Premium Craftsmanship Meets Roaring Sonic Potential

When unrivaled aesthetics, immense tone, and multidimensional craftsmanship collide, you know you're in the right place. The Ibanez Premium SR2605 bass guitar proves that striking visuals and time-tested lows are for everyone. Start with a mahogany body, topped with gloriously figured poplar burl. Then add a fast 15-piece neck, decked out with a smooth panga panga fingerboard embellished with elegant abalone oval inlays. This attention-commanding, ear-grabbing bass even features KTS titanium rods to reinforce the neck's polychromic assembly. Still, the SR2605’s first priority is tone, and that’s just what the two Nordstrand Big Single pickups deliver: robust, punchy, impeccably balanced tone. And with the 3-band EQ, you’ll have more than enough sound-shaping power to hit the stage or studio with any style. Sweetwater’s advice is this: When you’re ready to step up your bass game, the Ibanez Premium SR2605 is the no-holds-barred baron of low-end thunder that effortlessly marries style, substance, playability, and power. Like we said, you're in the right place!

Massive, aggressive tone from Nordstrand pickups

With a “super-packed” coil, the Big Single is considered by Nordstrand to be the “tonal giant” of their pickup offerings. Ibanez spec’d a pair of these aggressive-sounding single-coil monsters for the Premium SR2605. In addition, you have the powerful sound-shaping capabilities of Ibanez’s Custom 3-band EQ, which gives you control over boost/cut for bass, mid, and high frequencies, a mid-frequency switch to fine-tune your midrange, and an EQ bypass. No matter what tonal texture your music calls for, this instrument’s superb electronics will get you there fast. Fingers, thumb, or pick — the SR2605’s electronics have you covered.

Custom neck joint for enhanced sustain and playability

There’s a reason for the enduring popularity of basses with bolt-on necks — they sound punchy and quite different from neck-through and set-neck designs. Pick up an Ibanez Premium SR2605, and you’ll experience everything bolt-on construction has to offer. Ibanez has taken the classic design to the next level with their asymmetrical 4-bolt neck joint, which not only provides more contact between neck and body for greater stability, vibrational transfer, and sustain, but it also gives you a smooth, tapered neck heel for unrestricted high-register access.

Mono-rail bridge enhances definition and sustain

Ibanez specified their excellent Mono-rail 5 bridge for the Premium SR2605. Unlike single-body bridges, each Mono-rail saddle is completely separate from the others. This does two things for you. First, since they aren’t connected, the saddles create minimal sympathetic vibration. This prevents unused strings from ringing. Second, each saddle is double-anchored, allowing energy to transfer efficiently between the string and the body. As a result, bassists here at Sweetwater are raving about the SR2605’s astonishing clarity and sustain.

Ibanez: a legacy of quality and innovation

Ibanez’s obsessive attention to detail has made the company a global guitar and bass powerhouse, but it didn’t happen overnight. Ibanez began its life in 1908 as the Hoshino Gakki company in Nagoya, Japan. However, the company didn’t get into the guitar business until 1929, when it started importing Salvador Ibanez guitars from Spain. In 1935, Hoshino Gakki began building Spanish acoustic guitars under the “Ibanez Salvador” name, which was later shortened to Ibanez. Although Ibanez started manufacturing electric guitars in 1957, the company was relatively unknown in the West until the 1960s, when it started producing guitars based on American designs. By the late 1970s, Ibanez began manufacturing the innovative, original guitar and bass designs that the company is now known for. The company is also famous for its effect pedals, most notably the Tube Screamer. Sweetwater is proud to offer you such a fine line of distinguished musical instruments.

Reviews

A bass tone machine
Very cool features. Fits, plays and sounds like a dream! I put it up against some high end Spector when I was deciding what to purchase and ended up buying my SR2605. After some time playing her I'd make the same decision.
A true monster of a bass
There is so much positive to say. Build quality, pickups, balance, playability and relatively light weight are all superb. It's an expensive bass but it easily compares to the yet more expensive masterbuilt or custom shop stuff that only a happy few can afford.

Only point of critique maybe is that the two switches (mid eq switch and active/passive switch) are tiny and black which makes them slightly hard to hit or avoid hitting. The pots have a bit cheap-feeling black plastic knobs and I feel tempted to upgrade them to gold knobs to match the other hardware.

Pro tip, speaking of gold: I used gold strings, see pictures. The instrument is already gorgeous as is, but this makes it so ridiculously pretty you'll earn jealous looks from everyone.
In addition, investing in high quality strings (gold or not is a matter of taste) really brings out the amazing sonic powers of this bass. Just listen to this beast (I added a video link to this review which features this bass)!

The combination of tone woods, pickups, bridge design, active electronics etc. give the instrument a great tonal variety but also a lot of character. There is something like a Warwick-like growl that will punch you in the guts. I have attempted to accompany mellow folksy tunes, and you can do that using passive mode and rolling off the tone, for example. But really, this thing is meant to be used in a loud and hard rock context, the more extreme the better. It wants to scream, so let it.

Awesome Tone
I am still learning so much every day. This bass has been an excellent help with the great tone and the smooth playing. It is a little on the heavy side but the finish is well worth it.

Ibanez 2605
Best bass i ever owned, action is awesome, pickups are super clean an punchy recorded our whole cd srraight to the board an sounded freakin awesome. Cant say enough good things about this bass.

Took the dive
I was very skeptical when purchasing a bass on-line because I have played a lot of expensive basses that well frankly did not play well. Living in Maine there are not a lot of music stores that carry high end gear so selecting a bass became a nightmare. While i was looking at this ibanez bass on your website my wife told me it's beautiful get that one! So knowing that's all I was also able to determine when looking on-line I ordered. Being so nervous but not biting nails as I would need them when the bass comes I stared at the picture alot. Behold when this bass arrived it was soo beautiful the picture did no justice for this sound machine. Plays a ten looks a ten and sounds an eleven!Thank You SWEETWATER! I CANT STOP PLAYING THIS BASS!
