A Metal Bassist’s Best Friend

Do you need a bass that can punch through the musical metal mayhem? Check out the axe that’s taking Sweetwater by storm: the Ibanez Iron Label SRMS625EX. It’s made with heavy music in mind and features a no-frills design for optimal performance. The comfortable okoume body provides you with a warm, solid tone. Two Bartolini BH2 pickups pump out a powerful low-end with punchy mids and balanced highs. Ibanez loaded the SRMS625EX with a purpose-built 3-band EQ so you can tweak your sound until it shakes the rafters. You’ll appreciate the improved string feel and intonation provided by the ultra-playable multi-scale frets. The Iron Label SRMS625EX includes an MR5 bridge for string-to-string isolation, a 5-piece maple/walnut neck, and blacked-out hardware. The Ibanez Iron Label SRMS625EX will help you bring the thunder every time you plug it in.

Multi-scale frets make for a better-feeling bass

If you’ve never played on multi-scale frets before, you’re missing out! The Ibanez Iron Label SRMS625EX has a multi-scale fingerboard with a 35.5-inch scale on the fifth string and a 34-inch scale for the first string. This configuration helps equalize tension across the strings and simultaneously improves intonation. What’s more, multi-scale fingerboards encourage proper hand positioning as you move up and down the neck. The über-comfortable multi-scale fingerboard is just another reason why players at Sweetwater like the Ibanez Iron Label SRMS625EX.

Bartolini BH2 pickups for a huge sound

Bartolini BH2 pickups maintain a superb balance between the Iron Label SRMS625EX’s clarity and depth. They provide complexity and warmth in the mids and low-end depth that won’t wash out. Long-blade pole pieces allow these dual-coil pickups to offer hum-free single-coil-style character and consistency. When you want to sculpt your SRMS625EX’s tone, just reach for the 3-band EQ. This active equalizer delivers wide frequency-range adjustments on each band. There’s also a 3-way midrange switch that lets you define your instrument’s presence. Whether you want round R&B throb or responsive thumb-technique punch, the SRMS625EX delivers.

Iron Label: the hardest-hitting basses

Ibanez developed the Iron Label series with one goal in mind — create the ultimate metal machines. The Iron Label design team took well-loved designs and stripped them down, and rebuilt them from the ground up, making player-focused adjustments and refining the sound along the way. Sweetwater can attest that Ibanez’s careful modifications and thoughtful tweaks have resulted in high-performance axes for hard-hitting music. If you’re looking for a bass guitar for metal, the Ibanez Iron Label series is the place to start.

Best Decision I’ve made!
After trying out my buddy, Matt's Ibanez SRFF805, I knew that I wanted my next five string bass to be a multiscale bass. I already own and Ibanez SR605e five string bass, so it was an easy decision that I wanted to buy the Ibanez Iron Label series SRMS625EX 5 string bass. I've had it for one day and thus far, I'm not disappointed at all! I purchased this used, so granted there are a few scuff marks, but nothing too major. I love the Bartolini Pickups as well as the three-way treble frequency switch, alongside the passive/active switch! Later this week or next week, I will be installing heavier strings so I could have this set up to drop F.
Music background: I’ve been playing electric guitar for 20 years. As of May 2026 of this year, it will be 18 years playing bass guitar. I mostly play pop punk, metal/hardcore, Christian/gospel
Close to perfection
If I didn't know better, I'd think they designed this bass specifically for me, and I didn't even know I wanted a multi-scale (which I'm now surprised isn't more popular, if not the norm). It not only looks cool, but does noticeably improve clarity & sustain, especially in the lower register. My favorite feature, however, is the passive/active switch -- something every active bass should have.

The fit & finish looks & feels premium all around. Weight is perfectly balanced and there's a lovely soft & silky texture to everything, which is hard to stop touching (however, seems prone to nicks & scratches). Tuners are smooth and stable; the bridge is solid (and also looks cool). My local tech was able to dial in possibly the lowest action I've ever seen on a bass, which is a testament to the precision in the build quality. To my ears, it sounds as good as the best, and easy to dial in a perfect tone for any style.

Price, while not at all unreasonable, may put it out of reach for some, but I say wait & save up if you really want this one. It is absolutely worth every penny!

Amazing, for any genre!
Absolutely incredible bass. I wasn't too keen on the blacked out look at first, but as someone who lives in a dry environment the ebonol fretboard really drew me in. The "panga panga" and macassar ebony Ibanez uses for most other basses tends to crack in my home, which is why I sought after a phenolic(artificial) fretboard... And WOW was I ever impressed! The ebonol board gives a nice crisp response with plenty of zing that outperforms ebony in my humble opinion. No more oiling or cracks!

Moving along, The rest of this bass is fantastic: Low action, good weight, and feels very solidly built. If I could complain, I'm not big on the "Bartolini" (Ibanez stock pickups) this bad boy rocks, but those can be swapped out easily enough. And I do think some Luminlay side dots would've looked sweet on this black beauty, but it's a killer bass nonetheless.

Bought it for metal, but found myself picking it up for any genre, long after the honeymoon phase!
Exactly what I was looking for.
I've been playing this bass for a few weeks now, and it is exactly as advertised. I tend to lean toward metal and heavier rock and it is perfect for it. It's got great boomy low end with tight punchy mids and bright crisp highs, the mid range selector switch is also amazing for really dialing in the tone I'm after. The bass is light and the very playable the neck is smooth and so easy to adapt to, this is my first multi scale bass and I love it. All in all easily my favorite bass amongst my collection and a great addition for sure. I highly recommend this bass.
Love it.
Excellent instrument. Barts are nice and punchy. Extremely comfortable to play. Will definitely be getting more Ibanez basses in the future.
