The Darker Side of the SLS Elite

The SLS Evil Twin-5 is your chance to explore the darker side of Schecter's SLS Elite bass series. Specs are virtually identical between these two great axes, save for the Evil Twin's 100% swamp ash body. What sets it apart are a killer black-on-black satin finish, sinister roman numeral fingerboard inlays, and glow-in-the-dark side fret markers for easy ID'ing on dark stages. Naturally, the Evil Twin slays for rock and metal. But with its Fishman Fluence active soapbar pickups with 3-way voicing switch, push-pull coil splitting, and 2-band active EQ, this bass will surprise you with its pop sensibilities and funk and soul potential. Schecter's neck-through sculpted body and string-through bridge maximize resonance and sustain. Meanwhile, a permanently lubricated TUSQ XL nut, a set of studio-stable Grover tuners, and a dual-action truss rod with easy-access neck heel wheel make the Schecter SLS Evil Twin-5 from Sweetwater a bass that wants for nothing in terms of customization.

Sculpted swamp ash body

The SLS Evil Twin-5's sculpted swamp ash body is equal parts form and fashion, comfortably hugging the player's body when seated or standing and providing unparalleled access to higher frets. A satin black finish gives this bass a menacing stage presence indeed.

3-piece neck with XJ steel frets

Built for a lifetime of use and abuse, the Schecter SLS Evil Twin-5 features a 3-piece neck of maple, walnut, and padauk to resist warping and action creep over time. Its articulate ebony fingerboard comes fitted with 24 effortless Extra-jumbo stainless steel frets that are spec'd for tour-grade resiliency.

Active Fishman Fluence pickups

The Fluence active pickups have been a real game changer in terms of tone, output, noise, and clarity. The SLS Evil Twin-5's Fluence active soapbars feature both a 3-way voicing switch (class, funk, and modern) and push-pull coil splitting to stand up to virtually any style of music. Factor in a 2-band active EQ section (bass and treble) and a dedicated pickup blend knob, and the SLS Evil Twin-5 may replace many or all other basses in your arsenal.

Schecter SLS Evil Twin-5 Bass Guitar Features:

  • The darker side of the SLS Elite bass series
  • Ivory-bound 100% swamp ash body sports a menacing satin black finish
  • Roman numeral fingerboard inlays
  • Glow-in-the-dark side fret markers
  • 9-volt active Fishman Fluence soapbar pickups provide 3 distinct voices: classic, funk, and modern
  • Push-pull coil splitting, active 2-band EQ, and pickup blend control equip this bass for any style
  • Liquid sculpture neck-through design is comfortably contoured and sustains for days
  • Strong 3-piece maple/walnut/padauk neck with articulate ebony fingerboard
  • Extra-jumbo stainless steel frets are spec'd for a lifetime of use and abuse
  • Permanently lubricated, Teflon-impregnated TUSQ XL nut eliminates string stickage
  • Dual-action truss rod with convenient neck heel access wheel
  • Grover tuners are studio precise and stage stable

Super awesome tone

This bass is absolutely amazing sounding with the Fishman pick-ups. I play through a Darkglass amp and cab and it sound crushingly Progressive Metal!

Fantastic Guitar

Straight out of the box plays absolutely phenomenal. Upgraded from the Omen Elite and what an upgrade it is. The different sounds that this can make are amazing. Plus, it is a sexy looking beast. You won't be disappointed in this guitar.
My only complaint is I noticed a buzz when I plugged my wireless in. After contacting Sweetwater, they got a hold of Schecter an different was told that my 2.5ghz wireless was interfering with the active preamp. So I have to either get a new wireless system or put an extender on mine. I think Schecter should note this on the guitar, just so the buyer is aware of the potential issue. It wouldn't have strayed me from buying it, but just nice to know beforehand and save having to make phone calls.
James Holk at Sweetwater did a fantastic job getting me setup with the purchase of this bass and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Sweetwater is awesome.

Man this thing is great

A guitar of any kind of personal preference, and I think this one looks and feels amazing. It's solid and the wood and finish is beautiful. Holds its tuning no problems. Sounds heavy and mean as hell if you want it to, and groovy and bouncy just as easily with its great controls. Only thing to note is it eats batteries like a beast if you forget to unplug it, so just be mindful of that.

The Masterpiece of Shecter and Fishman

I could write forever about how good this bass is, but for the interest of time I'll keep this review efficient, brief, and concise (as much as possible :) . For the price tag this bass delivers far and beyond! You're not shelling thousands of dollars on a name brand. Second the combination of Swamp Ash for the body and Maple/Walnut/Paduk for the neck make this bass studio quality and tour ready. I took it out of the box and it feels like a feather in weight! Third, Fishman Fluence Modern Bass Humbucker pickups absolutely crush all other pickups. I've played pickups such as company designed ones, Bartolini Mk1, EMG 40HZ, Seymour Duncan Blackouts, and these Fishman Fluence Modern Humbuckers surpass them all in sustain, tone, response, and versatility. Won't need to chasing that 'golden' tone anytime soon! Lastly, The setup on this bass was done superbly well. I had this bass Plekd inhouse at Sweetwater and it was ready to play out of the box. Overall, want to thank my Sweetwater Sales Engineer Corey for giving me the most pristine Customer Service! Sweetwater takes care of everything and that's why they have the best Customer Service when it comes to instruments.

P.S. If your style of bass playing is slap/pop this bass will be more challenging than others. After playing this bass three hours straight it can deliver on the fingerstyle and pick style, but not so much slap/pop. I'm mainly a fingerstyle player and occasional pick player so this bass works really well for me. Aside from that expect this bass to serve in any capacity from Rock/Metal to even Contemporary Worship. And those Roman Numeral Fret Numbers combined with the Satin Black Finish give this bass that menacing look to fight the crowd. Could even serve as defensive tool just in case things get out of hand. Haha.

Amazing Instrument

I picked up my first Schecter bass off Sweetwater a few years back. It is a Stiletto Stage 5 in glossy black. Once I got my hands on it I immediately fell in love with it, and gained a deep appreciation for the quality of Schecter instruments. Still have it.

Last year (late 2020) I ordered the SLS 5 Evil Twin after watching some videos on it and admiring it online for a few weeks. It seemed like everything I loved about the Stiletto Stage 5, but with a few features I wanted (truss rod adjustment where the body meets the neck, battery cover that didn't need screws, minor things) and better pickups. I was really impressed by the videos I saw online demonstrating the range the instrument can produce with the Fishman Fluence pickups. I splurged, and had the cavities shielded and frets pleked (plec'd?, plek'd?) at Sweetwater (not sure but I think the process left a few water spots on the fret board? Not a big deal).

Once it arrived and I plugged it in (I play a 2x Hartke Hydrive HD 410s with an LH1000 head) and was absolutely blown away with how great it sounds. There is also an amazing variety of sounds you can get out of the instrument by adjusting the pickup balance and eq. There is also a pull on the volume knob to switch the pickups to split-coil mode. My band compliments the tones I get with it frequently.

The instrument looks great as well, especially when the light hits it and really shows off the contours on the body. I love the satin finish on the body and headstock.

The only things I would change about the instrument would be to add a better contour where your fretting wrist rests over the top of the body as it is a strong angle and digs in a bit when I play sitting down (the Stiletto Stage 5 has a great contour in this location), change the volume pull to a switch for split-coil mode (matter of preference really), and add a satin finish to the back of the neck like the Stiletto Stage 5 has. These are minor issues or preferences that do not take away from all the amazingness that is the Schecter SLS-5 Evil Twin. This instrument does not disappoint.
