Part Wireless Transmitter, Part Recorder
The Lectrosonics SMDWB is a lightweight wireless transmitter solution for film, TV, and any application where discreet transmitter placement is a necessity. This wideband beltpack transmitter has selectable output power to meet the needs of any RF environment. Membrane switches and water-resistant seals make the Lectrosonics SMDWB a must-have for environments where you may encounter water. For situations where RF transmission is problematic, the SMDWB can act as a standalone recorder and capture pristine studio-quality sound on a microSDHC card. Best of all, with the optional LectroRM app for iOS and Android, you can deliver commands to the transmitter wirelessly, which comes in handy when it’s hidden inside costumes. If you need a transmitter that’s useful in a variety of situations, the Lectrosonics SMDWB won’t disappoint.
Use it as a wireless transmitter
By design, the Lectrosonics SMDWB shines as a wireless transmitter. The input selection features servo bias circuitry at the bias input with a standard TA5M jack. It’s great for lavalier mics, dynamic mics, or other line-level signals. The SMDWB is loaded with a DSP-controlled limiter to reduce the chance of overloading the signal. It has an adjustable power output level control to handle whatever range needs arise during a shoot. There’s also a 44dB adjustable gain range with an optional 3dB low-frequency roll-off at one of six selectable frequencies.
Use its onboard recording function
More than an excellent wireless transmitter, the SMDWB can also function as a standalone recorder. With a microSDHC card, the Lectrosonics SMDWB will record studio-quality 24-bit, 44.1kHz uncompressed audio. With a single 8GB card, you can capture up to 11 hours and 12 minutes of audio. Lectrosonics recommends you only use microSDHC cards. Using other card types may result in lost recordings due to incompatible bus structure.
Note: Transmitting and recording functions cannot be used at the same time. Only one mode can be active at a time.
Hands-free setup and adjustment
The LectroRM app for iOS and Android smartphones gives the SMDWB a leg up on the competition. Using the app, you can change select settings on the transmitter with a tone from your phone. Yes, you read that correctly — from your phone. At Sweetwater, we found the Sleep mode to be useful for conserving battery levels when the transmitter is buried deep under a costume or under multiple layers of clothing. Other adjustable parameters include input gain, frequency, RF output power, and low-frequency roll-off. With the expanded functionality provided by the LectroRM app, there’s really nothing you can’t do with the SMDWB.
