I bought these for my les Paul standard because the les Paul I put them in didn't hold up sonically to my sunburst. I wanted something different because my go to pickup from Seymour Duncan is the JB. I have a JB in my Jackson Dinky, I have a phat cat in my les Paul Junior, YJM fury's in my Yngwie Strat, and a set of pearly gates in my hollowbody. So needless to say I love my Duncan's. But these pickups brought my les Paul back to life. It screams! These pickups are very very articulate! You can really hear the pick attack. The Alnico 4 magnets really make a difference it actually feels and sounds hotter than they are! When it says on the package 70s hard rock and arena rock pickups, they aren't kidding! These babies have a PAF vibe but are hotter but have the top end of a ceramic magnet pickup (Duncan Custom/DiMarzio Super Distortion) but it's not shrill it's smooth. The bridge pickup chunks for days! It reminds me of John Sykes tone because the harmonics jump put effortlessly! Also they are very open sounding and tight in the low end. They don't get muddy with a lot of distortion either. The neck pickup is like velvet! It's smooth and airy but not wooly like a traditional PAF. These pickups also clean up very very well and are very sensitive to touch and dynamics. They really bloom like a PAF! But way more attitude! The upper harmonic content is amazing! I highly recommend these! If you like guitar tones from players such as Ace Frehley, John Sykes, Gary Rossington, Rickey Medlocke, Ted Nugent, Gary Moore, these pickups get that tone no problem! Love em!

These pickups rock! I installed them in a PRS SC250 because the original pickups were just too hot and muddy sounding for what I am playing. After the install I hooked up the guitar and played some riffs from 38 Special, Kansas, Skynyrd and others.. the sound was spot on and held true to the description on this site. You could easily use this pickup set to cover sounds from 70's bands up thru 3Doors Down and more with no problem. They have a very pleasant midrange bump that pushes the guitar forward and in the middle position of a LP style guitar they produce a quack very similar to the Peter Green pups. The neck pickup is probably the most useable neck pup I've ever had and they clean up very nicely when you roll the volume down. I'm very happy with this purchase!

The marketing for these is very accurate. Classic tones, just a little hotter than they actually were. Similar to the Pearly Gates, but less notched/nasal and therefore more versatile. The bridge pickup is probably the coolest I've ever heard, and the neck is balanced just enough towards more articulation than normal PAFs.

Upgraded pickups in my les Paul studio and it absolutely transformed the tone. I almost want to put these pickups in all of my guitars now!

Put these in a new PRS Tremonti SE (stock pups a little too hot for me) and they sound perfect! A little hotter than the Pearly Gates in my SG and slightly less bright... the eq and output are perfect and the harmonics, clarity and articulation are just right.. great tone. Very happy with these pickups and the always great service from Patrick and Sweetwater!
