Seymour Duncan Pickups - It's all about the tone!

The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup was originally conceived to conjure tones similar to the pickups found in the venerable 1959 Les Paul Standard (the guitar that set the standard for blues guitar tone). And chock-full of tone it is! Described as "sweet but slightly rude," the SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup makes your amp come alive with the perfect blend of sustain and harmonics, not to mention a nice, bright top end. A versatile pickup, the SH-PG Pearly Gates can be paired with virtually any humbucker for a variety of tonal options.

Sound

The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup has a tone that can be characterized as warm, with a slightly hotter-than-vintage humbucker output. You've heard the SH-PG on everything from blues to classic and southern rock to modern rock, its versatility is the key to its success. Originally designed as a re-creation of the pickups in the '59 Les Paul Standard, the SH-PG mimics the tone that defined the raw, rebellious sound of Texas blues-rock. The Pearly Gates pickup is sweet but slightly rude, with great sustain and a bright top end that makes harmonics jump out of the guitar. It comes with a 4-conductor hookup cable to facilitate a variety of pickup-switching options.

Complete setup

The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup is often used in both neck and bridge positions and can be used in the bridge with an APH-1 Alnico II Pro in the neck for smoother tones. A Pearly Gates pickup in the neck with a SH-11 Custom works well for heavier rock sounds from the bridge position. The SH-PG Pearly Gates pickup is great for brighter-toned instruments and works especially well with maple and ebony fingerboards. They also work great with hollow and semi-hollowbody guitars.

Reviews

Great pickup!
I got this pickup to make my client's Epiphone Les Paul Custom a 3 pickup Les Paul Custom. The guitar already had a set of Pearly Gates in it so I went with another one for the new middle pickup. It turned out great and my client was pleased so my job is done here.

Sounds Incredible!!!
I finally got to hear these in my custom built ES-175 tonight and was blown away! I can't recommend these pickups enough!!

Incredibly responsive, versatile tone. Everything I'd hoped for in improving my guitar's voice.

Awesome guitar upgrade
I have a Hohner "Law Suit" Les Paul copy from the late 70s. The guitar was awesome in every way except that the PAF pickups were too blended, muddy sounding. They did not have the note definition of my other guitars. I upgraded to a pair of Pearly Gates. The difference is like night and day. It always looked and played like a $5,000 guitar. Now it also sounds like one. Great return on investment for a purchase of a little north of 200 bucks (for a bridge-neck pair).

I held off wiring up the coil split until I find a decent, 2 volume / 2 tone pot, wiring diagram. They are not easy to find for some reason. It sounds so good now, I am not sure I want to mess with it.

Pearly Gastes=Heavenly Sound!
Wife bought me a frost gold Squier J5 Tele for my 50th birthday (50=gold). Dropped a set of gold SD Pearly Gates in it. It was nice before, but now....just wow....love the neck PU. Crystal clear and sweet and the bridge has tons of attitude. The SD Pearly Gates turned a really nice guitar into one best I own. Don't let the Squier name fool you. Review the J5 your self. Then order one from Sweetwater along with some SD Pearly Gates. You will have to shave a couple thou off the neck cut out on the pick guard for the covers to fit. No big deal though.

Sweetwater - shipped my order the very day I placed the order and I received it 2 days later. Can't beat it! SWEET!,,,,,WATER!
