All-tube Rack Preamp for Dual Synergy Modules

When tonal quality, flexibility, and convenience are at the top of your priority list, it's hard to beat the Synergy Amplification SYN-2 Dual Module Tube Preamp. This single-space rack unit will house two Synergy preamp modules, allowing instant access to four customizable channels via Synergy's own footswitch or other MIDI switcher. And the SYN-2's Sag control, emulated line output, effects loop, and ability to add footswitchable channels to your guitar amplifier are all designed by some of the most lauded names in guitar amplification. You can rest assured, the Synergy SYN-2 is an easy-to-use affair with top-quality, all-tube tone.

All-tube guitar tracking solution

Synergy's SYN2 preamp unleashes the power of the two preamp modules of your choice and sends it directly to your DAW with the finesse of a perfectly recorded tube amp. To ensure your playing experience exactly mimics a cranked amp, SYN2 utilizes a Fryette-designed (of Fryette and VHT amps) Sag control which dials in how responsive the unit is to your playing. And if you prefer the sound of your own impulse responses, simply bypass the SYN2's cabinet emulation and send a direct tone to your tracks.

Expand your live rig

The rackmountable SYN2 preamp shines in the live arena as well. Around back, you'll find a bevy of I/O that allows you to insert the preamp into the series effects loop of your favorite amplifier. This opens up a world of switching options. First, you can plug straight into the SYN2 and bypass the amp's front end altogether. Or use the four-cable-method and you're able to add two footswitchable channels to your rig with ease. And the SYN2 even boasts its own transparent effects loop, so you're still able to get the most from your time-based effects when having the SYN2 in your amp's loop.

Multiple switching possibilities

Synergy built two convenient ways to control all of the tonal fire power onboard the SYN-2. The Synergy 5F 5-button foot controller (sold separately) is fully programmable. From the factory you can switch between the SYN2s four channels with an extra button for a bypass. And the SYN2 Dual Module Tube Preamp is fully MIDI-switchable with other hardware as well. In fact, by accepting both 5- and 7-pin connectors, there aren't many MIDI controllers out there that won't work flawlessly with your new SYN2.

Synergy Amplification

Merriam-Webster defines synergy as, "A mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants." With Synergy Amplification's combining of tube-amp talents that includes Dave Friedman (Friedman), Joe Morgan (Morgan), Steven Fryette (Fryette and VHT), Mike Soldano (Soldano), and Peter Diezel (Diezel), the name is a perfect fit. Each product is painstakingly crafted by these titans of the tube-amp world, ensuring every nuance of their legendary amplifiers is translated to your tone. For the most iconic tones in the most convenient package possible, Sweetwater is proud to offer you Synergy Amplification.

Reviews

The best of all worlds

I just got into Synergy and I absolutely love it.

I bought my 1971 Fender Twin in 1992 and have been a tube guy every since. I spent almost 7 years down the Fractal/Quad Cortex/FRFR rabbit hole and got so sick of it never getting there I sold it all (while I was touring with moe.) and got an endorsement with FUCHS and got a 100w tube head and 2x12 cab and never looked back.

BUT what's the options now? keep buying $ heads and lugging it all around? that's a lot, but then Synergy. I now have a 2rackunit with a Syn2 and Syn5050 pwr amp. All tube rig and two amps with 2 channels!! Its sounds incredible (I now have the Soldano II and T/Dlx as my two modules (also have the Vai and Friedman BBBE). I put a Hall of Fame reverb in the FX loop, I have to have 'verb.

AND the Direct out of the preamps mean, no poweramp (awesome no fans, and no tube wear) and its sounds the same as with a cab! Even my Fuchs and Two Notes Captor cant do that (there was always a change of sound somehow).

I use it now with my FUCHS 2x12 and Im getting a cab for my old Celestion Vintage 30s to see how they sound.

The past the future are now holding hands and I am here for it.

A case for Sweetwater Customer Service
Over the past several months, I have had two Synergy SYN-2 rack mount units, both of which had issues. The first was missing a rack mount ear and the second had a misaligned module bay flange which wouldn't allow one of the retaining thumb screws on the module to thread into the unit.

Fortunately, Sweetwater's technical support and return policy, resolved those issues at no additional expense. Had I chosen to purchase thru another supplier, it could have a very expensive process for me. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Sweetwater for their excellent support and in particular, I would like to thank Megan from technical support for her attention and persistence regarding the matter.

The SYN-2 is a great piece of hardware, provided you receive a good one. I can attest that there have been issues at Synergy with manufacturing and quality control. This issue has bolstered my opinion that purchasing from Sweetwater was a wise decision and confirms my belief that their customer support is second to none.
came back to Synergy rig....
After a long journey w various modeler units just trying to see if that was a future. I found the infinite option paralysis black hole of programming to be a dirge. I remembered how much I loved my Synergy rig and wanted to get back to that. Now with the advent of new modules and improved versions it turned out to be the bliss of playing again. Turn on the preamp, dial the knobs into a killer tone, and bang we're playing instead of programming for hours and hours. I don't think I ever tried to play one the modeler units without tweaking and adjusting something all the time. So glad to be back w Synergy again. Get yourself a box of 12AX7s and you're good to go although seldom do you need to replace them. I was more trying newer or different tubes. No bias adjustment or maintenance. Anyway, Synergy is the best thing to have happened to guitar in my eons of time as a player. Pick the right modules and you're off to the gig. Having hand picked pedals to round out the basics and it is without a doubt the best rig I have ever had or played through. The notion the entire package is small and portable should appeal to anyone who has carried a heavy tube amp. The notion you have (with my SYN50/50 pwr amp) no less than 5 12ax7s and 4 6V6 just like a heavy amp running at any given time at high voltage is just a wonderful thing.
My Rig!!
I started down the Synergy path a little over a year now and I only have one thing to say? IT"S AWESOME!! Tried lots of different modules and found my go-to with the SLO II. I have 3 Syn 2's based around Soldano, both Freyette's and the new Marshall JVM. Once they update the Marshall 800 to a 2203 mod with separate tone controls like the JVM.I literally wasted money on the Helix, GT-1000 and Quad cortex with the BOSS GT-1000 being the best performing all in one unit. I do still use the GT-1000 cores for all my effects and will use it as an all-in-one unit for my church gig. It's just easier transport, but recording?? Synergy is by far the best of the best for real tube tone made by the actual designer. and the list grows everyday!!

SynergyRocks!!
I started with a used Syn 2 and both Bogners. I know have 2 Syn 2's, the Bogners, the DRECT, the Powerball and now the SLO II. If you haven't tried Synergy out yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. I have it set up with the Uber for 2 lead tones, the DRECT and SLO II for chugging and the Ecstasy for clean and crunch tones. Couldn't be happier with my guitar tone!! (also use JP-15's so I have an acoustic only or blended with another tone for even more tone options!!
