Natural. Acoustic. Tone.

The Blackstar Sonnet 120 has one primary purpose: to deliver natural-sounding acoustic guitar amplification. And it succeeds brilliantly, retaining every ounce of your instrument’s tone, while revealing the unique nuances of your playing. This top-shelf acoustic combo is particularly adept at capturing percussive accents, tapped harmonics, and other unconventional playing techniques. Ideal for solo performers, the Sonnet 120 incorporates separate microphone and instrument inputs, along with a line input and Bluetooth. Player-friendly tone-shaping, including perfectly tailored 3-band EQs, an acoustic-optimized highpass filter, and an unobtrusive, yet highly effective anti-feedback system are also at your disposal. You also get four onboard reverbs, which add the perfect amount of studio-quality sheen to your performance. Dual effects loops, USB and XLR D.I. outputs and an adjustable tilt-back stand round out the Sonnet 120’s robust feature set. Powerful, light, and compact, the Sonnet 120 is pro quality all the way.

Transparent amplification retains your instrument’s tone

The guitarists here at Sweetwater have a strong disdain — as do most acoustic players — for amplifiers that alter the sound of our instruments. After all, we install high-end piezo systems in our guitars to capture their natural tone. Why would we want to change it? Blackstar understands this. That’s why they designed the Sonnet 120 to be as transparent as possible. It faithfully amplifies the natural response of your acoustic instrument — it’s just louder. If you’re picky about your acoustic guitar tone, the Sonnet 120 is the perfect acoustic guitar combo amplifier for you. Just ask Jon Gomm — he relies on the Sonnet to capture his unorthodox arsenal of modern, neo-Michael Hedges playing techniques, and it definitely delivers the goods.

Player-friendly tone-shaping makes dialing in your sound easy

The Blackstar Sonnet 120 makes dialing in your tone easy. Of course, its transparent sound gives you a great starting point. But beyond that, fine-tuned 3-band EQs enable you to tailor the amp to your venue with a minimum of effort, while Shape buttons toggle between a flat response and one with a mid-cut and high/low boost. An optimized highpass filter enhances your instrument’s acoustic resonance, while a Brilliance control injects your piezo with the perfect amount of high-end sparkle. An effective anti-feedback system quashes unwanted squeals while staying out of your way sonically. You also get four built-in reverbs (Hall, Studio, Chamber, and Plate) to add the final bit of polish to your performance.

Robust feature set is perfect for solo performers

If you’re a solo performer, you’ll value the Sonnet 120’s real-world features. Dual inputs — each with their own separate set of controls — accommodate both your instrument and your microphone. If you use a condenser mic, you’ll appreciate the onboard +48V phantom power, while pad and polarity reverse functions ensure maximum sound quality in any situation or environment. The Sonnet 120’s flexible outputs enable easy USB recording and XLR DI-ing to front of house. Built-in Bluetooth connectivity makes streaming backing tracks from your smartphone a breeze (there’s also a line input if you’re going old school). You also get dual effects loops for effortless pedalboard integration, and footswitchable reverb and amp mute. The Sonnet 120’s handy tilt-back stand is icing on the cake.

What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Great amp, great price

I'd been looking for an acoustic amp for a long time; one that would sound like my guitar but louder. The go to of the Fishman amps just didn't work for me - the sound just didn't sound like my guitar and they are expensive, and their phantom power for mics is 24v, not 48v, so if you're using a condenser mic that needs 48v, look elsewhere.

I looked elsewhere and stumbled on the Blackstar sonnet series. Having watched some of the YouTube videos of Jon Gomm explaining how he worked with Blackstar to make the amp sound the way it did & the role of the high pass filter in the sound of the amp, I was sold - without ever hearing it in person. I wasn't disappointed!

I bought the 120 as I liked the features it had & the price wasn't that much more than the 60. The sound it makes is substantial! The cabinet is solid, but not too heavy. The precise adjustments to the sound are great to tailor the amp to the room space.

I'm so pleased I bought this over the Fishman. I got so much more for my $ and it sounds so much better!

Great Value

My wife and I bought this amp from Sweetwater to play worship music at home or at local coffee shops. I believe this to be the best value in its segment. I run a Gibson J15 and a Shure SM58 through it. The feedback reduction knob on each channel allows us to place the amp anywhere relative to our location with zero risk of feedback. It is pretty amazing, actually. The reverb options are natural sounding and allow us to apply different levels to the mic or guitar. The Bluetooth options is what really sold us. It allows us to play backing tracks or pads (I know...I know...pads?).
The vocal reproduction is flawless. I am not 100% happy with the tones from Gibson's LR Baggs Element system. I may start looking for an acoustic preamp pedal. It's not terrible. It may be due to the budget Baggs system rather than the amp itself. Even with that, it is the best amp I could find in this price point. It's several hundred less than comparable amps from Roland and others.
In summation, I would certainly buy this Sonnet 120 again. It does its job and does it quite well.
Music background: Enjoy strumming at home and church

Blackstar sonnet 120 (Black)

Blackstar nocked this one out of the park. This acoustic amp is crazy good everything I wanted in an acoustic amp and a whole lot more.

Excellent Design!

A Well Thought Out design amp. Balanced tone with subwoofer frequencies in a compact design and a very reasonable price! Phantom power is 48V also, not 24V. Will use it at small cafe venues! A keeper!

Best Acoustic Amp.....EVER

I have actually owned every Fishman acoustic amp from the Loud Box Mini, the Artist and the Performer over the last 2+ years trying to find a sound that I like. This little Sonnet 120 sounds better than any of them and the vocal sound is the best I've heard from a small combo amp. I also love the built-in tilt and/or the option of using a stand. If you are in the market for an acoustic combo amp...DO NOT overlook trying this Blackstar Sonnet 120 amp. It is a hidden gem. Also, the current sale price at Sweetwater is unbeatable. The team at Sweetwater steered me right.
Music background: 40+ years in a band or as a single performer.
