The SYN-50 features a cabinet-simulated output, MIDI programming, and effects loop., and effects loop.

Delivers 50 watts of all-tube power

Are you a traditional head-and-cabinet sort of guy, but want to benefit from the versatility of Synergy's modular preamp system? If that describes you, you'll love the SYN-50. Loaded with three 12AX7s in the preamp section and two 6L6s in the power section, the SYN-50 delivers 50 watts of pure tube tone. Two preamp module docks unlock four channels of boutique-quality tone. The SYN-50 packs enough power to push your module's sound through a 4 x 12" cab, while global Presence, Density, and Master Volume controls shape your amp's overall character. Add to that a transparent effects loop, and you've got a classic tube amp with modern flexibility.

4 x 12" cab sold separately.
Preamp modules sold separately.

Modular preamp system yields maximum tonal flexibility

Thanks to Synergy's modular preamp system, the SYN-50 is one of the most flexible amp heads on the planet — it can transform into anything you want. Give the T/DLX and Diezel VH4 modules a spin to go from California cleans to ferocious high-gain. Or pair Morgan AC and Friedman BE modules for different shades of British-style chime and crunch. With the SYN-50, these coveted tones can easily be yours. And swapping out modules is as easy as loosening a set of thumbscrews. The amp automatically adjusts its cathode biasing circuitry for you. You won't find many other 4-channel amp heads that are as versatile as the SYN-50.

Reviews

Fantastic tone!
After researching for over a year, I finally decided to order the SYN-50 and a couple modules. I really like the capability of swapping preamps and cost-savings vs. buying a bunch of different amps, but the real reason I bought it is because it's a 4-channel all-tube head with big names behind it for a very reasonable price. The amp sounds incredible, I started with the BE-BB and SLO modules. Just plugging in and turning it on, everything at noon sounded awesome already. I did have a bit of trouble with the MIDI footswitch, but that was my inexperience - I didn't realize the 7-pin MIDI cable has phantom power and doesn't need an external power supply (I had it hooked up to my power supply, and it wasn't working - an email to Friedman sorted that out). The master volume is the best I've used - it has a smooth taper from whisper quiet to bedroom volume to loud and louder, without that spot in the middle that goes straight from too quiet to super loud. I'm using this head with a Marshall 2x12 with Greenbacks and a Ward 2x12 with Mojotone BV30s, and it sounds phenomenal. Can't recommend it enough! Also, thanks to Mitch Dazey for sorting me out with this purchase and making sure everything went okay, what an awesome guy!

Exceeded Expectations
I'm a 51 year old musician who started playing electric guitar when I was 12. I had previously been classically trained from age 4. My first electric guitar was a Les Paul Jr that was given to me. My first amp was a Gorilla solid state death trap that started fire off and on and ended up finally getting smashed into bits during a gig.

I can honestly say that I've never played through an amp that was as immediately satisfying as the SYN-50. I paired it with the Synergy 4x12 cabinet, and it has lulled me into an orgasmic coma!

After fiddling with knobs from the pre-amp modules I purchased, I noticed something so strange that I had to contact Jacob Stutzman (my sales engineer) to confirm my observation. I was getting great tone and saturation while playing at lower volumes via the Master Volume.

Normally this would not cut it with every other tube amp I've ever played through. I was already researching attenuators for this head, but I was informed that these heads were designed to function well in this manner. Preamp gain to taste, and master volume wherever you like. Great tone across the range. Praise be Lemmy!

This head has re invigorated the pure enjoyment and elation that music creation has been affording me since early childhood. I should mention that I started with the SYN-1 and Vai module. I was able to sit that unit on the left side of the SYN-50, run a few more cables through the designated effects loop and to the 50 watt head, and now I have a six channel rig. I also still have an open effects loop on the SYN-50 for pedals because Synergy is run by space lords. I love it, and I bet you will too.

All I'm waiting for now is my IICP module, and I'm good for awhile. The photo is where I've left the knobs at for now in my recording studio, which is housed in a giant factory with lots of other tenants, artists, etc. No one is even aware that I'm in here jamming.

The Danelectro photo is for the microtonal nerds out there.
Fantastic In Every Way!
I Know the Syn20 IR seems to be getting all the love these days, but the Syn50 is superior in my opinion for several reasons:

1) 6L6 Power Tubes: I love the sound and depth of the larger power amp tubes that the Syn 50 has. The Syn20 IR has the smaller EL84 power tubes, which just don't have the same sound and feel as the larger 6L6 (or EL34) tubes.

2) You can fit 2 of the Synergy modules in the head at once, giving you way more flexibility, especially for gigging.

3) One additional 12AX7 for the preamp section (3 total), plus the 2 in each module (giving a total of 5 vs. 4 for the Syn20IR).

The IR outs on the Syn20IR are nice to have, but I have load boxes that allow me load my own IRs if I want, and the Structure switch on the Syn20IR seems to add some sound if you are going direct. These features are not enough to convince me to go with the Syn20IR, and I MUCH prefer the Syn50 for its sound and form factor.

This guy has a HUGE transformer, and has such a HUGE sound! I have compared several of the modules to the actual amps, and there is hardly any difference. To be honest, the differences are so slight, you would hear the same level of variation between different units of the same amp. There will always be some variation between amps, even of the same type.

This is not a watered-down version of an amp head, this is the REAL DEAL, and the sound is GLORIOUS. I have sold some of my real amps because the SYN50 sounded as good or better than my real amps! That was hard to admit at first, but after a couple of months, I realized that it was true. I stopped using the "real" versions of my Synergy modules. I have a high-end amp switcher setup, and when I A/B'ed the Syn50 with the actual amp it was trying to replicate, it was a no-brainer.

Do not hesitate on this guy. There is nothing better on the market in my opinion!
If youre looking at reviews youre wondering.. does this thing ROCK.. YES.
What stands out about the Synergy 4 Channel head. (Metalhead POV)

- Four channels with two different Amp flavors. Insanity. The tonal palette is just amazing.
- You can dial this thing up to 50 watts of fury or down to bedroom volumes with a superb voume dial. No Load box needed, no soundproof closet with mics.
- Is it a 100W head blasting out of a 4x12.. no. Is it close enough for horseshoes and handgrenades. Hell Yes.
- Running the Ubershall and the Slo II current, waiting for more crack.. I mean modules to arrrive.
- If youre a four cable junkie with a quad cortex, you know exactly how important the preamp stage is to the tone, this delivers, and instead of pulling cables pluggin in heads and all that jazz, you pop two thumbscrews and bam different amp onboard.. off to the races... pure tube goodness.

This thing is fantastic
I picked up one of these recently, put in the SLO and Friedman BE DLX modules and have not looked back since. I've had too many nice amps in my life to mention them all but currently I have on hand a Bad Cat Lynx, a Headfirst Alta 100, a PWE Event Horizon and a Marshall 6100LM. All of these amps are amazing (especially the Headfirst and PWE) but they have been collecting dust since I started using the Syn-50. There are so many modules to chose from and the old Randall and Egnater mods work in the Synergy as well. There are even a few companies that make there own by completely redesigning and modding the Randall modules. I have never owned an actual SLO or BE but if they sound this good I can understand why nearly everyone loves them.
