THE BEST TONE EVER
Been in search of an amp that sounds close to a Demeter TGP-3 preamp for the past 10 years or so. After some research, I learned that Demeter (Deleo) sound is very much a mix of a modified JTM-45 and a Bassman. The Dirty Shirley does it! That fat bass response is loose like the Demeter, but sounds very aggressive at the same time. Every single note sounds hot with gain like molten lava. It's a very versatile and is my desert island amp. The EQ is VERY reactive. It's also a great pedal platform. Why not buy a Demeter? Because of the smaller size and flexibility of the Synergy system. What guitar player doesn't want to try all the big name amps at a decent price? This module is my desert island amp and the sound I've been searching for.

The Real Deal
The only Friedman amp that I like is the Dirty Shirley. The others are great amps but I don't like how I sound when I play them. The DS is the only one where I sound good. Forward to me using the Synergy System. This module is as advertised. Some say it's like a plexi...I think it has its own thing. It does low gain and edge of breakup really well. And in a pinch with a ts9 in front it rips. Very classic rock. I use it for blues, country and 70s classic rock. When I want more, the SLO is the one. Both were designed by the actual builders and they are both spot on.

Swwwweeeettt Tone
This is a very sweet module. Tons of usable gain with clarity. Not a Death Metal module but more for players appreciating a very detailed distortion. Does everything from a sweet blues overdrive to a very saturated 80's style Marshall drive.

I love using the bright switches. The tone doesn't get brittle or harsh, but very round and open with a bell like chime. Does the James Gang Funk 49 in spades.

The best part is how clean the tone gets when you roll off your guitars volume. Another bonus, the volume taper is very controllable and sound great even at very low volumes.
Dave Friedman is a Righteous Dude.
The key to this module for me ... Mid to low gain. Don't mistake me, this is set up to pummel. It's a Friedman design. (Met him at Gearfest ... babbled stupidly then tried his amps.) Twist the gains past twelve and its beautifully aggressive. But ... you will be missing something important.

I am coming off three years of playing direct to PA. I was sold on the concept when my PRS amp, which I loved, was impossible to really practice with. I tried direct via a Mesa Cab Clone and 2 hours later was sold on the ultra manageable and just plain better and less painful practice for all involved. I eventually fell into the Line 6 HD500X vortex ... which after 6 months of tweaking ... worked satisfactorily to cover 60 songs in a cover band. But, let's face it ... I missed tubes.

So long story short, discovered this product online by accident ... seemed to fulfill multiple requirements including several direct to board options. I am running this module with the SYN 1 through a Two Notes Torpedo Cab with the hope of getting Marshallesque breakups and singing lead tones.

I am very happy. The DS has an interesting blend of fat harmonics overlaid with a large glassy bite. In fact, the bright switches ... why? Seriously, you have to be working very hard to darken your tone enough to need those. Of course, to each their own. This module reminds me of Bluesbreakers I have heard, but again, this is a new beast to me. I found that cutting the bass down acts like a low rolloff, which was really cool. The bass remains present at low settings and doesn't seem to kill much mid, so don't feel you're losing any weight when you cut. It just helps clarify and balance the mids. This thing lives in mids. I am finding huge changes of character just by sweeping the mid control between 10 and 2:00. It all sounds great. Choices. The treble for me likes to be at about 2:00.(No bright switches). So ... if you keep the blue channel at just above breakup (I prefer that channel ... but Red is also tasty.) You can control how clean to crunchy with the volume knob ... then ... hit it with a drive pedal. Any drive pedal.

Works on the Red channel too. This thing is the best experience I have had with drive boxes. It absolutely sings. (Hint: that 'Sag' control ... keep it barely flashing on peaks before you hit with pedals.)

It goes from a Marshall-Style grindy-clean to a beautifully fat, but clear drive. The Red channel hit with the right box is an 80's love toy. AC-DC to Journey, kids. I realize that having gone direct for so long I have no street cred with some, but, those in my shoes looking for a way out of Digital Model Land or those looking for a better road through ... this gets my highest recommend. Your only problem is finding which module suits you. Good hunting.
